No, it wouldn't change my mind on anything that I had to say to anyone. But if you will look around the other boards, you will see how it can be disruptive. RS just posted how 10 of 19 threads were being moderated. There are currently anywhere from 3-5 socks that are posting on every board, over and over and over. And posting nonsense, like LP linked to you.
Put them on ignore so I don't have to see their nonsense? Tried that. End up going into a thread where there are entire pages hidden because of the number of sock posts. What's the point of even trying to have a conversation?
And if they are on ignore, but other people are responding to them, and you are still trying to follow the legit posts, you end up getting all confused because of how the hidden posts are referred to in the legit posts and you can't follow the conversation.
Or the socks are going in and intentionally provoking people, and they try to derail every thread by riling everyone up. And people are going to respond to that, even if you don't. Kills the conversation.
Not to mention the posts where the socks have threatened to out and/or harm other posters. These people are not right in the head. No telling what idiotic thing they are likely to actually do.
If socks were not such a problem for forums, there wouldn't be prohibitions against them in most forums. But they are a problem, so there are prohibitions. For good reason.
