So interestingly, a friend of mine, who spent his college years in the US during George Bush first election against Al Gore. He said a year leading up to it. Bush was ridiculed and made into a clown by all the medias. It was so bad, all the bad press against Bush in favour of Al Gore.

His convinced Trump is gonna be President, because history is repeating itself. Whatever Trump is facing right now was exactly what Bush faced prior to winning it.

What do ya all think?

His actually a PHD.
His just sharing that the same scenerio is happening all over again.
Wasn't it a fluke that bush won?
And just to clarify, his rooting for Hillary. His more on Lib side.
He wasn't saying it as a compliment but a disaster he thinks is gonna happen.

Trump doesn't have a brother as governor in a swing state.

this isn't history repeating itself greta in the sense of that what happened to George w bush is now happening to Donald trump and that is some sort of "tell" that trump is going to win.

all it is is the liberal media doing what they do---attacking and ridiculing people who hold different political viewpoints than them.

to a very large extent, the media is less about reporting news and more about personal advocacy.

while im here: most recent Quinnipiac polls have Hillary beating Rubio, trump, carson and cruz by anywhere from 1-5 pts. just a month ago, the reverse was true.

most recent fox polls have the same crew beating her by the same margin, plus Christie beats her too.

the swing state polling is pretty much all over the map.

for my part, while I would most definitely vote for trump over Hillary, I do not want him as the republican nominee.

It's far too soon to know who our next President will be. We aren't even out of the primaries yet.

But a bit of history:
In March of 1980, Jimmy Carter had 60% polling vs that guy in the movie with the monkey.
In 1988, Dukakis had a strong lead in the polls until he screwed up in a debate vs the VP at the time.
In 92, Bubba from Arkansas didn't take the lead in the polls until summertime.
In 2000, Dubbya had strong numbers in the polls almost consistently. Gore just wasn't very exciting.

which was what my friend said, bush kept having strong numbers consistently despite lib media keeps drawing him as a clown.
same thing is happening with trump at the moment
that's the pattern it seems to be following
i remembered that election, i actually was rooting for al gore. But I was overly influence by lib media too.

These days, I watch both right and left wing medias to see both side of views, before I decide who I prefer.

The only one that ever drew Dubbya as a clown was Dubbya.

It was part of his strategery.

But then the scary thing would be, drawing oneself as a clown is an effective strategy to win an American election?

I don't think it's anything as tenuous as "history repeating itself". To put a bit of a finer point on what my buddy, Bounty, said: If you pay attention, the mainstream media attacks any candidate that doesn't march in lock-step with the leftist/socialist agenda. That said, if you really look closely, the person they're attacking the heaviest during any week or so is usually the candidate that's polling ahead of the "chosen one".

Many years ago, I took a class that touched on polling. Not in the genre of statistics or mathematics, but in regards to how polling, itself, can shape public opinion.

It turns out that a large percentage of this country votes by name recognition/who they hear the most about that's positive.

I think the really big issue in this election cycle is going to be radical Muslim extremism/terrorism. if my surmise is correct, dumbo ears and the anti-Christ have already handed this election to anyone who isn't on the left because there can only be one of two explanations for this country's "strategy" as it relates to terrorism; either our leaders are that fucking stupid that they don't see it or they just don't care if the scum-suckers establish a global caliphate.

The only thing that you can say about polls this early is that it is highly unlikely that the person with the lead at this time will even sniff a nomination.

As for the doctorate of your friend, one of the stupidest people I ever met had a doctorate.
I was speaking to her once and said that something was a mineral and she literally asked me what a mineral was.

I know she isn't a geologist but any reasonably intelligent 6 year old knows what a mineral is.

They only know what a mineral is because they are in pop-tarts and breakfast cereals. It says so right on the packaging.

Bush didn't win VS Gore...he was appointed in a 5-4 vote by the SCOTUS, ruling that [it] would do 'irreparable harm' to count all of the Florida votes. Seems they (SCOTUS) proved that yes, there can be a little...too much democracy.

Bush endured whatever you say he did, after he got the nomination. Donnie Hair...will not get that far. The man to worry about is Cruz who will be just as bad...if not even possibly worse.

They went farther than that. Saying that it was quite likely that Gore won, but after their fucking around deciding the nothing they were going to do while forbidding a recount to take place, there was no way they could meet the federal law for turning in the certified count. Therefore give the election to W, and turn in a certified count (whether right or wrong) to the electors. Because the law was paramount in this case.

If Mr. Trump becomes President, then hopefully Putin will give us a mercy nuking! The statements Mr. Trump routinely makes are about as presidential as Ann Coulter speaks on having good lesbian sex! It will show this nation is full of more hateful and bigoted individuals than good people.

Mr. Trump is nominated, whomever is the DNC pick will have an easier time getting elected. It will not be hard to convince moderates to vote for someone sensible, practical, and professional. You can trust the DNC has plenty of dirt on Mr. Trump with which to explain what his presidency would be like. We can always start on his marriages. Move on to how well he handles other people's money. After that, his foreign policy experience. Yeah, the guy has many problems. Without having to bring up that he wants to butcher anyone related to a Muslim bomber (i.e. actual innocent people whom are horrified by events).

Also as predictable is the conservative media will place Mr. Trump in the best possible light and the DNC nomination in the worst. Facts, evidence, and figures will go out the window. Supporters, living in a delusional world that the 'Ends Justify The Means' will try anything to attack and discredit Democrats. We've watched this in the last two elections. It will be curious how they 'massage' the details of Benghazi given the facts. Or try to play up that a Nazi is some how better for a nation of free individuals. On these boards, we'll have plenty of conservatives and libertarians trying to give their all....."for the cause!". And be smacked down with the facts and evidence.

Will be fun....

Because Clinton is "sensible, practical, and professional"?

Come on Joether, even someone of your purported intelligence knows Clinton (and Trump) will further ruin this country.

There is still a large contingent that believes this country should be an oligarchy, and that whatever they have to tell the peons to get elected is fine. That was Romney incarnate. Trump feels he just didn't go far enough.

This election will be about "he's rich and so therefore is all knowing" vs. "it's time the people and not the wealthy run our nation."
