I wish we did. Look at the Drug Trade that comes in by land air and sea. We are wide open.

Pretty simple soultion...decriminalize drugs.
Those who do drugs wont stop because it is illegal.
Those who do not do durgs wont start because it becomes legal.
If heroin was made legal tomorrow how much would you run down and buy? If the answer is none then why do you suppose anyone else besides a heroin user would?

Ellie Wiesel is wrong, some cultures are superior. Are we in the west better than Saudi Arabia? You bet we are. Is Christianity better than Islam? Absofuckinglutely. Islam is still stuck in the 7th century with no way forward. It can't be reformed. Is every Islamic country a backward mysoginistic shithole? Yep. Why import that culture? Some assimilate but many don't. They bring their backward culture with them. Look at the rape statistics in what was once a very peaceful Sweden. Their immigration policy is a crime against Swedish women.

I disagree.
Some are better in some ways, others are better in different ways.

Do we have their money?? Nope.
Do we have their luxury lifestyle?? Nope.
It could be argued that they, having a better, richer, and much more luxurious lifestyle than us, are the better of the two evils.

That depends on your point of view.
In many ways, christians are as barmy and mad as the Islamics.
I'm not a christian. Nor am I an athiest or agnostic.

Oh yes it can.
They choose not to taint their faith like most other 'christian' religions have done over the centuries.

To my mind, any faith that believes in some ethereal omnipotent being in the sky is just as 'stuck' as those who follow Islam.

Is every Islamic country a backward mysoginistic shithole? Yep.

From a christian perception, that could be true - compared to christians.
For me, most christians are just as backward but in a different way.

I quite agree.
Most christians are just as stubborn too.
I don't see much difference between the two except a difference of religious opinion.

And you aren't just as backward to other non-christians???
A very myopic PoV.

It's not new - it's been going on since the 70's.
The problem is, Islamics have a different social structure than those of the (predominantly) christian west.
I find that christianity is just as abhorrent as I do for Islamics and communists and a few other religious groups.

Your problem is the same as those who follow Islam: completely intolerant of anything different to your own religion or culture.
You are just as despicable as the Islamics and communists and anyone else out there who thinks their patch of grass is the dogs bollocks and nobody should tread on it.

MercTech -> RE: Refugee Camps (12/20/2015 9:04:35 PM)

One of the things that has been used for finding a place for refugees in the past has been the concept of "sponsorship". Charitable organizations have often found places and assisted refugees in acclimating to life in the U.S.

Sometimes sponsorship can present a mental speed bump for those in the community unfamiliar with what is going on. I'm reminded of running across a big group of Sudanese boys playing soccer in a park in St. Louis that has been sponsored by the local Salvation Army.
Some more cultural cognitive dissonance was Balkan farmers working a Mennonite run boot at the farmer's market in the Ti-Cities, Washington. (Sponsored refugees of the Balkan War)

With the concerns of terrorism proliferation; I can see a concern with Syrian refugees being sponsored by coreligionists. Is the local mosque helping other Muslims or sliding in troops fresh from IS training?

isn't that similar to saying no one will commit murder or rape if we legalize it?

Of course it doesn't mean that. If we legalize it, we'll be able to have a legal market for the drugs, which would, then, include regulations (improving and advertising the quality of the drug, for instance) and taxation. The taxes can be earmarked to help support rehab programs. All the "drug Lords" will lose quite a bit of money (and, thus, power) once Capitalism takes hold and ruins their pricing (some portion of the price is due to the risk of getting caught, but with it being legal, that risk is dropped greatly).

Employers can still have limitations on hiring practices. An employee can get fired for being drunk on the job, and firing would also be likely if an employee was under the influence of certain drugs. Any drug whose effect would have a negative impact on safety could be on the list of things that get you fired.

You can drink alcohol all you want as long as you're no longer under the effect of that alcohol while at work. An employer might be concerned about your drinking, on a personal, non-work health concern, but that won't impact your employment as long as you're not under the influence of alcohol while at work.

Legalizing drugs would be considered pretty much the same way.

Only to a moron.
On the other hand rape is virtually unknown in those counties of nevada that have legalized prostitution.
