There's one HUGE problem with the whole movement.... It starts with HAPPY!! [:'(][:'(][:'(]

Sending you a big happy greeting, and a hug, from across the pond.
You are such a sweety pie.

<fast reply>

A couple of days back, I spent the entire day writing out holiday cards.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, have a great solstice celebration...

Do you know the funny thing? I never felt bad. Sure, I might make a mistake about what holiday is what. As I figure, most folks will be ok. It's not about my religion, or my faith. It's about telling folks they are important enough, to reach out across the miles and say, "you matter".

Merry Christmas...

And, if it can't be Merry Christmas, I wish you well in the coming New Year.

If someone of another religion wished me a merry day on their religious holiday I would thank them and try to have a merry day... why would I be offended just because i am of a different religion?..Yes Happy Holiday is PC... It may not be a Holiday for them either... but who cares?

Butch

I get the feeling some people aren't happy unless they are being offended about something. I had a customer start bitching at me because I wished the lady ahead of him in line "merry christmas". He wanted to know how I knew she was a christian. When I explained that that particular customer was a friend of mine who went to my church, he got all huffy and told me I should wait until we were in church and not say it in a public building. Being the good christian I am, I merely smiled and told him to bite me.

Then I had another customer come in and tell me he was offended by the music I was playing. It was Manheim Steamroller meets the mouse. Not a christmas tune on the whole album but I guess he was too busy being offended to notice that.

On the flip side, I also had a customer get mad because they heard me say "happy holidays". They wanted to know why I didn't say Merry Christmas and didn't appear any happier about my explanation than the others.

It may just be the folks I know, but I've heard much more whining about "Happy Holidays" than about "Merry Christmas."

I'm think I may go with "Joyous Axial Tilt!" After all, it's the reason for the season. [;)]

I have mentioned before im not fond of the "war on...." anything phraseology, but that said, righhht, god hating liberals and atheists are just so content to leave everything as christmasy as can be. if that's too cynical, try instead to imagine that all this is really being done in the name of constitutional fidelity. that should give the reader a good laugh.

alternatively, Christians just love it when one of the their major holidays is made the object of lawsuits, ridicule, bannings, etc. so while I might not buy into the word "war", they are neither completely free to exercise their faith in the public square and the general hostility towards Christianity finds one of its manifestations in problems with christmas.

that said however, if the "war on Christmas" is "fake" its certainly a lot more effective than the "war on poverty" and a lot more real than the democrats "war on women" meme.

personally im not "offended" (nor am I at "happy holidays")---rather I find it just another piece of evidence that shows liberals as enemies to the things I value and as I understand traditional America to be (which is something leftists seek to destroy).

Some are rather upfed and sick of christians shoving thier belief down their throats and up their asses.
Why are there laws, in many places, against selling alcohol on sunday? That is a chirstian war on non christians who drink.

I must lead a sheltered life because I always took Happy Holidays as a shortcut for saying Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. It seems to me it is only recently that it has become a PC phrase. It has been used in my area since I've been on this earth and I don't believe there was PC 68 years ago.

I do know one Jewish family that hide Easter baskets full of candy for their children...and I know more than a few atheists that exchange Christmas presents.

I do seem to remember a few opinions that were not politically correct that you let be known you were offended by. But I do get and appreciate the gist of the thread..and hope I am not offending you...again.

Butch

I am not offended by what you typed {this time}.
I dont get offended because someone is not politically correct, I am rarely politically correct, and I am hardly a crowd follower.
I get offended by people who say things I find offensive, which has zero to do with being politically correct.
MERRY CHRISTMAS

What is PC and what is offensive is just perspective...not an excuse to claim piety or be judgmental.

I feel the same way. Ive said Happy Holidays once I got into High School and got to know people from other counties, religions, & even republicans, ( yup I was politically aware early in life!)
So at this stage of things, I don't care if its PC or not..... its what I say to everyone.......

A Happy Passover, which is inextricably linked to Easter.

Jesus was the Passover Lamb, without spot or blemish.
No man took his life because he gave himself willingly and let himself be objectified as such.
The perfect Master-Teacher Prophet showed perfect submission.

Only the Romans had the power and the authority to perform crucifixions in Judaea.

so the jews DIDN'T kill jesus and the Christians have been killing them over the centuries for no reason; when they really should have been wasting the Romans ?............Does that mean the jews can now start on the Catholics as a sort of 'pay-back ' ? *smile*...........Or maybe Israel will declare war on Italy. Pity Monty Python isn't still around........that gang would have a ball with this ball of yarn.

Calling yourself a Christian doesn't make you one.

Neither does calling yourself a Master, or calling yourself a slave. [8|]

I used to teach kids how to swim, and I usually said merry Christmas at first, but then realized that a lot of my students were Muslim or Indian and didn't celebrate Christmas. That's when I switched to saying happy holidays, because I didn't want these kids to feel like they were being excluded. Saying happy holidays isn't about being PC, to me it's more about not being arrogant to assume the other person celebrates the same holidays or has the same religion as you do, so why would I want to merry Christmas to someone who doesn't obviously celebrate Christmas? Seems like a waste of air when happy holidays gets the point across much better and with less confusion.

This is the problem with societies who do not celebrate all minorities occasions, because they do not get holidays for minorities occasions.

For us, Christmas, we say Merry christmas to hindus, buddhist, muslims, no problem at all. NOBODY gets offended. When it's their occasions, they wish us, Happy deepavali, Happy Hari Raya. We don't celebrate that shit, but we sure hell don't feel excluded and offended.

It is the very definition of PC. And I live in a country where majority people are Buddhist by religion. Most of us don't even celebrate Christmas! It's seriously stupid to feel excluded over a word with kind thoughts like "Merry Christmas" from Christians.

I mean are all of you non-muslims gonna scream that you are excluded when Muslims start wishing you Happy Hari Raya? Are you? Muslims here always wishes us all Happy Hari Raya! Think about how illogical this is? I don't agree with alot of things Muslims do, but wishing me Happy Hari Raya is the ONE GOOD THING that they actually do, because on that day, it's delivered with kind thoughts.

Why is it only in western societies it becomes a sensitivity issue, but not in Asia where majority are not even Christians?

If that is not because of PC, then I don't know what it is, because most Asian countries do not have PC problems.
