I was under the impression that it was Roman grunts who swung the hammers and some Lt or whatever whatever who jabbed him with a spear to see if he was still alive.......................shortly after, he wasn't. Bloke named Longinus, so goes the story. I could well be wrong. It's a lot of years since I read this particular fairy-story. I personally prefer Winnie The Pooh

I believe you are right...longinus was the base player for pontius p and the nail dirving five.

And I heard on TV the other day ( from a British programme), that Xmas (as in the Twelve Days of Christmas) actually begins sometime in mid-December and extends into Late January or early February. So that 12 days business is something of a misnomer ring-in from somewhere

I love Christmas. But it's a single day. Two, at most counting Christmas Eve. It does not start the day after Thanksgiving and then run until New Year's.

Christmas is not just a day, many {myself included}, believe in the Christmas season.
The Christmas season, lasts at least 12 days.
Partridge in a pear tree and all!
Merry Christmas bitches!!

if you want to look into the origins of all of the traditions that make up the holiday season it is very interesting and a great debate among those that follow certain beliefs.
one is the day of the 25th of dec it started as xristos mas not sure of the spelling but it was more common and popular so the church moved their celebration to its date
and the evergreen tree was a European tradition of a small table top one that would be planted in the spring as part of the renewal celebration and the yule log came from when fire was not easy to start so all fires were extinguished and the local priest would start one and then all would come and get a piece of the fire for their home fire.
the list just keeps going so no matter what you believe or practice let it be happy and joyous and filled with love

I'm sorry, but you have your facts all jumbled up.

xristos mas is the Greek root for "Christ Mass" (Christmas).

December 25 (or there abouts) was the original date of Yule which IS a Pagan Holiday that the church of Rome decided to co-opt. The "Christmas tree" also had something to do with the celebration of Yule, originally.

Many scholars (even religious ones) believe that Jesus was actually born in March (I believe) and that it took until December for the Magi to find him.

Constantine was a scumbag that co-opted a religious movement for political gain. he also did a "pick-and-choose" version of what made it into Canon (and gave the clergy of the time some pretty free reign).

that part of the story I got too, I never found out why they moved it to the winter solstice. I suppose to bring all these other religions under one umbrella since they claim to be the universal church.

I was wrong about when the 12 Days of Christmas begin.
It actually begins on Christmas Day, and then continues thru January 5!!!

I think it begins when the big retailers want you to start emptying your pockets and stops when they realise they can't push their luck any further.

It begins when you want it to begin.

Some people will spend money they don't have on things people don't want, granted, but that's a comment on the way our society is today not on Christmas, and Consumerism is a daily activity for many.

Christmas starts for me when I finish work and have a few days of drinking and seeing friends and family with no work to think about. I also take my Mother to carol services at Church and although not religious I really enjoy that and look forward to it. It's nice to see a community who are bonded together with a firm belief which to me is a nice story with a happy ending and hear them sing - what's not to like about a group of human beings being happy?

Meri Kurisumasu!

The folks on this archipelago don't seem to care whether it's a religious thing or not.

They wear the hats in shopping centres and don't get bothered by PC concepts.

I've spent every christmas hear for the last 5 years, and I don't even remember what it's like in NA.
