Greta75 -> RE: What is everyone paying for gas? (12/15/2015 11:44:15 PM)

I pay $2.10 per Litre which is the equivalent of $7.96 per US Gallon for like a 95 type.

Damn $1.91 per gallon is sooooooooo cheap! On top of that, an average car here cost $100k for a volkswagon golf for example, onwards and up and you can only own it for 10 years. Before it needs to get scrape. Cars are always spanking new in this country, most people change cars every 3 years.

We spend half our monthly salaries on cars over here, as we are all spoilt despite our public transport being so convenient and well connected, and cabs are everywhere, we just like wasting money on cars.

I guess cars = privacy and in an over crowded tiny city, privacy is a commodity, and we are willing to spend stupid amounts of money on it.

petrol is going at about $1-16 a litre Gwen and we are just looking at a new car for about $20,000 *smile*......cheap but still nowhere like the U.S.

And you have to pay for some kind of driving permit to allow you to drive in Sg, don't you ? Plus the cost of the licence itself

Ya, our driving permit cost 60k to 80k. But no choice. We are too tiny. If we don't want traffic jams like Manila, where 5 minutes walk is a 5 hour drive, we need to make cars unaffordable.
I mean clearly making public transport so easy doesn't work at all.

People just want cars.

Dvr22999874 -> RE: What is everyone paying for gas? (12/16/2015 12:02:07 AM)

I found taxis to very cheap when were in Sg but we both enjoyed and prefferred the transport system. Fast, clean, efficient and no graffiti *smile*

Here in a Milwaukee suburb it's $1.79.....

Singapore land area 276 sq. mi less than one million cars...
Los angeles land area 503 sq. mi more than six million cars... With only twice the land area they have six times as many cars.

People just want cars.

Horse shit, the rich want cars the poor want food clothing and shelter...17% of singapore are millionares while 28% live below the poverty line s$1500 ($1060 usd) per month.
The middle class make s$3000 ($2118 usd) per month.

Horshit...singapore is the largest exporter of used cars in the world. The reason for the ten year age is that is the length of time that a coe (certificate of entitlement) last.

Cars are always spanking new in this country, most people change cars every 3 years.

Most people do not own a car in that third world shithole. 5 million people and less than a million cars.

We spend half our monthly salaries on cars over here,

The average monthly salary in that third world shithole is s$3000...how does one buy a $100,000 car, the coe and afford fuel?[8|]

By spending 50% to 60% of our salary on car, and taking up a 10 year car loan.

Many people do it by choice. 1 Million cars is alot of cars. 1/5 people own cars, and you don't think that's alot? May I remind you again, we are only 45km x 28km. I skate the circumference of my country in 14 hours, and that's with all my meal breaks included. That's how tiny it is. 1 million cars is crazy Especially when on foot, I can walk the 28km in less than 5 hours. And that's it, walking from north to south of my country on foot only takes me 5 hours.

I think your stats for LA is misleading, first of all, I'd like to know how many cars do each home actually own? And they probably only drive out one each day.

Cars in US is so cheap, households can easily own multiple cars but not drive them all everyday. I can buy 5 cars in US, with 1 car in Singapore.

Also, I need to know how the car registration that it's located in LA works? I mean in Singapore, it's just Singapore. But LA borders other states. Are those cars actually inside LA? Are simply purchased from LA? How do we know it's used inside LA and not outside of LA? Are those cars exclusively not allowed to leave LA?

Comparing a state where people probably work outside of their state daily, to a Country where people are only confine to inside Singapore is not a fair comparison. The reason why you can handle so many cars is I suspect, most of these cars travel outside of LA zone and multiple car ownership plays a part too.

Wow. I thought mine was bad. I had to renew my driver's license when moving here and paid $72.00. The person at the Motor Vehicle Administration told me it is one of the highest in the nation. Most expensive piece of plastic with my picture on it I have ever had.

When leaving Alaska roughly a year and a half ago, we were paying $4.20, so what we are paying now is less than half that.

There are a lot of multiple car households in LA but if it's a married couple and they both work, they will each be taking a car.

Our truck was roughly $50,000 a little over four years ago. Ford F150, extended cab, extended bed. To me, I thought that was a lot. The car, on the other hand, wasn't nearly as expensive and is paid off. We don't have that ten year limit thing like you are talking about.

Have you ever seen rush hour traffic in LA? When we used to go visit Mnb (do you remember them?) I would make MP drive. Washington, DC is terrible. New York city is awful. Atlanta, GA can be a nightmare. Some of our big cities are horrid.

Most people living/working in LA aren't going out of state to work. You see that kind of thing more where I live now because there are several cities close to the state borders. It's not uncommon for folks to live in Virginia to commute here for work. There are a lot of good paying government contracting jobs in this area but living costs can be cheaper across the state lines. Registering a vehicle here or paying this state's sales tax for a car isn't exactly the greatest in the nation.

Does that help out a bit?

Vehicle Licensing Statistics 2013 [PDF]: At the end of 2013 there were 35.0 million vehicles licensed for use on the roads in Great Britain, of which 29.1 million were cars.

Our population is around 65 million.
And like Singapore, it's an island nation.
Almost 45% of us own cars (53.8% if you count all vehicles) compared to only 20% in Singapore.
Comparison to a US state doesn't apply, so our demographics are similar - just a bit bigger.
Average monthly earnings in Singapore is SG$3770 ($2660).
UK average monthly earnings are £2208 ($3293).
So... we earn approx 24% more than those in Singapore yet we own more than twice the number of cars.
The average car loan is only over 3-5 years in the UK, not 10 years as in Singapore.

According to this site (Global Petrol Prices), as of 15th December 2015, you pay 20cents a litre less than we do in the UK.

Is that a fair comparison for you Greta??

Average monthly salary in that third world shithole is s$3000. Take away icome tax and the extortion racket that leaves about s$1600 x 12 s$19,200 x 10+s$192,000...The question now is what did you eat durng that ten years, where did you sleep...you really do say the dumbest shit.

As I pointed out los angeles is only twice as big and has 6 million cars and about 4 million people It sits within the county of los angeles with a population of 18 million

I think your stats for LA is misleading, first of all, I'd like to know how many cars do each home actually own? And they probably only drive out one each day.

Single people have one car married people have two why is that so difficult to figure out?

Cars in US is so cheap,
Only a moron would believe that the car companies charge less for their cars in the states than they do in singapore. You are quite aware that the gangsters that run singapore is what causes the cars in singapore to cost what they do so why the dumb act?[8|]

households can easily own multiple cars but not drive them all everyday. I can buy 5 cars in US, with 1 car in Singapore.

That is because you live in a third world shithole run by nazi gangsters

Also, I need to know how the car registration that it's located in LA works? I mean in Singapore, it's just Singapore. But LA borders other states.

Even a dumbass knows that los angeles boarders on the ocean and it is about 300 miles to the next nearest state boarder

Are those cars actually inside LA? Are simply purchased from LA? How do we know it's used inside LA and not outside of LA? Are those cars exclusively not allowed to leave LA?

Once again the surounding cities put another couple of million cars into los angeles daily. Many people commute more than a hundred miles one way to work in los angeles but of course they get paid more than s$3200 per month

Comparing a state where people probably work outside of their state daily,

Perhaps a geography book would help disabuse you of your ignorance

to a Country where people are only confine to inside Singapore is not a fair comparison. The reason why you can handle so many cars is I suspect, most of these cars travel outside of LA zone and multiple car ownership plays a part too.

That would indicate the level of your ignorance

OsideGirl -> RE: What is everyone paying for gas? (12/17/2015 4:34:22 PM)

We are paying $2.75 for regular, $2.89 for midgrade and $3.01 for premium.

thompsonx -> RE: What is everyone paying for gas? (12/17/2015 4:38:17 PM)

I pay .35 cents a gallon for propane which is what I burn in my car.

vintagedoll -> RE: What is everyone paying for gas? (12/17/2015 5:39:09 PM)

This morning I paid $1.79 for regular. The funny thing is it could be cheaper as it is manufactured 15 miles from my home town, but pay transportation charges to have shipped back from the gas rack.

According to the NYMEX, crude oil futures closed at $34.76 a barrel today and trending down. Good news for holiday travels, but on the home front have began to see the decline in the oil industrial support businesses in the form of layoffs.

Greta75 -> RE: What is everyone paying for gas? (12/17/2015 6:09:14 PM)

Thompson,

There are only 3.8 mil people living in LA, and 5 Million cars according to you. There are 5 million people in SG and 1 million cars according to you.

So my suspicion about many LA people owning multiple cars is correct. 3.8 mil people cannot possibly be congesting the road with all their 5mil cars everyday.

The stats gotta be according to cars purchased in LA, but not actual data of what actually piles the road daily and IF the car was actually based in LA.

When a Singapore car is purchased in Singapore, they are limited to Singapore and they are 100% based in Singapore.

BTW, I've been on a road trip from Arizona, Las Vegas, Los Angelos, San Fransisco, San Diego before. You got a nice highway there that was so easy to navigate and do the whole drive through. So don't lie to me that Los Angelos is not connected to other states or cities. On top of that, our flights out of the country for that trip was back in LA, so it was all very well connected by road for us to visit all those places and come back to LA to fly off.
