ORIGINAL: LadyConstanze There's one thing fearing death and it's another thing to see your wife, sister, daughter, etc. being raped and tortured. For ages I thought people were spineless to not stand up against them, when seeing the scars and hearing him say what went on, I changed my view dramatically, because let's face it who could condemn loved ones to that? All the more important to never ever let it come to that sort of thing, learn from history and stop them before they have the power to torture. Being a student of history, I knew that there were good reasons for people not standing up to the Nazis. The famous case of the people downwind from a death camp where the mayor committed suicide when he was forced to tour (by the allies) the camp where he had decieved himself as to what was going on. I have for decades said that the only thing he would have accomplished by speaking out against it was joining them, of course his family would have gone with them. The is the case of a German woman, loyal and never saying a word agaist the Nazis who got into the wrong part of a train station, saw them shipping out the Jews, she and her sons were forced on to the train even though the soldiers knew she wasn't a Jew and were shipped off to a death camp. I knew a survivor of one of those camps. Keep in mind that I grew up in the 50s/60s and these things were still part of the national conciousness. This is why I oppose government power even in its most benign incarnations. and we did the same thing to the japs. I do enjoy the language however in that whenever speaking of germany they are 'death camps' and america they are 'internment camps' when the only difference is that in germany the jews actually earned a wage for their services and could buy beer and cigarettes at the kanteena and see plays etc whereas the japs were not afforded those luxuries by the US.. I'm confused. We're the Jews afforded these luxuries before or after going to the concentration camps ? We're the Japs, after going to the internment camps (not saying that was the right thing to do) torchured, medical experimented on, beaten, starved to death and all the rest of it ? What's your point here ? Why not ask them yourself? The nazi death camps! Warning this is adult content.
