I notice a lot of people are upset about the mentally ill issue:)
mind you they were more furious before the announcement.
no regs, thats the best. yaay

The law already says that anyone declared a danger due to mental problems is prohibited from buying firearms. The problem here is that Obama oked violation of HIPPA and other laws. Of course I would love to see Congress make putting the legally obtained information into the database, too many states, VA for example, refuses to. This needs to be done by law, not by the President changing law with an unconstitutional EO.

Nope.not unconstituional, thats fucking stupid. The Nics preceded Hippa, and this would be a agency rule (yeah, read executive order) to allow it. There is no strict prohibition about releasing that information to authorized agencies.

Here is some reading for you:

The good news, we can find out which gun nuts are nuts.

Oh, try and get one right per decade, Bama.

I go for getting one right a year, this gets me up to aproxematly the year 6127.

A Where in the Constitution does it allow the President to re-write laws.

That's part of why it's a purely political ploy, designed expressly to box the Congress into an action which itself is designed to differentiate the Republicans from the Democrats in an election year (especially when neither side has a strong contender, so, differentiation is critical).

You've got it half right crumpets.

Gun Control is an effort to distract from terrorism in the usa, poor labor force participation, failed strategy in syria, putin eating his lunch in syria and crimea, china being aggressive in the south china seas, planned parenthood selling body parts, refugee riots, Iran developing missiles in violation of treaty.

But lets bang the drum for gun control thats irrelevent so we don't have to talk about all these other things...

While this will appeal to the Democratic base it is a loser with the general population.

It's reasonably easy to modify Semi-Automatics into Full auto and create guns out of blank guns and so forth.
The argument that this is a threat to civil liberty and to the ability of the people to resist tyranny is a bit overblown.

Although America really can't claim to be exceptionally free anymore.
Neither when it comes to guns (common, buying guns at conventions! Where else could you do that? That's a free people!), when it comes to privacy, when it comes to a diversified and free media and so forth (finances, gambling, freedom of speech, etc).

It's really kinda falling behind.

It's behind Germany on internet freedom.
It's behind the Netherlands on drug freedom.
In ease of business its lead is getting nibbled away.

Maybe the national anthem needs to change, that's all.
TTIP/TPP will standardize us all anyway.
