We are all adults and we really can make our own decisions..for better or for worse. I can tell you one thing though, it's people like you that make people like us keep smoking...at least we will have one less thing in common.
As for the comparisons, I think what scares you is that it does make sense. Certainly we could say screw it,  we're going to smoke no matter what a portion of the populations says, but it lends more relevence to show example of how the entire anti-smoking crusade is nothing more than a witch hunt, in a large populus of witches (no offense to witches, just using that as an example). I don't have to justify what I do, I really don't care, smoking in public was accepted way before segregating the smokers from the non-smokers was. What I do care is that this, as well as any other form of personal expression is in peril because of the select groups that think everyone should be the same.

First of all, Marie is not responsible for your addiction. You are not a smoker to prove anything to nonsmokers. Secondly, your expression of who you are could hamper my expression of who I am. I am a clean smelling nonsmoker that spent money to wash my hair and launder my clothing. Health risks aside, I have the RIGHT to not smell like you.

I used to be a smoker, and I guess what bothers me about someone professing the RIGHT to litter someone else's airspace is just screwed up, I never claimed that right as a smoker, and I will not accept others claiming that right now I am not.. it is called being RUDE. If I peed in your water I bet you would bitch even though drinking my pee probably wouldn't hurt you, and I could even claim that I couldn't find a convenient toilet and it was cold outside so that gave me the RIGHT to pee in your water. It isn't rational or civil to pee in somone else's drink, why are you pissing in my air?

I swear non-smokers slide up close to a smoker just so they can have a damn good complain about breathing their smoke.

You probably drink alcohol.  Maybe enjoy a glass of wine.

How ridiculous would you find it if I compared you to a violent drunk or a killer in a car ploughing his drunken way through a crowd of people?

That's how responsible smokers feel with your attacks on something that isn't - no matter how many times you say it - affecting you whatsoever.

Way to go, Julia!  As another ex-smoker, I agree with you 100%.  I made the choice not to continue smoking after watching my Daddy (my real father) die because of smoking-related lung cancer.  It really pisses me off to go somewhere with a group of friends and leave smelling like an ashtray because the establishment allows smoking, or to have to walk through a group of smokers standing outside a door of a place so I can either get in or get out.

Your "pissing" analogy is excellent!!  thanks!

I actually had a guy who was 400 = pounds sit next to me one time (while I was smoking) and then whine that his doctor told him to stay away from second hand smoke and I needed to put my cigarette out...I laughed and told him apparently he didn give three figs what his doctor said if his physical condition was any indication...
And for you whiny non-smokers...when you park your car, stop killing animals and wildlife with your chemical plant out put and chopping down the rain forest, I'll put them in the trash and never smoke another one. I don't imagine there are going to be very many of you buffet over- eating, couch potato-where's the remote? SUV driving whiners can just put on your big girl panties and deal. So bring on the ugly emails....lol

Exactly.  I don't drive and I don't drink alcohol but I bet some of the non-smokers above do.

But I don't want to stop them from doing it.  I smoke responsibly, around nobody that would object.  I don't have the choice whether I breathe someone's exhaust fumes - I have to tolerate that every day and I can't simply ask a car driver to do it somewhere else.

If you're going to criticise smokers, at least have the decency to drive a pollutant free car, otherwise people could be forgiven for thinking you're being a little hypocritical.

Dead F*****G WRONG!..they do not have more right to enjoy their freedoms than I do mine...their meal out is a luxury just as my cigarettes are and should be just as easily revoked as my right to light up when and where on GOD's green earth I choose...(your comment was presented like those of a Backwoods Southern Baptist Republican separatist)...and everyone--(regardless of their nicotine habit or lack thereof) has absolutely zero option to infringe upon, curtail or minimize my freedoms or anyone else's by requiring me to forfiet mine for their comfort....I have to listen to obnoxious, vulgar and abusive language because I amoke from the real zealots of this sect...the more they whine, the bigger I drag and the more I blow it their direction...If they'd quit bitching and I might care; but not as long as they nag and try to force their will on me.

The key is delivery and presentation. You can tell someone they smell like shit and look like hell if you wrap it in bright cheerful paper and put a pretty bow on it, and they will thank you. But the way you people (and converts truly are the worst about trying to force their way on everyone else around them---as if quitting earned them additional Superiority points or something for pete's sake---)go about it is offensive in every way.
I do not need to ask if the person next to me in a night club or smoking permitted public location mind's if I smoke...I am sure the guy three tables over isn't going to either...non-smokers enter facilities that allow smoking at their own risk just as I open my door and go get the mail breathing all your created pollutants AT MY OWN RISK...

Do we hold every auto driver responsible when one is in an accident? Do we make every driver pay for the care and recovery of the injured party and repalce the vehicle the careless driver destroyed?

Does every coffemaker manufacturer have to pay a defendant when the switch on the new Black and Decker coffee maker doesn't function properly and burns the house down?
Non-smokers of the ilk which continue to turn this matter into a civil war instead of the right to choose that it actually is are just a bunch of gold diggers looking for a new way to get something for doing absolutely nothing and not deserving what they TAKE from the not guilty in these cases.

Oh and just to get the facts straight, cigarette smoking has been proven to cause lung cancer in laboratory rats...(animals environmentally controlled from before their great-great-great grandparents were bred and having been bred to devolop and enhance certain natural traits and remove others...so we are working with tainted results before the experiments ever began) and then they are given massive doses of nicotine in a SEALED container. That would do tt for any creature that breathes. In regard to humans they can only truthfully assert it CAN cause lung cancer, and that  in certain individuals whose genetic make up is inferior and causes them to be hyper sensitive to nicotine, it is likely it will cause them to develop lung cancer; but not a foregone fact.
(takes a deep and satisfying drag and exhales luxuriously) Y'allhave a good day...Smoke 'em if you got 'em!

KatyLied...back to the auto driving thing....sorry, I pport your right to say your peace and will die to insure you have it...but millions more people are driving cars that are destroying not only the health of every living thing on the face of the earth; "But when it impacts the health of other people it is a public concern." Hmmmm....how many fingers pointing back?

Group A - Non-smokers.

Group B - Smokers.

Group C - Dogs telling everyone to shut the hell up, you're interfering with my right not to have to watch this go past on the scroller.

Group D - Group that will actually shut up due to this being a pointless and repetetive thread - Forever to remain empty

no, I do not..I own no home, I drive no car, I have no Social Security benefits coming my way when I retire despite the fact I have paid in over $200K in my lifetime, I get no tax refunds; I recieve no state health care benefits, no food stamps, no free education, no monthly stipend to meet my needs, I am represented in Washington by dufusses and dingbats who can't tell they butts from a hole in the ground if you put their hand in each one and told them which is which, I have to dodge selfish auto drivers when I walk in my neighborhood or attempt to ride my bike so I get no use of the roads I helped pay for, and the public defender will send me to jail before they will bother to defend me (anyone see that story on the news a few months back?)...I get no benefits from the taxes I pay except the IRS leaves me in peace...Why am I still paying for WWII?
Gads! I need a cigarette...

I want my dry cleaning paid for by the oil industry in Texas and every auto driver in the world and the disgusting people who douse themselves in cheap smelling cologne and then rub up against me in the grocery line and make me smell their stinky  stuff all the way home and into the garbage bin...

The truth of the matter is, people want smoking banned because they don't like it. They will never admit it, but that is the real agenda. And using a made up danger of second hand smoke is part of the plan. 50,000 die each year from second hand smoke? Where? And why is it that in a country like Japan, where they smoke like chimneys, their health rate is better than ours?

hehe I think the whole things just a straw dog. People want to talk about polutents, well how about that nasty big rig truck we're stuck behind on the road who's exhaust belches thick black smoke all over the cars behind and arround it.

I don't smoke, yes I think smokers stink and it's a fowl nasty habbit, so I just don't allow smoking around me, nor do I hang with smokers, nor do I go to establishments that allow smoking.

And I so know what you mean about going out to smoke and every one comes with, and then it's like they complain later, it's a weird phenominon.
