Sigh. The water from the flint river has high levels of chlorides and chlorates. Which reacts with the solder to make it more water soluble.
Often orthophoshate (as I said twice earlier) is added to the water to prevent that. Tests were done, and it was shone that orthophosphate was not effective,

Since it was known that it would not work why stay with the water supply that it would not work with?

for reasons no one here will be remotely interested in, since its, yanno, actual science.

Smething you have shown absolutely no appreciation for.

So there was a lot of hoopla because the ortho phosphate wasn't being used - you're poisoning the children.

It wasn't used because it didn't work.

Knowing that they still kept the water supply that it would not work with...good science???good logic???? or good profits????[8|]

First you say this

Thats because we prefer to debate issues not character assassinations.

Then you say this

This whole thing is rather predictable. .

Flint hasn't elected a republican mayor since its charter in 1974. 41 years of democrat rule did exactly what 41 years of liberal democrat rule does in virtually every circumstance. Bankruptcy. Democrats fuck up big time, as in this case. They pass feel good legislation that costs money; they cozy up to unions and cronys of the dim party - they go bankrupt

Feelings, appearances, and appeasing democrat constituent are more important than factual analysis and competency. You know most government projects just pay too much, are way behind schedule due to featherbedding - but no these guys are so incompetent they can't even deliver water - something as simple as pump water from point a to point b - something every fucking city in the country does.

And then when it all blows up - somehow its the republican governors fault - because its more important to get partisan gain from it.

The democrats responsible for this debacle have know for years they were cheating on the testing protocol.
The democrat in charge of the EPA knew for a year they were poisoning people.

And you cluelessly or disingenuously wonder why we think you a fool[8|]

Your full of shit! Tell me Phydeaux, have you tried to character assassinate me?

The answer of course is 'Yes'! Your just like all the other conservatives on this forum. Sooner or later (usually sooner) one of you will try to attack me rather than making a counter argument to the discussion. That is often because my argument is air tight but you feel the need to 'get even'. If the argument was not air tight, you would have attacked the argument. That is how I know you and the other conservatives on here are full of shit at times!

Phydeaux -> RE: Flint Water Situation (1/18/2016 12:18:21 PM)

Lol. Ether, I disregard most of your posts, just as I do otters, tweaks, & thompson. Not because your ideas are air tight - but because they are so laughable that no one takes them seriously.

Just like your posts that 9/11 was, an inside job, you have no chance of persuading anyone that matters. So why give you the credence of a reply?

As for character assassinations I defy one of you libs to find a case where I engaged in ad hominems before you.

guardianschattel -> RE: Flint Water Situation (1/18/2016 12:44:56 PM)

It can only happen in America. Many third world nations have better water treatment. Corrupt politicians and greedy profit hungry, cut corners businessmen. There are frequent problems like this and many others causing illness. Americans have fewer rights than Europeans but believe the propaganda that all is well in paradise.

http://www.wxyz.com/news/region/washtenaw-county/dozens-protest-governor-snyder-call-for-his-resignation-outside-his-ann-arbor-home

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WXYZ) - At least 100 protesters braved the sub-zero wind chills Monday afternoon to rally outside of Governor Rick Snyder's downtown Ann Arbor residence.

The protest, organized by the Washtenaw County chapter of Michigan Rising, brought people from across the state expressing anger at the governor for his role in the Flint water crisis.

"It just got to the point where we said enough is enough. Let's do something," organizer Colleen Crossey said.

Protesters contend Snyder knew about Flint's tainted water long before switching the city's water supply back to the Detroit system and long before he declared a state emergency January 5.

“He should have paid attention to the experts," Crossey said. "He should have switched it back over to Detroit water as soon as he knew about the contamination," she added.

“It feels personal and it makes us all, people who are in Flint and people who are tied to Flint very, very angry," Flint native Jeff Brown said.

Judy Bonnell-Wenzel braved the bitter cold because she says the biggest atrocity is that young children were exposed to lead.

"They're poisoned. And now, at the very best, they're going to go through very difficult times to try and get that lead out."

Protesters met at Rackham Auditorium at the University of Michigan and marched several blocks to Snyder's Main St. address.

Many of the protesters say they plan to protest in Lansing Tuesday, ahead of Snyder's State of the State address.

You tell me to stop posting partisan crap - and then post partisan crap. Ironic.

Proving once again the point is to score political points rather than fix the problem. Any protests against the epa administrator Sarah H. who let people be poisoned for a year? How about the democrat water authority.

Ah not out manFlint appeared appeared on BBC website 3 days ago and again today, has this been going on since 2013?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-35336617

Flint water contamination: Tap water 'made our hair fall out Free electrolysis hair treatment for all

And according to the wiki page it was over 1 year before they tested the water....which I don't really understand.

satanscharmer -> RE: Flint Water Situation (1/19/2016 12:43:19 PM)

The switch took place in 2013 and reports of possible water quality issues started coming in 2014.
They were in the news, just not heavily reported like it is now - my local news subscription is to the Flint news, so I'm not sure how much or what everyone else hears/sees. But the government assured everyone that it was safe.

WickedsDesire -> RE: Flint Water Situation (1/19/2016 1:03:38 PM)

Scary..I did a bit more reading today on flint and events and timetable.
Many things I do not understand this should have been picked up on testing - which makes me wonder even more: cash shenanigans, back scratching, gold bribes, corruption, aside.

How much is a water bill in flint these days.

Edit
Scotland: water and sewage supply remain in governments muckly paws, has a standard charge per house per annum £346

England, it is in the hands of the private sector, average about £400 methinks...seems cheaper than I thought I am sure i read some places were £1000

satanscharmer -> RE: Flint Water Situation (1/19/2016 1:18:03 PM)

I'm not sure how much they charge for water...outrageous and highest in the County, I believe. (I don't live in the city of Flint).
It was a stupid move from the beginning, the way they did it, all for money. IMO, nobody wanted to admit they were wrong and kept sweeping it under the rug in hopes it would just go away. When a plant (one of our largest auto manufacturers) located in Flint stopped using the water because of its effects in 2014 that should have been plenty of confirmation.

It is scary.

ETA ~ I did a quick search and it appears that they pay, on average $140 USD a month. Which, if my calculation is correct (it could be wrong and I apologize if I'm way off) £1185 annually.

WickedsDesire -> RE: Flint Water Situation (1/19/2016 1:36:04 PM)

Lead is horrific * like a cupboard spartan of muffins*. Incidentally it exists everywhere and non biodegradable thanks to petril or gasoline as some of you lot call it.
..what was his name hmmm

Tetraethyllead or Thomas Midgley. Thomas Midgley (born 18 May 1889; died 2 November 1944), was an American inventor. His two most famous inventions are both now banned because they are dangerous for the world environment: the use of lead in petrol (gasoline) and the use of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) in refrigerators.

insane foorker

I will reiterate water is tested on a daily basis - they must have known - are they that corrupt?
.

Solutions
1. tar and feathering and mass sackings and imprisonments. I see mayor loon still in office.
2. New pipes
3. witch hunt - one cannot beat one - well you can beat them with a handsome sturdy length of lead piping to introduce them unto the error of their ways

The Epa Administrator (a democrat) sat on the test results while they discussed with the state water quality agency how to fix. Meanwhile for a year, people were poisoned.

This is on top of the fact that state and local water quality tests were falsified - all done by democrats, to protect democrats.

satanscharmer -> RE: Flint Water Situation (1/19/2016 4:22:23 PM)

Watching the State of the State address right now...
If you're interested, Snyder will be releasing his emails and a "comprehensive" timeline, available tomorrow. Take it all how you will.

Since the governor is not a democrat who was he protecting?
