stef -> RE: why do people vote for donald trump (3/1/2016 10:35:31 PM)

Blunt head trauma or a congenital brain defect?

Greta75 -> RE: why do people vote for donald trump (3/1/2016 11:13:27 PM)

Because people are sick of politicians being unable to get things done.

So they want to give a businessman a chance to get things done.

LadyPact -> RE: why do people vote for donald trump (3/2/2016 12:39:13 AM)

It's a betting pool. People want to vote him in so we can gamble on just how long it will take for the face to hit critical mass and explode. I hear the winner gets a Caribbean cruise.

But I hear that Trump is a pisspoor businessman. Surely people would at least want a good businessman?

How can he be a piss poor business man if his richer than when he started?

And if Trump had 0 failures in his business and has no track record of rising higher and higher from each failure, then I will be worried as his first failure could be America.

But his gone from super debt from the mortgage crisis to now, billions in surplus. That man knows how to get out of debt. And this is what America needs!

Lucylastic -> RE: why do people vote for donald trump (3/2/2016 5:13:26 AM)

FR
Applies to trumps base I think.

This article has it that Trump is now worth $10 billion less than if he’d simply invested in index funds. The suggestion is that given the huge head start he had from his father's money, Donald could have basically done better just by sitting on his inherited money.

He's had numerous failed business ventures.
I wouldn't rate him as a 'good' business person.

Why would anyone vote for him?
I have no idea at all given his failures.
But, it is true to say that many people are tired of tired old politics.
He's probably just as good (or bad) as any other clown they've thrown into the ring.

As for Greta's post#3, he'll run into the same old clap-trap nonsense that is called the congress.
If he wants something that they don't, he'll be stone-walled and it'll go nowhere fast.
It's been like that in US politics for the last two decades or more.
And they'll continue to kick the can down the road until it reaches crunch time... again.
The whole thing needs a radical shake-up right from the roots.
Can't see that happening any time soon tho.

Yea but investing in index funds does not create jobs for American people. Maybe he wants to do something that contributes to job creation too.

the news on the exit polling is because people are angry with the federal government and also they desire a political "outsider."

It does. Any capital invested does - unless it goes abroad, that is - and plenty of Trump's money *has* been invested abroad, whether well or badly.

MasterBrentC -> RE: why do people vote for donald trump (3/2/2016 3:39:00 PM)

What the dumbocrats and the repubican establishment fail to realize is that the majority of the American people do not like what has happened to this country for the past 20 or so years. Obama is just the latest one in a long line of liberals who has spent this country into oblivion. The past two mid-term elections has sent hundreds of Republicans to stop what Obama is doing a d the repubicans do nothing to stop him.

Therefore Donald Trump is a protest vote against the Dumbocrats and Repubicans to get this country back where we used to be.

Except Trump is, essentially one of those dumbocrats. If he wins, he'll be the only president in US history to have donated six-figures to his opponent (assuming Hillary). The man supports planned parenthood, single payer health care, eminent domain, the assault weapons ban, and recently proposed changing libel laws to chill free speech. He's a not just a big government type. He's a YYUUUGGEEE government type. If he's your protest against government, you HAVE to think the reason the government keeps failing is because it's not doing enough, and we need much, much more of it.

So far as I can tell, he's after the McCain voters. People who like angry RINOs. At the end of the day, Trump is the ULTIMATE "RINO."

And, like any and all investments (all done with the best of intentions....to have more when you stop than when you began), some pan out, others do not.

Bitch as much about the guy as anyone chooses to but.....if a guy invests 20 bucks (whether through stocks, real estate....whatever) and still has the original 20 bucks after a few years of trial and error....he's beat the odds of 85% of the population.

His numbers are just a smidge higher so....Presidential or not...I'm not the one to say.....but.....successful business person.....that one's pretty well in the books.

It seems to me that Americans actually admire stupidity in a way that's entirely exclusive to them and some weird aspect of American culture. The less educated they are, the less they're 'hampered' by intellectual abilities, the better. Only the USA could have made Forrest Gump and made it such that it was a smash hit at the box office. It looks *so* weird from outside of the USA, this meme of 'The less you know, the wiser you are'. Trump is as ignorant as pigshit about even very basic political matters, as well as mad as a mongoose.

At the very least everyone, the world over, needs a POTUS who is sharp, subtle and wise enough to be able to handle the frightening powder-keg that is the Middle East as it currently is. Trump is not the person to fill the job. He is a narcissistic, deranged loser who I wouldn't even trust to want to avoid WW3, never mind have the wit to do the right things to achieve that end. I heartily hope he gets bullied out of the race, entirely.

MasterBrentC -> RE: why do people vote for donald trump (3/2/2016 3:48:35 PM)

I didn't say I was a Trump supporter. Ted Cruz is my guy. I just answered the question why someone would vote for Trump.

Don't bet on that.

I'm a developer (on a very small scale, all things considered) and I donate to EVERY person running for office in my district/area.

You can be certain....If I "dun it".....on my scale....it's done every day on a much larger one.

Oh I'm sure you "invest" heavily in politicians. Especially the big government ones that want to involve themselves in everything you do.

But I said he'd be the first President to have donated six figures to his opponent. Not the first developer to go buy a politician.

Fair enough... but your suggestion is basically that people would vote for Trump because he's a cipher that people are projecting their own desires on rather than paying attention to what Trump is actually advocating and supporting.

Then again, this is what Obama was as well.
