I like that the very lifeblood that so many repubs subscribe to...corporations are people, free market capitalism works BUT it is now that very same group that is helping to stifle these bills(hopefully).
Tennessee is the latest to drop one of these stupid bills into the mix.
If the rethugs had a chance in the election they wouldnt be clouding the waters with all these other disgusting bills

That reminds me: I'm baffled by the sense of timing about all these bills. The presidential election is looming. I don't get it. A small percentage on the extreme right will be happy with these anti LGBT bills - but these would always be voting Republican anyway. Meanwhile, much larger numbers of waverers in the centre will be turned off. This seems like really pisspoor political strategy, to me.

God, American politics has become so polarised. It's so strange to watch, here on the outside of it all. I've never seen it look so tribal - and so damned *angry*.

Don't like Mississippi, don't visit.
Lots of good old boys, with Lot of old fashion beliefs.
I support their beliefs. They like their lives.
They like old fashion things. They hate any thing nasty bizarre they feel doesn't belong.
Just leave them alone.
But if you insist you will get your ass kicked.

Damnit - North Korea, Syria ... and now Mississippi. Well, thanks for the warning, CG.

Which are the most fruitcake-free states that I should visit in the USA?

Stay north of mason-dixon. You could go straight in and out of Atlanta, but thats about it.

That kinda limits you. Most of our fruitcakes are in California, New York, Chicago and other similar places.

Oh yeah. All of them are terrible. The whole state of Mississippi is sure to love that description. [8|]

I wouldn't worry, CG. From what I hear, most of them wouldn't understand it anyway.

Let's face it, those north of the mason Dixon line are pretty much what they describe southerners to be. As a Texan, Ted Cruz got his ass handed to him for discussing New York values. He's now paying the price and rightly so. The carpet bangers believe they are immune because they do things the proper way. They just whine when they get their ass handed to them in the south and then go home and tell people about how primitive things are in the south.

I just wonder if you realize the implications of these type of bills. Religious beliefs are not limited to gays. I am sure there are many Mississippians that think YOUR lifestyle to be against their beliefs... Would it bother you if you were, one of these days, denied food shelter or medical treatment because you are into BDSM?

I've refrained from commenting on this previously because I thought you were making respectful cogent points. I've made fringe points that didn't detract from you. But, you've asked. While I live in California, my family moved to the south in the 1730's. I have much greater fear of being harmed, denied food, shelter or medical treatment in New York City than I do in Mississippi. I once had a black friend who traveled extensively in the south for work. He told me, and I'm relating to you, that if you walk up to anyone in the south, smile and say, "How ya!" they'll all smile back and most probably give you the shirts off their back. I personally have that same impression, except being a white man in predominantly black neighborhoods. My understanding of the whole gay marriage cake baking things was that the gays pushed the point, just like the gays are driving people out of work and their lives for donating money to causes gays don't approve of. I personally don't have a problem with any specific lifestyle, I don't think the government should get involved. But, the militancy here didn't start with the good ol boys in Mississippi. I believe that the evangelical right has figured out they shouldn't push their doctrine down people's throats. Now I wish the gays would learn that as well. They have a Supreme Court decision. Now their just being petty. And as Ted Cruz learned about New York values, there'll be repercussions. Will Mississippi suffer repercussions as well? Most certainly. Will they feel it's worth it to cut off their nose to spite their face. Most certainly. I'm mean seriously, some Hollywood entertainment big shot publicly says he/she won't go to Mississippi. I have to laugh, do you think they care. They want fewer of those people there to begin with. They're probably happy about the reaction.

Oh as an aside, here in the people's republic of California, as a white male, if my sub goes to the doctor and the doctor sees marks on her, the doctor is required to call the police and have them investigate me. Even if it's consensual I can be thrown in jail. Similarly, at some point in time or another I bought perfectly legal rifles that the state then banned giving me the choice of being a felon or ridding myself of what I obtained legally and handled safely. Your bitch is just something that's scratching your hide. I have my own. The problem is the government yet all around me people want more government.

kdsub -> RE: Thoughts about backwoods Mississippi? (4/12/2016 3:20:56 PM)

But you did not answer my question... are you a member of the BDSM lifestyle? If people can deny service because of religious beliefs... and unless i am mistaken gays are not specifically listed as the only belief... then you do know that many Mississippians and Tennesseans would have the right to deny you service....And they most certainly would... Our lifestyle is against many religions principles and beliefs.

Butch

I think this year is interesting and could be historic. I think the left and the right could come together and all of us vote for a protest the establishment candidate. You vote for trump and you get praise from me. Stick it in the eye of the RNC. We people need to take our government back.
