But I thought feminism was about equality? Gotta larf! In feminist lenses, I guess dads are only good for child support and babysitting once mom gets a new boyfriend.

Awareness -> RE: Women's rights groups to rally against equal custody bill (4/9/2016 6:56:41 AM)

Nick, this is simply not possible. Peon keeps telling me that feminists do not do such things and are only interested in "blah, blah, blah... guacamola... equality of the sexes".

You should know by now that the National Organization for Women is not a feminist organisation. Peon has spoken.

Lucylastic -> RE: Women's rights groups to rally against equal custody bill (4/9/2016 7:12:21 AM)

Hey Im all for shared parenting, if there isnt an issue of violence, addiction and abuse. When I was growing up, mums stayed at home and raised the kids by and large, I too stayed at home, I worked outside and inside the house(paid job not"just being a mom", but only after they were all in school. (not kindergarten)
Im actually for alimony "depending" on the reason for divorce.

As far as if it can work, is more dependent on the lawyers billing hours not the tru needs of the family
Of course the reality of shared custody is a lot harder than some people can handle.
Weekend parents will get a nasty shock.

btw it might help if you posted a link to the actual bill thats being proposed.
https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2016/0668/ByVersion

Family Law; Requiring a court to consider certain alimony factors and make specific written findings of fact under certain circumstances; requiring a court to make specified findings before ruling on a request for alimony; specifying a premise that a minor child should spend approximately equal amounts of time with each parent; revising a finite list of factors that a court must evaluate when establishing or modifying parental responsibility or a parenting plan; prohibiting a court from changing the duration of alimony, etc.

But hey lets make it about women vs men, not parents being there physically or financially for their childrens needs

This is about feminists vs men Lucy, not women. Feminists do not get to co-opt unwilling women and call them feminists simply because they possess a vagina.

Feminists Lucy - not women - feminists.

I'll also point out that you've engaged in a typical deflection technique by talking about the bill. It's not the bill which is the focus of the story - it's the opposition of feminists (who can't possibly be feminists according to Peon) to a bill which attempts to ensure a child spends equal time with both parents.

This reflects the general trend of feminist organisations in particular and feminists in general opposing any legislation which aims to correct any imbalance which currently favours women.

Feminists, y'see, just don't like men all that much.

Feminists believe in equality of the sexes, Awareness, and if somebody announces that s/he believes in something that isn't about equality of the sexes, then s/he isn't supporting a feminist viewpoint.

Christ on a giraffe, do we have to do this over and over again?

Here is the standard definition of feminism. It is

"The belief that women are and should be treated as potential intellectual equals and social equals to men."

So, to sort out your comment to Lucy, you could have said, 'This is about women who believe that they are and should be treated as potential intellectual equals and social equals to men, vs men, Lucy, not *all* women'. And then you might want to go on to explain the nature of those women you are excluding from the definition of 'feminists' (and, if you feel like it, also explain why you like them so much. I for one would be fascinated in that.)

Your raging australianism lies behind everything you say, Nick. I've never really understood australianists, with their hatred of women and desire to kill them. Where does this come from? What made you become such an australianist in the first place?

I could have said a lot of things Peon. I didnt because Im sick to death of this utter tired bullshit.

I didnt say all women. I didnt mean all women, I didnt mean all women are feminists, I didnt say all women are mothers either(given that we are talking about parenting in a divorce). and I didnt mean all feminists.

I love men and Im a feminist.

I dont like idiots, of ANY gender.

Feminists believe in equality of the sexes, Awareness,
WRONG! You keep fucking this up and I'm really getting tired of correcting you.

Feminists believe in patriarchy theory. Feminists believe that men as a class have oppressed women as a class for untold generations. THAT is what feminists believe.

quote:

and if somebody announces that s/he believes in something that isn't about equality of the sexes, then s/he isn't supporting a feminist viewpoint.
You better go have a talk with the National Organisation for Women then dude, because this feminist organisation is opposing a measure to bring equality to the sexes.

Christ you're so fucking naive it, is, embarrassing.

quote:

Christ on a giraffe, do we have to do this over and over again?
Yes, we do. Until you get it and demonstrate some intellectual fucking honesty for once.

quote:

Here is the standard definition of feminism. It is

"The belief that women are and should be treated as potential intellectual equals and social equals to men."
That is NOT the definition of feminism, that is an alleged, desired outcome.

An ideology is more than its desired outcomes, it's the underlying philosophy behind its assessment of the status quo and its statement of what measures are necessary to achieve those stated outcomes. If you tried to define communism as "A Marxist theory which advocates class warfare with the intent of creating a society in which all property is publicly owned" you'd be pilloried for engaging in a shallow misrepresentation of a rather violent ideology.

Peon you don't get to make that claim, because you have no fucking idea what's in the heads of these women.

If the National Organisation of Women believes in social and legislative equality then why is it opposing a move to do exactly that? Your grandiose claims of what feminists want to achieve are nothing more than a smokescreen of lies and misdirection.

Either you're astonishingly intellectually dishonest or astonishingly naive and stupid. I don't know which is worse.

You know I dont normally get into fights with you Awareness,, by fights I mean debates thoughts, attacks, ideas, resolutions, about feminism and women in general.
Why?
because neither of us is going to change position. You are probably the ONLY anti feminist. I have any respect for. FWIW
The fact that it comes out short and to the point is the level of shit I give about your opinion on women or feminists, or dominant women.
That said, I can respect your intelligence on so many other things.

meh if you wanna conjugate all evening, I have other things to do...

No, they do not, Awareness. You need to go away and read. You *must*, at the very least, try to understand that you are not at home, now, barking away at your (imaginary) femsub who is saying 'yes, dear' to you, just to shut you up. Your knowledge of these matters is abysmal. You need to go away and read. All the pomp, bombast and snorting in the world is not a substitute for that. And, just for the record, even a whole page full of 'fuckings' from you won't make a difference either.

Please stop trying this with me, Awareness. I'm way, way too confident of what I know of this subject for any of it to work. You've skirted every attempt anyone's ever made to define 'feminism'. You want to rant and bellow in fury with, it seems, the deep-down belief that if you do it for long enough you'll eventually silence everyone else. It's not going to work. I *know* when I'm looking at the stuff of someone who doesn't know what he's talking about. I also *know* how much I know about this subject. Seriously - you need to take that on board. Now - either fuck off and do some reading, or shut up, there's a good chap.

Pathetic.

Awareness, I like girly girls and I admire womanly women. But boily boys get up my nose. Go away and read.

Awareness -> RE: Women's rights groups to rally against equal custody bill (4/9/2016 3:27:57 PM)

Your inculcation in - and regurgitation of - feminist dogma does not make you an expert. It makes you a fool.

bounty44 -> RE: Women's rights groups to rally against equal custody bill (4/9/2016 3:49:31 PM)

im not necessarily trying to play peacemaker, but you all might enjoy, find some worth and maybe even some fodder for conversation in reading about the first, second, third and (maybe?) fourth waves of feminism, as well as some of the "brands."

a pretty good overview here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feminism

I don't necessarily buy everything there, and its missing some things, but its a starting place.

my advisor in grad school was a radical lesbian feminist---ive had some "steeping" in the stuff.
