just heard.. way too young to go.. one of the more interesting musicians, imo, the person, the music, the artist,.. like Bowie, they did things the way they wanted to.. Prince seemed timeless to me..

I was never a "fan" of most of his music. It just wasn't my favorite genre, but I can say, as a musician, he was an extremely talented guitar player. It's too bad he's been so relatively silent for so long.

Michael

I'm not familiar with anything he has put out in 15-20 year's.
He certainly was an 80s and 90s, icon, superstar and trailblazer.
Many people aren't familiar with the artists Prince discovered, collaborated with or produced.

Michael

He put out 34 albums (thats about 1 every year), but he was a very private person, apparently, so he had rules for anyone that interviewed him or anyone that came to his home/compound... he wanted to keep his private life private and imo he accomplished that (which is probably why you/many people think he has been silent)..

He was very talented, imo his energy when performing was super high, very emotional, he became the music.. listening to his music or watching him in vids would give me shivers..

He just released a new one this year

Prince albums discography:
Studio albums 39
Live albums 4
Compilation albums 6
Video albums 17
Music videos 136
EPs 13
Singles 104
Remix albums 1

FR Today I heard that he has so much recorded music in the vault (thousands of songs) that there is enough material for an album to be released every year for at least the next hundred years.
Whoever will get the rights to the vault content will determine if they will ever see the light of day.

Apparently he would create different versions of each song he wrote and then pick the best one to put on his albums/CDs.. pretty amazing, I guess he was a bit of a perfectionist...

I grew up in the 80's. Prince was one of my idols along with Bowie. Having them both gone now has left me a shell this year. They both helped me to be a braver person as a shy teenager. Both helped to rev my creativity and made me want to be more ambitious in life. I'm still in shock from Bowie and now Prince on top of this just made my grief even worse.

I'm just in disbelief. I refuse to believe he's gone.....

Likewise Mouse, I literally just said today that I was pretty convinced that he and Bowie were immortal. It's been rough...

Purple Rain was the first movie, hubby and I saw together, even tho it was a couple of years after it came out.:) I have the album still from when it first came out.
Yesterday was Queen Elizabeths 90th birthday. Here in ontario, the horseshoe falls at Niagara falls were lit up purple (to celebrate her birthday), and in Toronto the CN tower was also lit up purple.
People over this side of the pond associated it as being a sign for the passing of Prince. I like to think that it worked for both, but for different reasons..the sad is heavy today. I also watched a clip of Van Jones talking about all the things he(Prince) did for charity annonymously.
His music and his work will live on.
