Interesting juxtaposition; emphases mine.

Nope, fascism is NOT a specific political philosophy.

Look you little leftist fuckwits, a fascists can be anyone acting like a fascists. it's not bound to political party or ideology. Anyone who is acting like a fascist (regardless what your beliefs are) is a fascist, pure and simple.

Merriam-Webster: Full Definition of fascism

1 often capitalized : a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition

2 : a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control <early instances of army fascism and brutality — J. W. Aldridge>

It helps if you've used MW enough to know to scroll past the "simple" definition from the Learner's Dictionary to the full one from the Collegiate.

And, of course, one can't touch on the F-word without invoking dear old Orwell.

Many political words are similarly abused. The word Fascism has now no meaning except in so far as it signifies "something not desirable."

The leftists just don't want to admit or they are too fucking thick to realise that their attitudes is exactly that!

It's the left who are totalitarians. It's the left who show extreme controlling behaviour. It's the left who uses violence against others who disagree. It's the left who bans others from universities from having different opinions. It's the left who will try to disturb and stop any conference or speech that isn't kowtowing their repulsive ideology.

The left just don't want to admit it that they are the real fucking fascists. If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck...

I have extreme passionate hate for people on the left for these behaviours that I just mentioned above. These people are fucking deranged. They are the ruination of western civilization. The west wont remain the best for long with leftists around shitting all over the place as they enforce privileges for women and minority groups and totally discriminating the fuck out of white men.

Leftists fuckwit freaks shout the loudest about sexism and racism, but total fucking irony, more than anything, it's them who are the most sexist and racist as they go on with their anti white male hating bigoted bullshit. Blaming white men for all the woes in the world. Blaming one demographic of people based on gender and race for all the woes in the world is nothing more than extreme hate.

These people are repulsive, disgusting, hypocritical, controlling, lying ,dirtbags that should get laughed at out of existence.

It's really quite embarrassing when an attempt at condescension fails utterly and backfires isn't it?

The point in dispute Phydeaux is not whether fascism has more than one meaning. The point in dispute is respectmens' specific claim that " fascism is NOT a specific political philosophy". The dictionary definition clearly shows fascism to be a specific political philosophy or ideology. Therefore respectmen's claim fails. It matters not an iota if 'fascism' has other meanings as well, the point in dispute was respectmen's claim and that claim alone.

So your sad attempt at justifying respectmen's failed claim fails and fails equally spectacularly. Is it too much to hope that you will take your own advice and " have the intellectual honesty to admit you're wrong"? I rather suspect it is too much to hope for but I would dearly love to be proved wrong.

This is from the Oxford English Dictionary.( my usual dictionary of choice.)
1.An authoritarian and nationalistic right-wing system of government and social organization.
Example sentences Synonyms
1.1(In general use) extreme right-wing, authoritarian, or intolerant views or practices:
(ex)this is yet another example of health fascism in action
(In general use) extreme right-wing, authoritarian, or intolerant views or practices:
(ex)this is yet another example of health fascism in action
(ex)Welcome to the authoritarian world of health fascism.
(ex)Getting drunk is mostly an exercise of choice, one of the few available in the current climate of health fascism.
(ex)On top of that, I'm probably indulging fascism, anti-Semitism and snottiness.
Synonyms
Synonyms of fascism in English:
noun

1 a film depicting the rise of fascism in the 1930s
authoritarianism, totalitarianism, dictatorship, despotism, autocracy;
Nazism, rightism;
nationalism, xenophobia, racism, anti-Semitism;
jingoism, isolationism;
neofascism, neo-Nazism

The term Fascism was first used of the totalitarian right-wing nationalist regime of Mussolini in Italy (1922–43); the regimes of the Nazis in Germany and Franco in Spain were also Fascist. Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one national or ethnic group, a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach

Origin

1920s: from Italian fascismo, from fascio 'bundle, political group', from Latin fascis (see fasces).

I must say that I like the OED too. Easily my dictionary of choice.

With respect to one of the points of contention above, the OED is unambiguous in defining fascism as right wing (usually extreme right wing) phenomenon. Hopefully this will put an end to the laughable attempts by some of our looney Right posters to smear the Left with the claim that fascism is a left wing phenomenon.

I say 'hopefully' as I write this more in hope than anticipation. Our looney Right posters have distinguished themselves in the past by proving themselves to be impervious to fact. So I fear another piece of compelling evidence demonstrating fascism to be an exclusively Right wing phenomenon will prove to be less than compelling with our looney Rightwingers.

One has to admire the industry and diligence they display in earning and preserving the 'looney' part of their looney right epithet. Such a shame that it isn't put to a more worthwhile endeavour.

No, whats clear is that you can't read, and that you attempt to your favorite preconception into the clearly written meaning.

Lets highlight the important bits, shall we?

1.1(In general use) extreme right-wing, authoritarian, or intolerant views or practice.

Notice the words 'OR". It means that facism can mean merely intolerant and authoritarian. Well, like you, for example.

Further notice the example quoted. In fact the very FIRST example noted:

quote:

(ex)this is yet another example of health fascism in action
Pretty much the poster child for left wingers now isn't it. Regardless, it perfectly supports the usage of fascism merely as authoritarian, and intolerant.

Of course, Lucy left out the bits that didn't fit her preconceived notions. Ie., notice that she left out
"Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one national or ethnic group, a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach." Gee, no mention of right wing.

In ancient Rome the fasces were the bundle of rods, with an axe through them, carried in front of a magistrate as a symbol of his power to punish people. Gee, no mention of right wing there. In fact the entire essence of it - seems to be the ability to punish people.

While we're at it lets go to the OED for another definition:

OED: Fascist: "A person who is very intolerant or domineering "

You liberals knew that RM and myself used the word correctly; you knew the dictionary definition was correct. You lied in the application of the definition of definition from the OED, as nearly as I can tell merely to smear other people.

Pretty much doing what liberals always do. If you don't want to be compared to other fascist organizations - stop acting like them.

So ... if Tweakabelle and anybody on the left (including myself, for example) is a fascist, then - per RM's handy way of defining these things, i.e. 'fascism is what fascists do' ... fascism is anything us lefties do?

Just wondering .....

yet you missed out the head of the list.....1.

BT way according to post 31 http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=4908862
I exactly stated
quote:

"Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one national or ethnic group, a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach."

who is the liar?
you have bollocks for brain cells

Yes, amusing that she edited her post after my comments, eh.

Since you seem not to understand how dictionaries work, either of you, let me explain.

Proper usage occurs when the word is used in conformance with any definition.

Hence when you any Lucy are described as fascists [ intolerant, authoritarian] not to mention rude and impolite it is, indeed perfectly in accordance with standard definitions -as established by three dictionaries, to date.

So if you have a quarrel with being described as a fascist either change your conduct, or take it up with the oed. And Miriam. And dictionary.com and random and......
