ORIGINAL: Nnanji Hum, earlier you said this: If you want me to take you seriously as somebody who seeks to counter the science with science, you might want to start by toning down your extravagant claims of opponents perpetuating a myth, as well as the personal insults that usually only get trotted out when an argument has nothing of substance to support it. Not that you have any objectively linked science on which to base your claims, which is why you always fall back on offensive language and attempts at intimidation via half-truths and self-reassuring bromides. Now you say this: quote:
ORIGINAL: markyugen As for Dr. Woodcock’s statements, he is welcome to present his findings about global warming to peer-reviewed scientific journals and see how much traction they get within the scientific community just like every other scientist does. The fact that I am unable to find any other scientists confirming his claims and following up on them with verifiable research either means there is a huge conspiracy of silence among his nefarious, money-grubbing peers, or else he is simply part of the 3% of outliers that don’t think MMGW is real and thus doesn’t really deserve much of my attention. This is not to say that his views don’t deserve to be respected, but until the pendulum swings in his favor, I don’t see why I, as a member of the non-scientific public who approaches this subject as objectively as I can, should take his opinion more seriously than the vast, thunderous majority of scientists who disagree with him. I guess you named yourself. Wow! I hadn't realised that marknguyen is a paid up member of the " huge conspiracy of silence among his nefarious, money-grubbing peers". I haven't seen any evidence of this conspiracy, but now that I am assured by one of our looney Right posters that it exists, I want to join it. How do I join it? How much $ will I make when I join it? Are there any qualifications needed (apart from a desire to pass off the great global warming conspiracy and its sister conspiracy, the great secret leftist conspiracy to redistribute the world's wealth by getting scientific grants to ensure the ongoing success of the first conspiracy ...) When do we start redistributing the world's wealth? I can't wait for that - it sure sounds like fun! When do I get my first grant? The only things you have to do is, do your own research, show facts, think logically and then wait for those above mentioned to come back with "fool! The world has never been this hot before/had this much carbon in the air before!!!", throw in a few well researched graphs showing exactly the opposite and then wait for them to debase you (personally....not your facts), demanding links (because they don't know how to use the data available to them, so they need to be spoon fed) "or....you're an idiot"....and then say things like "why does it matter who's causing it? Can't we now do better?" and then wait for the required: "so....you think we should pay more for everything because of a few scientists who obviously know nothing". (Explaining to them that "no one at this time truly knows anything, so....why not plan a smidge ahead and do some precautionary things?" is largely wasted breath). It's an impossible debate to win because they simply want to be right. More importantly, they want you to be wrong. Well, and we use facts instead of hateful opinion...as you demonstrated rather well yesterday. Well except for one important perspective. The earth may have very likely had as much or more CO2 in the atmosphere going back to ancient times and science will tell you that there was a whole lot more CO2 in the atmosphere then but no life yet. But if one goes back even only to say, CroMagnon and Neanderthal, they...didn't give a fuck. All they were doing was fart'n in the wind. IF it is fact that the earth was born with a whole lot more CO2 than has ever been present since and it was, then for all we know, earth may have still have been creating its natural carbon cycle and the ensuing reduction in CO2 since those ancient times, maybe what just as well be in fact, earth was then arriving at (getting down to) its normal carbon cycle. I mean how in the fuck do we know unless we look at every millennia ? The fact that since then, humankind and only in the last couple hundred years or so, a mere blip on the archaeological clock, has been adding billions of tons of CO2 into the atmosphere is additional to what we think maybe the natural carbon cycle, could be an aberration of the over all historical carbon cycle or even if we are just replicating what nature did since those ancient high levels, that still could be cause for extreme caution. And that is because now there is world wide industry continuing to spew billions more tons of CO2 into the atmosphere and there are now 7 billion of us...fart'n in the wind.
