I didn't, as a matter of fact.

And to think, you could have badgered me all night how stupid I was for not doing that myself, ...

Ah well, the greatest atrocities are those we deed to our own cupboard.

Not betting at the right time, etc. We just bring all this turmoil upon ourselves, do we not?

WhoreMods -> RE: NBA Player Baltantly Disrespects Canada (5/9/2016 9:15:21 AM)

That we do.
Given what this forum is about, it's disturbing to think that back at the start of the season Kim Kardashian standing for the American Presidency actually had better odds than Leceister winning...

I am putting this here because it does have political implications.

Dwyane Wade has been the resident star of the Miami Heat
for several years. He is one of the all time great basketball
guards. He apparently also has that incredible sense of
superiority and entitlement typical of the worst athletes.

http://www.cbssports.com/nba/eye-on-basketball/25581126/watch-dwyane-wade-takes-practices-jumpers-during-canadian-anthem

The last time a player disrespected an anthem in the NBA
he was suspended. That was 1996.

http://articles.latimes.com/1996-03-13/sports/sp-46409_1_mahmoud-abdul-rauf

I think Wade's denial of being disrespectful is dismissible. I know
what he said, I believe his behavior.

It will be interesting to see what, if anything, happens in this case.
The next game is scheduled to be played in Toronto.

Inexcusable behavior!

When you are in Canada, you are REPRESENTING the United States of America. Don't care how much the dude makes in a year; stand there and be respectful. The player should be benched following an inquiring to his removal.

Being a good sportsmen means standing and showing respect for the other team's home anthem/song.

How Canadians show respect towards America

I hesitate to put it this way, because I've never before preceded a statement with a statement like "I take great pride in ..."

So give me a moment, here ... (ahem)

"I take great pride in the fact that I have NO idea who Kim Cartesian is."

Haven't watched TV but maybe ten-fifteen times in five years, don't go to 'entertainment' sites on the internet, etc.

I see the name all the time in the racks at the checkout line in the grocery store. Does she have a line of Kardashian sweaters or something?

No, wait ... is her name Kim Kardigan?

I am so bad with names.

WhoreMods -> RE: NBA Player Baltantly Disrespects Canada (5/9/2016 9:28:27 AM)

Trust me on this one: you're a lot better off not knowing.

Edwird -> RE: NBA Player Baltantly Disrespects Canada (5/9/2016 9:52:25 AM)

I get that feeling, which is why seeing her name plastered everywhere when buying groceries made me want to avoid whoever it was like the plague you and apparently numerous others consider her to be.

I am not always the most trusting fellow, but since you demanded that of me ...

Ms. Kardigan be damned, I am now moving forward in life, thanks to your sagacious advice.

Edwird -> RE: NBA Player Baltantly Disrespects Canada (5/9/2016 9:55:37 AM)

Next thing you know, I'd be watching "reality" shows all day, or something.

SO easy to fall into that trap.

I'm hoping Canada elects Obama, since they like him so much.

Actually we don't like him much at all, too right wing for our tastes. WE just dumped our version of Obama in our last election.

There is no national anthem that musically comes close to 'good music'

I always get a kick out of people who claim to be able to dictate what is and what isn't "good music", as if their personal taste somehow has universal applicability.

How about those who can understand the phenomena with out recourse to 450+ words from a sociologist?

In any case, the US and Canada (because of having teams in leagues based in the US) are the only ones who have the 'national anthem' for every game in all commercially national sports.

The inherent militarism and 'national pride' invoked in most anthems are things that other countries don't wish treat so cavalierly or so inconsequentially.

Right. Because reading hurts. Facts are so elitist.

As far as I am concerned, when it comes to the NBA, if it was dissolved, we could save a whole lotta oil.

I'm not following the link to oil use.

I'm a die-hard (American) football fan. All other sports exist solely to get me from the Super Bowl to NFL preseason and the start of the NCAA seasons.

We wouldn't use the fuel to transport them for their games.

At least 80% of all you mention has already been done, the last two NFL seasons especially. And yes, of course it's advertising and good marketing, exactly as I was pointing out. I think there are/were at least 6-8 guys each on the Panthers and Falcons teams alone involved in the wounded warrior program (with out the military paying for it), which I'm sure is typical of most teams. But I like the guys buying the land and all the slides and swings for a new playground for the dinky little town in Georgia they grew up in even better. Am I anti-patriot for that? Are they? Are all the inner city "keep kids in school," after school programs and such, taking away in dollars and in time, what should be going to the military, if these guys were real patriots? We have to keep in mind, too, that roughly 50% of charitable works by pro athletes are done somewhat 'under the table' because they get sick and tired of accusations of 'just doing it for the cameras,' and/or wishing to respect the privacy of some of those benefited.
They aren't, however, merely advertising for recruits; they are selling justification. Or lack for need of such in the first place, to be honest about it.
What I have issue with is 'enforced patriotism,' in whatever form or by whatever method. I am not enamored of myself or anyone else being accused of "hating our country" if we prefer our sports with out having direct military tie-in foisted upon us in the process. Keep in mind that those against a particular foreign policy or especially a military action invoked thereby are not, by that disagreement alone, "anti-military."
So while we're at it, being 'pro military' with out regard to cause or consequence considered is far from my idea of patriotism. And I don't like the 'pro-militarism = patriotism' thing (along with the 'overtly implicit' converse of that. "whoa! I'm not a patriot!").

Actually, very little of it is happening.

The NFL doing this big thing, and individual teams and/or players doing things for their local/hometown areas is very different. Having 6 (or whatever number) doing things for the WWP isn't the NFL doing it; it's the players doing it (which I think is awesome).

There are a handful of NFL teams that don't change their helmets for "throwback" games. This is because it would require a completely different helmet be used, and with the concussion thing, it's just not going to happen, as each player has a helmet customized for him. Why on Earth they can't customize another helmet, I don't know, but, there it is. The Buccanneers, Patriots and Cowboys all use current helmet designs rather than throwback because the entire shell of the helmet would have to be changed.

Well, Joether, you really need to catch up with the times. The game was in Miami, not Toronto (not that that excuses the behavior).

well,.. i cant help but think he is just upholding Trump's "America First" theme.. [8|]

There was an article on Trump recently that referred to him as defining "The Ugly American",.. considering how many have sung Trump's praises, voted for him, jumping for joy to meet/see him, etc.. I expect to see a whole lot more disrespect being shown by such Americans to the rest of the world..

Wow. That's one hell of a stretch just to bitch about Trump.

its a trend that Trump is leading... I see/read how people really feel in various forums & comments to articles, there is a lot of disrespect, hate and outright lies presented as "facts".. it all makes me cringe.. While I know not all Americans are like that, I fear they are becoming a minority.. I think this trend will only grow, especially with the next economic downturn (which is inevitable)..

ONLY to a politico fuckwit would this 'action' have any "-political implications-." What? we gonna defend ourselves against Canadian bombs or economic sanctions, now?

I'm hoping that it does have "political implications". I hope Canada does like Michigan did vís-à-vís North Carolina. I hope they bar all un-necessary travel to the U.S.

That'll fix our wagon! Uh-huh!

Michael

It may not matter to you but it does to border towns.. when I lived in Vancouver, Blaine & Bellingham were near ghost towns & really hurting when Canadians stopped crossing (due to bad exchange rates &/or 9/11 making border crossing long & troublesome, etc)... I remember being down in Bellingham and an American had a nasty message re Canadians on his vehicle.. that one thing really changed my perspective of Americans, which is why i dont tell anyone that I am not one of them (other than on this forum), I let everyone go ahead & think I am American.. Its funny when someone asks me who i am gonna vote for (I just say I dont vote, both parties are terrible)..

Actually, it's a trend that the left has been leading since the 1960's.

Or does that estimation come from being able to plunk it out on an electric bass through a 200 watt amplifier, after saying to your buddy, "here, hold my beer"?

How very Alinsky of you. You know sweet fuck-all about me, but you're willing to slander and ridicule.

Let me disabuse you of some of your bullshit:

1) I don't drink beer ... EVER

2) I assume, since you're such a music critic, that you've heard of the New York City High School of the Performing Arts? Some call it "Julliard Prep"? I was accepted there, when I was 14 years old.

Get your shit together, Mr. Alinsky.

Michael
