Like seriously! I am soooo curious how did the airport security fuck up so bad? I can imagine their airport security should technically tightened after their recent attacks. Did someone really get a bomb on board? Or there is even speculation that ISIS shot it down. They have such weapons?

As it's unraveling...., really curious about the conclusions.

While it could have been mechanical failure, someone getting in the cockpit is more likely (like the one in March). Although there was that Russian plane recently as well. . .

I think it would be prudent to refrain from speculating about the cause of the plane's disappearance until more facts are known. It could be terrorism. It could be mechanical failure. It could be human error. It could be any one of a whole heap of things.

It's best to wait until the cause has been identified before commenting.

Every expert aviation analysis I've listened to so far, are saying can't be mechanical failure or human failure. Highly unlikely.

Is that because CNN is played in all of the airports?

I hadnt thought about that, but they seem to focus longer than any cable org, over missing plane stories.

"It turned 90 degrees left and then a 360-degree turn toward the right, dropping from 37,000 to 15,000 feet and then it was lost at about 10,000 feet."

Egyptian Aviation Minister Sherif Fathi said: "Let's not try to jump to the side that is trying to identify this as a technical failure - on the contrary.

"If you analyse the situation properly, the possibility of having a different action, or having a terror attack, is higher than the possibility of having a technical [fault]."

[BBC]

Not that I'm any aviation expert, but that 90 degree turn, followed by a 360 degree turn, plus dropping so much ... that does seem like a very, very big technical or pilot error.

That doesn't sound like pilot error.
Why would the pilot do that?
Something had to be wrong before the first turn.
This, of course, doesn't tell us if it was terrorism or not, the black box should help a lot.

As of right this minute (7:25pm UK time), nothing is conclusive.

The Egyptian authorities are saying that there is no indication at all of what has happened other than they appear to favour terrorist activity over anything else but stress that it is only a supposition so far.

Up until now, they have ruled out that it was shot down by any small arms or even ground-based rocket launchers (too high for hand-held and too far away for big stuff).

The aircraft visited several airports where an explosive device could have been smuggled on board so fingers can't be pointed at any country/airport security as yet.
So to accuse anyone just yet would be severely jumping the gun and unfounded.

Mechanical failure hasn't been ruled out either.
But considering the Airbus A320 has an exemplory safety record and is the most numerous of aircraft on the planet, it would imply that this would be unlikely.

The last communication with the crew from the Egyptian air traffic control was ordinary.
Both the pilot and co-pilot were extremely experienced so there is no indication that either of them did what happened in France recently.

So far - it's an open book.
Speculation is running rife but so far there is no substance to anything.

ETA (update) as of 8pm UK time: the 'wreckage' found near the greek islands is NOT part of an aircraft.

Pshaw! Not to worry. If it is terrorism the Trumpmeister will negotiate a hard bargain with the culprits or he will bomb the shit out of them and America will be Great again.

They need to investigate the pilots, as so far, the name of the main pilot sounds totally Muslim.
France is now also investigating every ground crew who had any contact with the plane. IF a bomb was smuggled in, they suspect not by passengers.

Satellite imaging shows no blast. And there was another plane flying only 2000 ft above this plane concurrently, and he said it was dead peaceful and quiet.

Debris now also no longer belonging to the plane.

This is turning into like that Malaysian one. Vanish without a trace.

It was an Egyptian airline wasn't it?
The lack of a bomb doesn't prove it wasn't terror.
We still need more info.

Really? A person with a Muslim sounding name flying an Egypt Air plane? Now that is suspicious!

Anybody who is a Muslim needs to be investigated if he has subscribed to ISIS Islamic beliefs.

Even when Malaysian airplane happened, Malaysia is a Muslim country and they openly also investigated him for ISIS links, their government openly said that they investigated to check if he ever had communication with ISIS. It was one of the first thing they did. So that cleared the guy of ISIS links, which is good. Even Muslims themselves will do it. It's just sensible to do so. But with the Malaysian pilot specifically, he was devoted to an opposition leader, that was the result of that investigation to what key links he had. Malaysia jailed the opposition leader for sodomy, and this pilot was his huge supporter, it was rumoured that, he held all the passengers hostage to demand the release of Anwar, the opposition leader. And the government did not agree to his request so he crashed the plane as threatened. Of course the Malaysian government denies this.

Two planes have disappeared without a trace, and both were manned by Muslim pilots. Just saying, what a coincidence.

Liscouski and McGann cite the incident aboard a flight that left Mogadishu in Somalia on February 2. Two airport workers were able to get a laptop containing an explosive device through an X-ray checkpoint. They handed it to a man who was due to fly out on a Turkish Airlines flight. When that was canceled, he left on another flight for Djibouti.
A passenger was sucked out of this seat following explosion on a flight that left Somalia in February.

Twenty minutes into the flight, the laptop exploded, blowing a large hole in the fuselage. The man carrying the laptop was sucked out of the plane.

Seriously...., you can easily get a laptop modified to explode? WOW! Now, this is scary!

In November last year, an airport employee allegedly helped smuggle a bomb on board a Russian Metrojet airliner at Sharm el-Sheikh airport in Egypt, though Egyptian authorities say no one has been arrested or charged in connection with the attack.
Russian plane crashes in Egypt
That bomb -- placed on an Airbus A321, exploded soon after the plane reached its cruising altitude; all 224 people on board were killed. Within hours, the ISIS affiliate in Egypt claimed responsibility.

AND THIS!

There has been a history of radicalization among airport workers at Charles de Gaulle Airport.
A French Interior Ministry document in 2004 said there were "illegal prayer sites at the airport used by several Muslim airport workers" who at the time "belonged to mosques preaching radical Islam."
Some of these workers had access to what is known as "airside" -- the aprons beyond security checkpoints -- and were "known by intelligence services as radicalized individuals and who are under a fiche S" -- a designation by French law enforcement to flag someone who could be a security threat.
The document said it was "particularly difficult to monitor every single temporary airport worker."

You can remove the circuits and replace them with plastic.

You can easily modify a role of toilet paper to explode.
