I agree with that, except in those marriage where the couple agree that one will stay home and raise their kids, most often the woman. During those years the stay-at-home's employable skills become obsolete and their ability to earn a living is diminished, the more so the longer the time at home. I've also seen plenty of marriages in which the higher earning man requires the wife to remain unemployed even without kids. In those 2 scenarios, I think the income of the person whose job skills have been kept current during the marriage needs to support the other to balance that out. But absent those types of agreements, I'd agree that payments post marriage are bullshit. Though I can tell you from first hand knowledge that men when they are the lower earners demand alimony too in the divorce arena. It's just less common for "him" to be the lower earner, though that is changing with time.

Well said, I have far more financial "stability" than most, and I bring that to the table, along with everything else. It's not that we're paying for a relationship. We're playing all of the cards in our hand. With all other things being equal, have material wealth and stability is just another edge that I might have, over another potential candidate.

One of the major reasons I dumped my ex was cuz he stopped wanting sex, and for me, I need the physical closeness I get from sex and that intimacy to keep love alive and replenished.. once love disappears you are just roommates.. who needs that? And in the case of my ex, when we split up I didnt demand anything from him, no "payment" at all (finally getting away was all I needed)..
