ORIGINAL: DesFIP The Man has a master's in engineering plus a MBA from Wharton, earned together. But his spelling and grammar are not at that level. So I proof read stuff for him frequently. My eldest had a spelling exemption in school, and has her Mensa card. My mother in law used to run one of the top horse breeding operations on the East Coast and is dyslexic. There's no way to announce that an inability to spell means a person is of low intelligence. Crazy isn't it! When Steve and me got to know each other on here, his spelling was questionable, but when I spoke with him on the phone, there was no doubt about his intelligence. He's a nuclear physicist so his attention to detail is way ahead of mine. This is a man who's linguistic skills often have me stopping him mid sentence because I don't understand some of the words he's using. There is one thing I can do better than him and that's spell. We both have dyslexia, mine is auditory, his is surface dyslexia but its stopped neither of us going to university or having good careers. Interestingly, we are extroverts who both practice extreme sports to get our thrills and when it comes to BDSM, we have done some shockingly naughty things. Research has found that spelling and grammar pedants tend to be introverts. Eysenckâs theory was that extroverts have just a slightly lower basic rate of arousal. The effect is that they need to work a little harder to get themselves up to the level others find normal and pleasant without doing anything. Hence the need for company, seeking out novel experiences and risks. Conversely, highly introverted individuals find themselves overstimulated by things others might find merely pleasantly exciting or engaging. A spelling mistake is like a stone in their shoe.
