the sum in question is 2500 Swiss Francs per month, not 2500 $

Not from every report I've read: "While The Finns consider a "basic monthly income" for the entire population, Swiss residents are to vote on a countrywide referendum about a radical plan to pay every single adult a guaranteed income of around $2500 per month, with authorities insisting that people will still want to find a job".
Anyways, it's not much different from swiss francs. (US$2500 = CHR2448 at current rate).

just wanted to say the 2014 referendum link might answer most of your questions

geography is hardly of importance in that issue, and the juridical situation is a bit complicated but there are lots of regulations already

I hope Swiss actually makes this go through, because we need one country to be a guinea pig to see if this is positive or negative for the country.

1) We've already had the gunea pig countries

and

2)Have you read the study done by the college professor who graded by average? The spoungers don't try at all and the achievers eventually give up.

I haven't (seen the study), though I'm not surprised, because they're kids. If they thought about their future, if they understood the importance of skills vs. grades (which are, in fact, largely meaningless), how the professor graded would (and should) make no difference.

Similarly with the base anti-poverty income. It's less than half of what I'm comfortable on, and I live in rural NYS, with a partner who also brings home more than that. I certainly wouldn't want to stake on that for economic reasons. I also wouldn't enjoy going through life without doing something interesting and significant, for which I'm generally paid well (as a reflection of its value to society...or at least selected members of society).

So if someone has a child mentality and skates because this means they won't have to work, that's sad. It happens.

But I doubt the majority of adults are so childish. Most have passions and purpose and dreams and goals.

And work for them.

Just cuz thats the culture & way things are in the US doesnt mean the Swiss have that same (spounger) culture or way of doing things..

According to what i have read, the income inequality in Switzerland is mostly due to women working only part-time while men work full-time.. and according to this site (CIA info), in 2010, Switzerland has 6.9% of the population under the national poverty line where the US has more than double that at 15.1% of the population under the national poverty line.. Considering that the US touts its "opportunities" to go from rags to riches, which of the countries has the "spounger" culture?

It's not a clear experiment to represent how it would work out if a country really implement it.

FR~

Well, its been rejected but that was the expected outcome, apparently.. one reason cited was that they didnt want "billions" of people trying to move there.. I have read that Finland & Netherlands are implementing some trial version of the concept in the future tho, sometime in 2017..
