We are already in a world war, it is just that too many of us refuse to accept that fact.

Oh, I am not. And that's a fact.

And I wonder who "we" could be. You and you and ...?

The fact that you don't think you are won't help when the next terror strike comes. You are one of the people who doesn't understand that they are at war with the western world, whether we fight back or not.

Oh I understand very well about madmen being at war with whatever but I keep the privilege of a sane mind.

All I see is hero and hate talk wherever I look. Less of that would be a good first step to less terrorism.

Then you don't understand the enemy. Regardless of what you want they will be at war with you till one of 3 things happens

A You convert to thier version of Islam
B You are dead
C They are dead

When you understand this maybe your view will change, or will you convert?

No I have no intention of conversion, and I do think death is not a solution neither for me nor for "them" (whoever "they" are in your opinion), but also neither imminent nor likely. Can't you think of any other option?
Maybe like talking to those muslims who hate these IS killers even more than you and me? You don't know any of these I gather, and they might probably not wish to talk to the likes of you if death threats and hero talk is all they get. Could you talk to those people? Do you speak any of their languages?

Just wondering what "understanding the enemy" could be in your opinion ...

The enemy, the Islamic Jihadists who are not just willing but eagar to kill any and all of us who do not convert to thier verson of Islam. And yes, I do talk to those Moslems who represent the majority. They hate the Jihadits, I don't hate, they want to destroy everything that they don't completly agree with.

They would have you flogged just for your avatar.

We could agree on most points no doubt - I would say the most important thing is to drain and cut the support to those jihadi madmen. Latest news sounded like IS is on the retreat. There have been a few threads a few months ago with lengthy discussions about that, and who directly or indirectly supports IS and who fights (and why), and who suffers.

Our (I mean the "western" states this and that side of the pond) real problem is that some of the most important IS supporters are also our "allies" ... and - between you and me - there is and will be no war against those, not now, not in the foreseeable future.

Three attacks in the last week but the politicians tell us that ISIS is in reatreat so they must be.

By the same token Bama, there are a fair number of non-muslims who are eager to kill any and all muslims I'm thinking. A lot of them have never been directly affected by muslims, probably not met one and possibly wouldn't know one if they fell over one in the street.
That is really not a good basis for any kind of negotiation.

I have stated repeatedly that the Jihadists are a minority,
that they have murdered more Moslems than westerners,
and that more of them have been killed by the more moderate Moslems than by the rest of the world put together.
By no means do I lump all Moslems together, I regularly talk to one who agrees that
A these Jihadists are heretics
B that one minute before the planes hit the towers the next 90 seconds were the best thing those people had to look forward to.....for eternity.

I have also brought up acts of heroism by Moslems, for example when they attacked the resort in North Africa last year the staff, all Moslem, stood between them and a group of guests and told the terrorist that they would have to kill the Moslem staff to get to the guests, and it worked.

yes Bama, I know YOU have stated they are in the minority, but there are a lot of half-wits, fuck-wits and nitwits around who are just looking for an excuse, any excuse, to hurt harm or kill and muslims are now a pretty good target because they are so visible in many cases. Not just jihadists but muslims. These clowns don't care because they have made up their own minds that what they are doing is RIGHT

That is a big part of the problem, if we don't fight back we lose

As long as we target them at the right Moslems, and I by no means mean someone they see walking down the street that they take a dislike to, but really wouldn't they be a good segment of the population for our casualties to come from. Deal with our enemies and improve our society at the same time.

It's difficult to accurately target somebody who walks, talks, speaks and acts just like everybody else in the street. The Legion had that problem in Indo-Chine and Algerie and I believe the Americans had a similar problem in Viet Nam and in the M.E. now. Didn't the war cry go out " Waste them all and let god sort out the good ones", or something along those lines ? Well, I believe that may be the thinking of the half-wits that I mentioned previously

Kill them all, God will know his own.
Took place in Germany.
Troops of the Holy Roman Empire had taken a town that had been "infested" with heritics.
This was the Bishops answer when asked how his men were to know who to execute.

VeitNam and Algeria was nothing compared to being a Union Soldier in Mo during the Civil war. Many said that there were 11.5 Confederate states, the 11 official ones and Mo at night.

So much for the muslims/jihadists being murdering bastards !!! *smile*.......................yes, the citizens of MO were really in the ' brother fighting brother' arena, weren't they ? What a shit fight. I think my preferred posting would have neen as an embassy guard in some place like New Zealand ( if they had an embassy there then *smile*). I have a nylon kneecap, a Forrest Gump wound in my ass (Chad), blind in one eye, enough metal holding my ankle together to build a C47(bad para-jump) and a medium serious case of PTSD (West Africa). I don't think I would be much good in anybody's war. It would take a half dozen of me to make one whole soldier !!!

Sorry to hear about all of those injuries, sounds like you got some rough duty.

One of the two Confederate leaders burned Lawrence Kansas in about 63
Members from his and Quantrells groups form the James/Younger gang, and in thier minds were fighting the war until 76. And it was the worst kind of war.

Bama...................There ain't no easy duty in the Legion *smile*. Ah well, shouldn't sign on if you can't take a joke *LOL*.

Yes, I have a number of books here on the Civil War, as well as couple on the English one too......................I would cheerfully have shot my elder brother, regardless of which side he was on, but at the same time, I can see what it would do to families and communities. I saw it in West Africa to a greater or lesser degree and those boys really don't mess around when they go on a killing spree. Thank the million gods the one that hit me was a lousy shot *smile*.

Your brother must have been a jerk. I have several cousins like that, you don't so much want a reason as and excuse.
That is the French Forgiegn Legion, or is there an Austrailan Legion?
Shame the guy wasn't a worse shot.

Le Legion Etrangere...................French Foreign Legion and yes, he WAS a jerk. Possibly still is. I haven't seen him in 20 years and haven't really missed him.
My wound came about because of my height. There was a lot of shit flying around and I dived into a hole that was just a little too small. I figured I would need my head and my legs and feet very shortly, so guess what ? My rump became the target. Thank the gods it wasn't a grenade *LOL*. Anyway, I spent a few weeks on my face and my comrades got a good laugh out of it. I got my own back by taking them a big chocolate cake ( frosted with ex-lax)
