Next they'll compare spewing bullets to sneezing on someone to kill them with a virus.

Japan's culture is different than ours.

Evidently: Japan isn't full of infantile paranoid imbeciles.

Well one thing we do know about Japan. If any of those people are around, they don't have assault weapons or much in the way of guns like in the US and certainly can't exercise their infantile paranoid imbecilities on others with such weapons.

They do, however, have a good few mass murders with knives, as does China.

Care to compare the body counts these knife wielding Japanese mass murderers manage, as compared to the trivial numbers a comparable American mass murderer can manage with a gun?
How many of these Japanese mass murderers stabbed 49 people to death before being apprehended?

Their body counts are more on the order of magnitude of what we saw in San Bernardino, but that's mostly a matter of planning and execution. One notable one was done with a kitchen knife at a school. Think of the children!

Ah, my knowledge came from discussing it with a person from there and is admittedly old. I understood, or it was explained to me, that ammo was issued to them yearly and they were expected to shoot it to stay proficient. Additionally, when everyone knew that everyone had a rifle in the house, it tended to discourage breakins and actually did "use the gun to keep the family safe." Much like studies here have found that places that are liberal issuing concealed carry permits tend to have violent crimes drop because the criminals aren't sure who is a victim and who is armed.
So then why is the US murder rate (per million people) more than 4 times that of Australia? Why is the country with all the guns so much less safe? Why do the majority of shootings occur in legal carry areas whereas only 17% occur in gun-free zones? Why is the rape rate roughly the same as Australia's? Surely all those women carrying should be frightening off would-be rapists, right?

There was a greater gap in the U S and Australian murder rates before your draconinan gun laws.

Musicmystery -> RE: International study of gun control finds strong evidence it works (6/15/2016 2:32:21 PM)

Well, I for one am against knifing children at school. What's the problem?

Btw, did the killer use an automatic knife that lets him kill dozens of children all at once from a distance?

Because those, I'd support banning.

Not to mention Australia which now after 20 years, there has seen no such mass shootings as we see in the US and a 50% decline on gun violence.

Face it kinkroids, we have a strong, rich, gun lobby and a plutocracy that sells out to that gun lobby in the NRA and a...gun loving culture in the US that feels it necessary to have such guns whose only purpose is...to kill many people.

Results are in. You get 15 mass shootings in less than 8 years and 103 people killed or wounded in one short attack.

Or so we're told, by the mass media...which makes the information highly suspicious.

Yea, I know. Reuters is always lying through their presses. HERE

Philip Alpers, an associate professor of University of Sydney's School of Public Health, who studies gun ownership and violence, said Australia's laws had had "demonstrable success".

"We have the most comprehensive suite of gun laws (in the world) and it would be a great shame to start whittling those down," he said.

Also, there have been ZERO mass murders since.

Here's a different HERE take from an Aussie no less.

GunPolicy.org I selected Alabama, Calif., NY and compared to Australia and territory: (amazing) HERE

mnottertail -> RE: International study of gun control finds strong evidence it works (6/15/2016 2:34:07 PM)

the highest was 23 with most being 8 or less (several attacks).

that would be the only one close to the magnitude but somewhat lacking still.

Finally, someone acknowledges these laws work.

A howitzer is better for that.

Or, should I say;

"A howitzer provides more freedom than a .50 caliber sniper rifle."

Well at least with a Howitzer...close counts. At least, that's...what I am told.

As a general rule, however there are certain rounds which will penatrate beyond the area of the target so the blast doesn't get them.

mnottertail -> RE: International study of gun control finds strong evidence it works (6/15/2016 2:39:41 PM)

Another semantics king. OK. How about military grade automatic weapons? What language would you prefer? You know where the intent is going.

But if folks are going to play this "Well, golly! I just don't know what kind of gun-thingy that would be" game, then fine, ban them all instead. FFS.

Don't fuck with me. I'm not a mind-reader. Semantics is the game. The intent in the past has been to indict any rifle with a pistol grip or a flash suppressor or half a dozen other irrelevant features as an "assault" weapon. Words matter. "Automatic weapons," for example, can refer to ordinary semi-auto pistols and rifles, and the phrase "military grade" offers little clarification. Let's not do this.

K.

Come on Kirata, you can do better than this. We had a fucking ban and the repubs of 2004 weren't about to extend it. They clearly don't give a shit and especially given that depending on who you read...75-85% of the American people wanted that ban extended.

A A simular margine doesn't want it re-instated today.
B There was zero information indicating that it had had the least effect on crime. Of course stopping crime isn't the point, finding an excuse to grab guns is.

Prior to Port Authur, when was the last mass shooting in Australia? And if it issuch a sucess why hasn't their murder rate dropped?

Yeah. Watch out for those people sneezing smallpox and anthrax onto 100 people at once.

[8|]

But OK, I'm in favor of banning deliberately killing people with smallpox or anthrax.

I'm quite against knifing children, at school or otherwise. I'm also against being forced by a misguided law to just stand there and watch it happen, rather than be able to stop it. The closest thing I have to an automatic knife is a switchblade, but I could still engage them only one at a time. No, this guy went wandering the school, murdering them as he found them. The school wasn't as densely populated as the nightclub.

Musicmystery -> RE: International study of gun control finds strong evidence it works (6/15/2016 2:57:20 PM)

I'd be OK with a misguided law against that.

BamaD -> RE: International study of gun control finds strong evidence it works (6/15/2016 2:58:11 PM)

Top 3 mass killings in the US in last 50 years.

3 Happy land 1990 87 killed weapons alink of chain and about 5 gallons of gasoline

2 Oklahoma City about 160 killed, weapon used fertilizer.

1 9/11 2000 killed weapon used box cutters

I deliberatly left our Waco to avoid side tracking

We have not had a mass murder with any of these weapons since so we obviously must have vitually ban all three, right Australia.
