Also under the hate/love heading: Writing in the New York Times, longtime traditional-marriage advocate David Blankenhorn noted, "And to my deep regret, much of the opposition to gay marriage seems to stem, at least in part, from an underlying anti-gay animus."

That's not me or someone from Twitter talking. That's someone who logged lots of hours in "hating the sin and loving the sinner."

Another voice, also not mine:

"[S]adly it is religion, including our own, which targets, mostly verbally, and also often breeds contempt for gays, lesbians and transgender people. Attacks today on LGBT men and women often plant the seed of contempt, then hatred, which can ultimately lead to violence."

Catholic Bishop of St. Petersburg

www.miamiherald.com/news/state/article84280737.html Hasn't the LGBT community in Orlando already suffered enough by religious right wing radicals? Now this?

I know that the situation itself not the least bit 'funny,' but when coming upon this in the linked article, I just cracked up right away;

"peaceful sidewalk demonstrations opposing the homosexual lifestyle of soul-damning, nation-destroying filth.

Best thing I've heard since Nietzsche's reference to the religionists of his day as "those despisers of the body."

Westboro proves they are pussies by telegraphing their intent. That way law enforcement is there protecting them. If they didn't two guys on motorcycles with semi-automatics could just kill the bunch of them with covered license plates and flee at 100 MPH.

You get going fast enough they will not catch you.

Know what ? I think one day something like that will happen and they will no longer be a nuisance.

I know they wouldn't fuck with my family's funerals. Shit you look at the Men and boys and there is not a single pierced ear, and look at everyone there is not a single visible tattoo.

But if they fucked with one of our funerals we would hunt them down and make them WANT to die. You burn someone's car, the second time insurance will refuse to pay off. It is in the policy. Replace the windows in their house every 4-15 days. Insurance will not cover that. This is the kind of people I come from, and am. You fuck with me I fuck back. You be friends and I will literally give you the shirt off my back. I will loan you my last dollar. But if you fuck me over you might as well just leave town. Think of your car windows, and tires. Got pets ? I got meatballs with a special ingredient for them, and there is no cure. And that is not the end of it by any means. If you survived fucking with me on this property you are especially in for it.

I think WBC has an extensive security system, and the higher members probably do too, making it hard to attack them. There is probably surveilance, but you can beat that. Actually maybe just get your own camera that can pick up IR and find theirs and shoot them.

You know, you can actually buy a LAWS now.

There is a solution to every problem.

My Father taught me something similar. Hate is a waste. It uses up your energy, your mind, and keeps you from doing what you should be doing effectively. Something like that.

I just talked about wondering why nobody has gone after WBC and all that, but I do not hate them. You do not have to hate to kill. Or whatever. They just have to aggravate you enough.

Let me put it bluntly - I think these fags are going to rip WBC a new asshole, possibly literally. These people are usually healthy, WBC is a bunch of old guys. They have been physically attacked and won lawsuits to provide a bit of additional funding for their activities. Sooner or later someone is going to kill them. Won't be me, but sooner or later some Gsys are going to say enough is enough and stage something to draw them in and go postal on them. Fuck, we got mass shootings all over the place, what's one more ?

Westboros are like super funny! Sorry, radical Extremist Christians does stupid shit but still peaceful shit. At least they haven't killed. They just take credit for every killing, natural diaster, claiming their God did it.

Which is good as long as they don't take anything upon their own hands.

As long as they keep believing God will do it on their behalf, I hope it stays that way, they won't take personal action.

If only Radical Extremist Muslims can behave in the same manner, we wouldn't have Orlando situation, we would just have a bunch of peaceful protest outside the club's Latin night.

Planned Parenthood attack. There is also this, this, this, or this.

Hell, just go through it yourself.

And before any of my fellow atheists get on their high-horses about religion the third most secular nation on earth has this.

Also, In America, Muslims are more likely to support gay marriage than Evangelicals.

So once again Greta, your hateful shit is not only absurdly stupid but completely wrong. People are violent. The ability to look at another human being and beat them to a bloody pulp, or even destroy them entirely with a gun or a knife, is not dependent upon religion but on the depth of your hatred for them.

If I were a Muslim I would certainly fear you as being capable of this, given your obsessive hatred of them.

People like her just can't get enough of beating on the minority in their country.

Which is why she is such a big cheerleader for Trump in the US.

She never refers to the original inhabitants of Singapore as Malayans, always instead as Muslims, which is apparently the more derogatory term in Chinese-run Singapore.

when prominent Christian leaders talk about homosexuality, they very often talk about it in the context of loving the sinner and hating the sin.

this is a direct quote from Dobson for instance, from 37 yrs ago in answer to the question "what should be the Christian's attitude toward homosexuality"---"I believe our obligation is to despise the sin but love the sinner...such individuals need acceptance and love from the Christian community..."

you cannot connect the dots between their preaching and their views on the matter to "inspiring hatred"---unless what you consider as "hatred" is anything that disagrees with or anyone who speaks against homosexuality.

Really? 'Cause I lived in Co Spgs during the Amendment 2 (at the time) campaign. When it passed, CO wasn't called the 'state of hate' for nothing.

Might I suggest you peruse this: http://www.publiceye.org/magazine/v07n1/conshomo.html

yes really---there is not one thing on the website you linked that addresses, much less shows the transition from what people are "preaching" to the inspiring of "hatred" and the inciting of violence.

if people want to think or more importantly, behave badly and harmfully towards gays, its not because there are Christian leaders disagreeing with either homosexuality, or the homosexual political agenda.

and as I suggested---for the left, "hate" is the moniker given towards something, or someone, who disagrees with them.

and that stranger is mistaken.

while im here, this might factor into some part of the overall conversation. I just picked up a book by rene de visme Williamson called "faith as foundation: a Christian reorientation of church/state relations in America" and on the book cover a review of the book wrote: "he points out that the Christians and deists who participated in the [constitutional] convention held in common three politically important religious convictions:

"1. god rules the world and guides people and their governments with his providence.

"2. morality is rooted in religion and cannot long survive without it.

"3. political stability and strength depend on morality, and nowhere most so than a constitutional republic."

Interesting. What might be some of the ways you'd like to reorient life/policy in America?

by way of an answer let me leave you with this:

mankind's single greatest problem is his distance from god.

so with the delicate requirement of respecting if not maximizing liberty, and speaking generally, things that move us towards god are good, and things that move us away are not.

if you want to have more conversation on the topic, id be happy to, feel invited to send me a private message.

So you're cool with the moslem jihadists who are trying to solve that problem by killing unbelievers, then?

This is why religion gets such a bad name.

Some religion is great, I love it. The creative expression of human concepts of divinity and the meaning of existence. That's a positive and healthy thing. I'm not religious myself but I see the benefits to religious people all the time. But organized religion, at least of the sort which divides tries to persuade others to adhere to it and not merely let them come and go as they please, is entirely too destructive on so many levels.

Organized is destructive intellectually because it teaches that you shouldn't be curious or question your own beliefs, it is destructive for society because it divides people across arbitrary cultural lines and encourages hostility, and it is destructive for the personality because it fosters a belief that your religion makes automatically "better" than a non-believer in whatever nonsense you're into.

Mankinds single greatest problem is the amount of people who are willing to believe things because they sound pleasant. Whether it's political or religious.

Hey, but while it lasted, it was such great fun learning that we were just full of "filth" (that word used so often), and ...

Even better, we were "vessels of sin."

The actual events caused by that thinking didn't turn out well. But as concept alone, kind of fun for kinky people.

Any wise, nothing like telling people what filth they were born as to raise up spirits and encourage them.

Happy happy joy joy.

that sentiment has no practicable basis in Christian reality where one is admonished towards "greater love has none than this, that a man lay down his life for his brother."

at the same time, a quote from one of our founders, gouverner morris: "the most important of all lessons is the denunciation or ruin to any state that rejects the precepts of religion."

and john adams: "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

noah Webster: "[T]he Christian religion, in its purity, is the basis, or rather the source of all genuine freedom in government. . . . and I am persuaded that no civil government of a republican form can exist and be durable in which the principles of that religion have not a controlling influence."

George Washington: " Religion and morality are the essential pillars of civil society."

Benjamin franklin: "Whereas true religion and good morals are the only solid foundations of public liberty and happiness . . . it is hereby earnestly recommended to the several States to take the most effectual measures for the encouragement thereof."

I just want to make sure I'm understanding you properly.

So, it would be your position that when religious organizations specifically fund discriminatory legislation to deny homosexuals equal protection under the law in housing, employment, and other basic civil rights, that's not hate.

Why does simple warped thinking automatically equate to "hate"?

For some people in purview of this discussion, there is certainly hate behind it.

But for many others, just an inability to accept reality, the need to frame it in a way comfortable to them, etc.

But otherwise, it's saying that everybody before 15 years ago or 150 years ago should be described as existing on hate.

Of course man is distanced from his god or gods.....................the bloody priests, padres, sky-pilots, preaches and missionaries keep man that way. That way they become the only ones who can interpret the ' REAL MEANING OF WHAT GOD SAYS ' .......................what a load of fairy-tale-bollocks
