According to this University of Chicago analysis...

Well, there's your first problem. Since you're in Australia, you probably don't realize that you can't trust anything that comes from Chicago.

Whoa, now. You besmirching Chicago deep dish pizza?

Is nothing sacred?

Absolutely nothing.

T^T

PS, I have had that pizza and I simply cannot figure out how to make it. I already make a kickass pizza and I got references on that. But those Chicago deep dish ones, we spent a shit ton of money trying to make them but just could not get them right. And bear in mind we are not stupid people and we know how to cook.

I'm from Brooklyn. Yeah. I'll besmirch it!

A University of Chicago study where, it seems, they didn't even bother to look out their window?

Believe it or not, I have a brother that lives in Plainfield (near Chicago) and when he's in Michigan, he takes every opportunity he can to stop at the local pizza joint in our home town because he likes it better than the pizza in Chicago.

While the numbers of guns in the US community is rising steadily, the number of households that are armed is falling. During the period you have cited, the numbers of armed households in the US fell by approx 50%.

According to who?

According to this University of Chicago analysis, ' Trends in Gun Ownership in the United States, 1972-2014', the % of US households owning a gun is at or near historical lows, and has been trending down for last few decades.

"The household ownership of firearms has declined in recent decades. Table 1 (left side) shows that the
31.0% of households reported having a firearm in 2014, essentially tying with 2010 for the lowest level of
gun ownership in the last 40-some years. This is a decline of about 17 percentage points from the peak
ownership years in 1977-1980. Similarly, Table 1 (right side) indicates that in 2010 and 2014 about 32%
of adults lived households having firearms. This was a decline almost 19 percentage points from an
average of 51.2% in 1976-1982. Based on an earlier analysis of those who refused to say whether or not
there was a firearm in their household,1 the refusers were reallocated as probably living in a household
with a firearm or not living in such a household. This allocation indicates that just under 35% of adults
lived in a household with a firearm in both 2014 and 2010. This represents a decline of over 16
percentage point from the peak average of 51.1% in 1976-1982.
Table 2 shows that in 2014 22.4% of adults personally owned a firearm. This is up slightly from a record
low of 20.6% in 2010. There has been little change from 2006 to 2014. Personal ownership in 2014 is
down 8.1 percentage points from a high of 30.5% in 1985.
One of the main reasons for the decline in household firearm ownership is the decrease in the popularity
of hunting (Table 3). In 2014, only 15.4% of adults lived in households in which they, their spouse, or
both were hunters. This is the lowest level of hunters since the highest level of 31.6% adults being hunters
or married to a hunter in 1977.2
"

Interesting although I missed the part where it said it dropped aprox 50%. Perhaps you could cut and paste that part since that was your claim.

Wait, thats a Mini-14? I thought a sporterized M1. the t65e3 (whatever number) model

Still, you but a gun for 7-900 dollars and got to throw another grand into it to make it worth shooting, I dunno, can still pick up a used remington 700 for 3-4 bills.

The 700 has some serious downside safety issues.

What's interesting about table 2 tweak, is that there is a rise of 15.8% of households with NO guns at all over the 34-year period.
With it being around 64.3% in 2014, another 34 years will (hopefully) raise that number to over 80% by 2048.
Give it another 34 years and hopefully (if that trend remains true), by 2082, there will be more than 95% of American households that don't have guns.

Is there any chance that by the turn of the century, our American friends will have finally learned the lesson??
One can live in hope.

I'm pretty sure it's a Mini-14 Ranch Rifle.

I wouldn't ever buy a POS AR for 7-900 dollars and upgrade it. I bought the components I wanted and built them from the lower up. Sub MOA accuracy every time.

I'm completely with you there, Stef. I wouldn't do that either.

To be fair, blnymph, Playboy centrefolds do tend to have much more agreeable bosoms than do guns - even the best guns. On the other hand, guns don't tend to be painted in yacht varnish, as do Playboy centrefolds.

Likewise, though for a second I thought 'M2 Mark 1, German-fluted'. I'm sure that's a common mistake, though.

Nup. Sorry. I enjoy threads in which sundry American gunheads witter away about their guns far too much. They crack me up - mainly because they have *not the first idea* of how ludicrous they look to anyone outside of the USA.

No, I don't, Stef. I'm sure that the standard American sensibility that would froth and drivel about guns till everyone else is bored into a stupor is also the standard sensibility that wouldn't own a passport, wouldn't care about the rest of the world outside of the USA and, indeed, wouldn't even be able to distinguish e.g. the UK from China on a world map, anyway.

And 'lymie' is actually spelt 'limey', you peabrain. Jesus. Your own countrymen invented the term, and *I* have to tell you how to spell it?
