ORIGINAL: Musicmystery Should I type slowly? 1) people break the law 2) that doesn't mean we treat them better 3) Republicans have been whining about welfare cheats for decades, and you wonder whether there's a study? google it and you'll be reading the rest of the week. * 1 in 20 Americans receives some form of welfare assistance -- that's legal Americans. http://www.cheatsheet.com/personal-finance/whos-on-welfare-9-shocking-stats-about-public-assistance.html/?a=viewall * Whether you go by the 11 million or the 14 million illegals number, even if you assume every illegal is a cheat, that's over 5 times as many Americans as illegals. http://dailysignal.com/2015/12/27/you-only-think-you-know-how-many-illegal-immigrants-live-in-the-us/ And living on welfare isn't exactly living high on the hog. Most of us fare far better. * And illegals don't qualify for benefits -- further, since they're here illegally, they keep their heads down, not apply for government attention. http://money.cnn.com/2014/11/20/news/economy/immigration-myths/ Yes, people break the law. Illegals do it every day. If we are putting Americans in jail for breaking a law or fining them while we are giving illegals benefits, we ARE treating them better. You can skew percentages and numbers any way you want. Of course there are more Americans's receiving benefits than illegals...there's more Americans. But as the study plainly shows, the percentage of illegals receiving benefits is a higher percentage of illegals than the percentage of Americans receiving benefits compared to those Americans who are not. The study...done by a legitimate organization...puts the lie to your lawyer's words about illegals not receiving benefits. Until you can provide the same type of study disproving mine, I'll go with mine instead of the claims of a liberal lawyer.
