Greta75 -> 2nd Female PM for UK! (7/7/2016 11:07:25 PM)

Wow! Something awesome is coming out of Brexit!

Thatcher did a great job!

And This May lady, is gonna tackle what some of the male leaders backed away from.

She is gonna steer UK and handle the Brexit crisis into stability again!

I absolutely love the challenge she is going to face and hope she will be able to tackle it!

A Female leader I can feel proud of! And she got it without using the female card!

Hillary really is a disgraced to females.

As I always say, if male and female are equal in qualifications and abilities, I will always choose the female and side my gender! Of course! Root for my own team!

Thatcher was possibly the worst thing that happened to Britain since Oliver Cromwell Greta. you would need to be a rabid, flag-waving cross-burning member of the conservative party to think or say otherwise. she was slightly to the right of Attilla and the best thing she ever did for Britain was die. I wanted to go to her funeral just to make sure the bitch was dead.

As for Brexit, anybody who takes the job of attempting to steer it now has rocks in their head; I don't care if they are male, female or a bloody oyster. They will find they have both sides to fight and placate I think. A tough job at the best of times and I think this might be, as Dickens said, " The best of times. The worst of times". Good luck to the Brits and they have my best wishes though.

Greta75 -> RE: 2nd Female PM for UK! (7/7/2016 11:48:39 PM)

I honestly seldom meet British people who feels that Thatcher did a bad job.
She was generally looked back as a pretty good leader. She was tough and not politically correct.

Dvr22999874 -> RE: 2nd Female PM for UK! (7/7/2016 11:51:46 PM)

I would say you should take a vacation in UK and travel a few towns and cities north of about Northampton up to the lowlands of Scotland and just walk up to just about anybody in the street or a pub or club and say " I think Margaret Thatcher was absolutely wonderful. What do YOU think ?"...........I will draw a veil over the following scene but when you have healed enough to think again, think carefully about what she actually DID do to Britain.

Dvr22999874 -> RE: 2nd Female PM for UK! (7/7/2016 11:53:53 PM)

You DEFINITELY travel in different circles to me Greta. she was a plague that was worse than the Black Death and I sincerely hope she is rotting in one of the many hells available.

Greta75 -> RE: 2nd Female PM for UK! (7/7/2016 11:54:32 PM)

What in your opinion did she actually do to Britain that brought Britain to their knees? Britain was still a great country during her time.

Let's try for dismantling the merchant navy, which used to be one of the worlds largest, crippling the docks and dock industries, shutting the mines, closing the steel works, dismantling most of Britain's heavy industry and putting hundreds of thousands out of work. Apart from that, she continued breathing which in my mind was her greatest sin, because it took air away from more deserving people.

And yet she survived 3 general elections. She must be doing something right in the midst of some mistakes she made. I think she had foresight for her time and had to have the balls to bring about difficult changes that had short term pain but longer term benefits.
Here's an article opposing your views of her.

From another point of view. UK was lagging behind in competitiveness and old fashioned ways and beliefs which they felt was the core of what traditionally British values are. She took over as PM, during a terrible recession, where UK was falling behind, and instilled radical solutions that she believe will bring UK back to greatness in the long term.

Working class people suffered and were sacrificed. I am the end justify the means type of person. It is believed that all the pain they suffered were sooner or later circumstances as the world evolves and they were falling behind.

She was a mere grocer's daughter who worked her way up to PM. One of the longest serving PMs. The Brit people I know usually don't hate her and always sang praises of her and liked that she had balls and was tough.

Perhaps the kind of Brits I meet in my country are more affluent Brits. And the people most hurt by her policies were working class British people who seldom step out of their country and see the world. It is said that she improves the economy at the price of many working class people losing their jobs. She chose one sacrifice, and those who sacrificed would hate her for it. Then again, my x was working class too and Brit. He grew up where they only had one meal a day and it was just potatoes and his mom took him and siblings out to play to forget their hunger. So it sounded like he really came from the slummiest of slums. Just that later he found a job that allows him to travel the world and that's how we met when he came here. But he utterly admires Thatcher too.

Well.., sometimes, tough decisions has to be made. The question is, what would be a better solution during her time? To bring UK back up to scratch? In one of their worst recessive period ever?

But I love how, the first Female Prime Minister took over Britain when it was down. And now the second Female Prime Minister is gonna do the same. Take over Britain with an extremely difficult task ahead!

I love it when females are given the more difficult challenges! And a Female is gonna handle Brexit!

Here is an online poll on British people, showing 50% feels thatcher was good for UK, and 34% feels she was bad. The rest were undecided or had no opinions.
That's pretty good over all!

More than half (55%) of English voters rate Thatcher as having been good for Britain, compared with 34% of the Welsh respondents questioned, and just 23% of Scots. And within that overall English score there is another divide: in the south fully 60% of voters judge her record as good against 47% who say the same thing in the north.

MariaB -> RE: 2nd Female PM for UK! (7/8/2016 4:05:33 AM)

Thatcher was a staunch nationalist who changed the face of both left and right wing politics by abandoning keynesian theory and giving birth to a new neo-liberal Britain . Neo-liberalism has been the dominant doctrine of every party who succeeded her and its seriously fucked up this country.

Thatcher was a disciple of Friedrich von Hayek. His doctrine was competition between nations, regions, companies and individuals. With neo-liberalism, competition is central because it sorts the wheat from the chaff, the successful from the unsuccessful and the rich from the poor. It creates elites and an underclass which is good for those who succeed but not so good for those who don’t. Pre- Thatcher, one in ten people were classed as poor or on the poverty line. In our modern neo-liberal times, its one in four.

Thatcher didn’t like “natural monopolies” and so she started her revolution of privatizing things like British Rail, the bus companies, public housing, coal, iron and steel, gas, electricity, water and telecommunications. She took away the power of the trade unions and ensured those earning the most would get the biggest tax reductions whilst those earning the least would see their taxes go up by 7%.

The reason she was voted in 3 times is, she created a new pretentious middle class. The hundreds and thousands who bought their public housing for a mere handful of notes, then sold them for a kings ransom some years later so they could move onto that posh estate up the road are the modern day Thatcher apologists. Thatcher encouraged vanity over status and turned a proud working class Britain into a bunch of hard core borrowers for the sake of keeping up appearances. Its not just sad, its bloody tragic.

I haven’t got a good word to say about Thatcher, though I do believe what she created was never supposed to go this far. I like to think Thatcher would be turning in her grave at what her baby has now become. Both Theresa May and Andrea Leadsom make Thatcher look like a gullible child. They are the Darth Vader of politics so god help us.

Its a Guardian online poll Greta, its meaningless.

MissShey -> RE: 2nd Female PM for UK! (7/8/2016 4:17:56 AM)

Back to the OP for just a moment...

I fail to see how the country can be guided out of the EU by someone who campaigned to remain in it. That, surely, is the reason the PM resigned in the first place?

WhoreMods -> RE: 2nd Female PM for UK! (7/8/2016 4:47:52 AM)

May is clearly a sin eater appointed purely to do that, and will probably be subjected to a leadership challenge and/or vote of no confidence the second she activates article 50 so her replacement doesn't have to.

Greta, as for you meeting mostly pro-Thatcher British people, that'll be because you live in a tax haven and the British expats you meet there will have done rather well out of her dismantling and sale of the social infrastructure, rather than being fucked over by it. Do you seriously people who got hold of the gooey end of that stick during the '80s could afford to move to Singapore?

If the end is to take wealth from workers and give it to the already-wealthy, then yes, you have demonstrated many times that is the type of person you are.

quote:

It is said that she improves the economy at the price of many working class people losing their jobs.

So you propose then that many workers losing their jobs is 'improving the economy'? And the newly mass-unemployed thus not able to buy anything anymore, so the companies they used to buy from now losing revenue as consequence and thereby having to lay off even more workers, is your idea of 'improving the economy'?

And you expect anyone to take you and your unfathomable nonsense seriously?

Admiring Thatcher is a step up for her.

I'm not a conservative. Never voted for them, probably never will do - although that is open to change.

But, I don't rate Theresa May at all. Whenever I see her speaking I get the feeling she is not in control; she's a bit yappy and quick off the mark.

Now, the other one, Leadsome, she has the aura of a calm, collected, statesman/woman. She would get my vote were I a Conservative Party member.

Leadsome also backed the Leave campaign, while May backed the Remain campaign. This vote now goes to the grass roots party members and as most of them in England are Euro-sceptics then the tables are turned and Leadsome stands a very good chance.

Love her or loathe her, and she's not my cup of tea, Britain is in a far better position than she was when Thatcher first became Prime Minister. That is demonstrable.
