Ted Kennedy was an alcoholic and skated through at least an involuntary manslaughter charge. True enough but however Joseph Kennedy Sr. had nothing to do with any illegal liquor business or bootlegging or...making any moonshine.

Joseph Kennedy Sr. was an American businessman, investor, and politician known for his high-profile positions in United States politics.

Kennedy embarked on a career in business and investing, first making a large fortune as a stock market and commodity investor and later rolled over the profits by investing in real estate and a wide range of business industries across the United States. Then (during prohibition) in the 1920s Kennedy made huge profits from reorganizing and refinancing several Hollywood studios, ultimately merging several acquisitions into Radio-Keith-Orpheum (RKO) studios.

The business was formed after the Keith-Albee-Orpheum (KAO) vaudeville theater circuit and Joseph P. Kennedy's Film Booking Offices of America (FBO) studio were brought together under the control of the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) in October 1928. RCA chief David Sarnoff engineered the merger to create a market for the company's sound-on-film technology, RCA Photophone. By the mid-1940s, the studio was under the control of investor Floyd Odlum.

The studio produced two of the most famous films in motion picture history: King Kong and Citizen Kane.

After Prohibition of alcohol ended in 1933, Kennedy consolidated an even larger fortune when he traveled to Scotland with Roosevelt's son James to negotiate contracts for distribution rights for Scotch whiskey. His company, Somerset Importers, became the exclusive American agent for Gordon's Gin and Dewar's Scotch. In addition, Kennedy purchased spirits-importation rights from Schenley Industries, a firm in Canada. He owned the largest office building in the country, Chicago's Merchandise Mart, giving his family an important base in that city and an alliance with the Irish-American political leadership there.

That's how the Kennedy family made their fortune and you will have to explain to me how they are thieves, rogues and liars and especially as compared to the obvious and outright seedy corruption of other prominent politicians and businessmen before and since.

How does this bullshit stick ?

JFK and RFK wanted the US OUT of Vietnam long before the outlandish lie to come later that politically caused the Gulf of Tonkin resolution that after 5 years of US escalation under LBJ, resulted in 6 more years of war and over 50,000 GI's dead.

JFK saw that the CIA was operating inside the US, quite illegally and in obvious violation of its charter and shut them down.

JFK used the FBI to close it down. From that point on...the FBI and the CIA hated JFK for...following the law.

JFK was told by Eisenhower to stick with the Bay of Pigs Op that was executed as incompetently as one could imagine where the commanding AF general failed to order air support and JFK took the blame.

JFK closed down Operation Northwoods a CIA/FBI/Navy Intell. false flag Op to start a war with Cuba and...to blame it on Cuba.

Now the CIA, FBI, Military Indust. regime hated Kennedy for following the law and...NOT invading Cuba. (previously the Sodom and Gomorrah of western civilization)

The mob allegedly helped JFK win Illinois in a close race against Nixon, RFK as Atty. Gen saw that there was a Mafia and...went after them.

Now the mob hated JFK & RFK.

JFK issued exec. ord. 11110 to confiscate all federal reserve notes to be replaced with silver certificates. Now the bankers hated JFK for following the constitution.

One does not fuck with the bankers and JFK...had to go.

RFK knew all of these secrets, won the Calif. primary. RFK...had to go.

I'll take the Roosevelts and yes despite their family ties to the bankers and the fed. reserve, the Kennedys' and the Clinton plus any dem over any other political family before I'd take any repub since Eisenhower.

Yes, JFK and Joe Sr. had a sexual conquest problem and so did Bill Clinton. So I am supposed to prefer corrupt, rent-seeking, war-mongering, pseudo-conservative repubs over that piddling bullshit ?

No other politicians who actually made it, have undergone such obvious partisan scrutiny as have the Clintons and all by innuendo and without precedented charge. To my knowledge, no president in history had ever been compelled by the federal courts to testify in any civil case...until Bill Clinton.

Popeye I am disappointed, this OP is nothing but a sick, partisan cheap shot. So you got me going. Also to my knowledge, nobody got more bills through all of congress and signed into law than...Ted Kennedy. 15,235 votes in the Senate, 2500 bills authored, 552 cosponsored pieces of legislation passed into law.

Decades after Prohibition, Underworld figures like gangsters Meyer Lansky and Frank Costello fed the rumor by speaking up in public that they worked with Kennedy to bring in liquor from Rum Row or to transport it on land. Owney Madden, another gangster bootlegger, confided privately to his lawyer that he served Kennedy’s liquor in his Prohibition era night clubs in New York City, which would have included the Cotton Club.

The author of Paddy-Whacked: Untold Story of the Irish Gangster suggests Kennedy may have financed shipments to Rum Row from Europe but not smuggled these shipments to land. Instead, he could have re-sold it to others who then smuggled it in (e.g. Costello?) According to the Dark Side of Camelot , Kennedy smuggled liquor to Long Island’s Sag Harbor. But maybe this was Costello bringing in liquor purchased on Rum Row from Kennedy? Lansky in the 1950s also said Joe Kennedy disliked him because Kennedy thought he ( Lansky) once hijacked a liquor shipment of his (Kennedy’s) from Boston to New York City during Prohibition. (See Mafia Encyclopedia.)

Any evidence?

A close study of Coast Guard records at the National Archives shows some Kennedys smuggled and bootlegged in New York City. But not the famous Massachusetts Kennedys. These smugglers were Jack and Edwin Kennedy who operated a restaurant in midtown Manhattan. This came to light when the body of Edwin, 25, was found floating in the Hudson River near 84th Street in the fall of 1927. His brother could not explain this death. His widow insisted her husband was murdered by bootleggers. Did Lansky, Madden, and Costello, recalling Prohibition decades afterward, confuse these New York Kennedys with Joe Kennedy? Or did they believe that they were distant relations working for him? Joe Kennedy did live in New York City and work as an investment banker in the 1920s. If these were relatives, did they front for him?

At his tenth Harvard class reunion on Cape Cod in the 1920s, Joe Kennedy supposedly supplied the liquor. The reunion was a private party. Kennedy could have easily had access to his family’s very legal pre-Prohibition stock of liquor. (His father was a liquor importer to Boston before Prohibition.) Contrary to modern understanding of Prohibition, drinking was not illegal under the 18th Amendment, only its production, transportation, and sale were illegal. (A key difference with current federal marijuana law which punishes users.)

Coast Guard records of boats seized with liquor during Prohibition include one in Nantucket Sound which had a nautical chart aboard showing liquor drop-offs near Hyannisport where the Kennedy family had a new summer home. This does not prove Kennedy was a smuggler or bootlegger —only that he probably was a scofflaw like millions of fellow Americans.

Both eisenhower and kennedy told bisssel there would be no air support.

Wrong. The first mishap occurred on April 15, 1961, when eight bombers left Nicaragua to bomb Cuban airfields. The CIA had used obsolete World War II B-26 bombers, and painted them to look like Cuban air force planes.The bombers missed many of their targets and left most of Castro's air force intact.

As news broke of the attack, photos of the repainted U.S. planes became public and revealed American support for the invasion. President Kennedy canceled a second air strike.

On April 17, the Cuban-exile invasion force, known as Brigade 2506, landed at beaches along the Bay of Pigs and immediately came under heavy fire. Cuban planes strafed the invaders, sank two escort ships, and destroyed half of the exile's air support. Bad weather hampered the ground force, which had to work with soggy equipment and insufficient ammunition.

Side Note: It is newsworthy for clarifying the role of Vice-President Richard Nixon, who, the report reveals, intervened in the planning of the invasion on behalf of a wealthy donor. .....and HRC is corrupt ? The dems have their problems but the repubs are the real pros.

JFK's role in Vietnam is debated by historians. Some point to the fact that he increased our military presence from 500 "advisors" to about 15,000. Others claim he accepted a recommendation from McNamara in October of 1963 for a stealthy phased withdrawal to be completed after the 1964 elections. Well once again, it was Eisenhower who told Kennedy to stick with Vietnam because of its rubber and oil.

And actually the latter part of your link substantiates that JFK had made a decision to withdraw in NSAM 263. (1000 troops by 12/63) It was the CIA that tried all it could, to undermine the president's policy as well as historians who said that the assassination of Diem et all was an action taken by the CIA unbeknown and a shock to both JFK and RFK and another reason why JFK wanted to take down the CIA whose charter never (and still does not) authorize any field actions. (not to put to fine a point on it, but it was 18,000 advisors total after the US's last installment)

Suffice it to say, there would not have been 11 more years of war and countless 100's of thousands dead had JFK not been taken out. Not to mention 1/3 (now 35%] of the world's supply of natural rubber that the French went in for in the first place. (Michelin itself had 31,000 acres)

Plus, as usual, look what's happened since 1975.
