Status: offline 		Orientation. That time of year when college freshmen...excuse me, first-year students...are taught how to get around on campus, what activities are available, what services are available, how college differs from high school in curriculum, disciplinary actions, etc. Right?

That's why I applaud University of Chicago's repudiation of safe spaces and micro-aggression theatre and commitment to academic freedom. Predictably the leftist press has reacted with horror, but it's important for students to engage in rigorous debate without tumblrinas turning every discussion into their own personal statement of victim-hood.

This is stupid on all accounts. Our stereotypical vision of scientists is that they're white, wear glasses and tend to be nerdy. Science as a discipline requires intense focus which tends to favour those people who lack social connections, who think esoteric scientific stuff is cool and whose ability to focus inevitably impacts their eyesight.

The fact that someone defies a stereotype is not an insult. And turning it into one is the kind of self-absorbed bullshit which denotes a self-obsessed individual. Anyone getting offended by this shit is a waste of space.

I'm sure this wasn't the only thing on the agenda. "Microaggression" enables people to feel offended when it's just not warranted.

It's being termed racism if a white person sings the words to a song that contain the n-word.

Isn't it racism to decide if something is okay or not based on skin color?

Is it racism for me to hear (c)rap music with the n-word in it's lyrics? Is it racist of me to want to stop (c)rap music that has the n-word in it's lyrics? Would it be racist of me to file a complaint about loud (c)rap music when it contains lyrics that include the n-word?
