ANOTHER REASON TO HAVE GUNS.

now a 14 year old girl , for fucks sake.....

LadyDemura -> RE: GROW UP AMERICA (9/9/2016 2:06:14 AM)

Ban guns, ban region, ban states rights! The Constitution was a more perfect document without this so called Bill of Rights. A bunch of stupid southerners insisted on it back then, and look what we have now...a bunch of stupid southerners defending it...

States rights were inherent in the Constitution before the Bill of Rights.
You are saying that the goverment should be allowed to force people to testify against themselves, and since the prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment any means they wanted to use.

Some states rights were, but many are largely because of the 10th amendment. Why is it we must have 4 levels of government, federal, state, county, and city, with 4 sets of taxes, of course. Without it, aside from the other powers the states have, congress could basically get rid of state, county, and city taxes and regulations...

No, they would taken over the functions of those other governments, and raise taxes accoringly. Actually since there is more waste at the higher levels of government we would end up paying more taxes. As for the 10th Amendment if you had actually understood the Constitution you would know that it was written with the idea of a balence between the states and the central government. Not only that the 10th has been undermined to the extent that for all practical purposes it might as well not exist.

The entire Constitution is based on checks and balances.

You cannot possibly be serious. First of all, there were as many northerners demanding a BOR as there was southerners. Chief among those was the Massachusetts convention was angry and contentious and even broke into a fight. Anti-Federalists Samuel Adams and John Hancock agreed to ratification (of the constitution and only) on the condition that the convention also propose amendments to it.

Ben Franklin form PA. insisted on a BOR. Yes, the BOR and in particular the 10th amend. has been eviscerated by the courts using the commerce clause and the 14th amend. which has given the federal govt. much more power than was originally intended.

So...vote that way.

As pointed out the interstate commerce clause has been the primary weapon against the 10th, the 10th should be revitalized. They got away with it through incremental undermineing, something being done to the whole document.

Yup, that bill of rights screwed things up royally, just think, government limits on speech, religion, and being able to arrest and hold people in jail without formal charges, kick your door in to search for no good reason than it was something to do.

The problem is not with guns, or even the gun laws, since the current gun regulations WOULD work if they were actually able to be enforced the way they are written.

However, due to the fact that law enforcement agencies below the federal level are not forced to put protection orders or indictments for felonies (both of which would prevent someone from purchasing a gun) into the National Criminal database, there is no way the back ground checks can work.

The fact that there are a litany of mental disorders that, under the laws as written, bar people from purchasing firearms, you would think that it would be mandatory for mental health professionals to report patients with such disorders to the proper agencies, but thanks to privacy laws, that is not the case.

For that matter, considering the lethal uses of a gun, you would think that it would be mandatory to report one stolen or missing, but nope.

Nor is there any regulation about storage of a firearm.

And before the extremist gun owners start screaming, consider this.

Would you store poisons where a child can get to them?
Would you put a five gallon gas can near a fireplace?

There are irresponsible people that leave guns and ammo where a kid can get to them. Accidental deaths top the list for gun related deaths.

Then there is the argument that the gun needs to be ready in case someone breaks in to the home.

Got news for you, IF a person can break in faster than you can get to a gun that is placed for ready access for you but not everyone else, then you have a bigger problem than you think.

Hell, if you live in a place where a gun is necessary to protect yourself in your own home, you should move.

BamaD -> RE: GROW UP AMERICA (9/9/2016 9:46:29 AM)

I don't know where you get your information, but suicides account for nearly two thirds of all firearm related deaths, which makes your statement impossible. And almost a third of firearm related deaths are homocides, again dwarfing the numbers of accidents. Firearm related accidents are something like number 20 among accidental deaths in this country, and that doesn't include automobile accidents..
As for moving if you are in a bad neighborhood, some of us can't afford too. And in some places the decent people are taking the neighborhood back.

Dafuq?

MrRodgers -> RE: GROW UP AMERICA (9/9/2016 11:43:06 AM)

Part of the problem is that the courts have ruled both in favor of states rights when it suits them and against states rights too.

United States v. Lopez, No. 93-1260, declared a federal creation of 'Gun Free Zones' unconstitutional in violation of states rights.

HERE

Gonzales v. Raich (previously Ashcroft v. Raich), 545 U.S. 1 (2005), was a decision by the US Supreme Court ruling that under the Commerce Clause of the US Constitution, Congress may criminalize the production and use of homegrown cannabis even if states approve its use for medicinal purposes.

HERE

The court told the world flat out that the commerce clause comes in very handy when you need it and the 10th amend....be damned.

Termyn8or -> RE: GROW UP AMERICA (9/9/2016 12:37:33 PM)

I agree with much of what you agree. But...

"Would you store poisons where a child can get to them? "

There are plenty of poisons they can get to. It still does not happen all that often.

"There are irresponsible people that leave guns and ammo where a kid can get to them. Accidental deaths top the list for gun related deaths. "

I know all about the kid who shot his own Father over at a friend's house. Also I remember the story about the guy who shot himself three times cleaning his gun, and the other who shot his olady supposedly cleaning his gun.

Now the case of the kid shooting his Father, there is no culpability in that. The gun was in the private home of some guy who wore a gun at work, cop, security guard or whatever. The kid wandered off and found it in the bedroom. It was probably a surprise visit, but I guess next time he should call ahead and say "Hey Jim, I am bringing the kid over so put your gun up, last time it killed me". You just can't do shit about some things.

And these cleaning the gun accidents, I simply do not believe. JLF, do YOU clean a gun while it is loaded ?

And I like these guys who clean their guns without ever shooting them. If you do not shoot them you do not need to clean them. Maybe oil. It is like changing the oil in a car you never drove, it is simply not necessary. And BTW, you know not to change the transmission fluid right ? Sure, change the filter but pour back in as much of the old fluid as possible and then top it off. If you know anything about the chemistry of the situation you know that the seals, wearing in, partly dissolve in the fluid. That means they are less soluble in that fluid. You put in new fluid and it dissolves more, which you do not want. Also, never use injector cleaners. All sales hype, none of this is good for your car.

but if you regularly go to the range or whatever, or shoot varmint, sure, clean the gun. But most people I know take the ammo out first. They also don't shoot their oladies, or themselves. Like the guy who shot himself three times cleaning a gun, don't you think that after the second time he would get the idea ? To this day I have a hard time wrapping my head around that scenario.

The problem is not the guns, the problem is the stupid motherfuckers who have them. And I got another one. Just down the street the gas/beer station got robbed. The owner had a CCW and shot the armed robber in the arm and leg. He did not want to take a human life, nice guy. Was until the thug turned around and shot him, killing him. Let that be a lesson. You pull that thing out you shoot to kill. And you keep shooting if the first round doesn't do the trick. The whole idea is to put the risk back into crime.
