LadyDemura -> Cruel and unusual punishment (9/9/2016 1:55:46 AM)

Isn't it time for this ban to go? Why again is this in the constitution? Prison doesn't seem to be a real deterrent, incarcerating those that are caught breaking the law is very expensive, but they can't try anything different because it might be cruel and unusual...

What punishments might be a deterrent if cruel and unusual punishment were allowed? This could be fun...

The fact that you would consider using cruel and unusual punishment on a civilian population is pretty repulsive.

Diffident -> RE: Cruel and unusual punishment (9/9/2016 3:00:43 AM)

Punishment isn't a very effective deterrent for crime. What has been shown to reduce crime is a society that cares about it's people. This is why Scandanavia has the lowest crime rates while also having the softest jails in the world.

I wasn't though I was hoping this thread would be more fun(especially on this site)...lots of "cruel and unusual" punishments that could happen now were not possible when then constitution was written. If you want to get more serious, why not just sever the spinal cord of anyone convicted of a violent crime? First offense, paralyzed from the waist down, second offense, from the neck down. Third offense, seriously there will be no third offense would there?

Obviously. I am really starting to wonder what attracted me to this site in the first place. Fun doesn't seem to be what it's about, at least what I call fun...seems more or less like Fox News, wanting to just keep the status quo...at least they have better looking commentators.

So what do you feel would be cruel and unusual enough to work as a deterrent, if the death sentence doesn't? Are you really keen to introduce shariah law over there and start mutilating people for shoplifting?

Kink and fantasy ideas aren't meant to be the stuff of this particular forum, LD. People expect to discuss things pretty seriously here as opposed to, say, 'Polls and Random'.

You want the forums of either off the grid or polls and other random stuff.

FR

This brings back the memory of that kid in Singapore who committed vandalism. They wanted to cane him but international pressure was brought to bear.

Singapore is a very orderly place and believe it or not the people do support the strict laws. for example like fines or jail for spitting on the sidewalk. They do not want to track that shit into their house where their kids crawl around on the floor. Thatis their thinking ans so be it. It is their country. And when in Rome...

So, this asshole teenager who committed vandalism and the world came out against him getting caned, if I were the Singaporean government I would say "OK then we give him a year in jail, where he does not know the language, is not used to the food and will be a year older when he gets out". You want that ? they have every right to enforce their laws as long as you are on their territory. Either way would have taught the punk a lesson. And committing vandalism in a foreign country ? How does that reflect on us as a nation ? If I were President I would have said go ahead and execute the fucking punk. Make us look bad like that. He shamed this country doing that stupid shit. I would not lift a fucking finger to help him out of his deserved punishment.

We should consider caning for misdemeanors here. We got too many jails and prisons and too many people in them for trivial shit. First get rid of the drug laws, I put in MY body whatever I damn well please. If I cause trouble, bust me for that. But if I just enjoy myself and don't do anything wrong leave me alone. But vandalism, give them a good ass whipping, which is what caning is. It is better for society than throwing people in jail for years and year so they cannot support their family or pay their bills and them lose everything. I have known people who went to prison, when it gets to be like 20 years they don't even want out. They are used to it. They come out into a different world. In the old days they used to say "I don't even recognize the cars" but now it is much more than that. Some see their rights curtailed to the point they might say "Well them why the fuck did I even get out ?". Others get such strict parole restrictions they just say "Fuck you, max me out". That way when they get out they are really out.

You know, you could have a severely bruised ass fro a caning, but in a few months it heals and you are OK. Of course you do not want another, but they didn't take years of your life, which are irreplaceable.

Now what is cruel and unusual ?

Back when they had schools and even colleges in prisons that was one thing, but they don't do that anymore. In fact they used to have where if you applied for welfare you could get free schooling, at least the GED and then trade school. But years ago you could get a fucking degree in prison. Not no mo.

Things are always the worst they've ever been. Care to speculate why ?

That gives me an idea.
For "cruel and unusual" punishment, make the inmates go to school every day.

If they flunk a daily quiz, they get detention.
If they flunk a weekly test, they have to sit through an additional class session.
If they flunk the semester, they can choose to either spend time in solitary or have time added to their sentence.
However, if they pass, they get time taken off their sentence.

Stuck in prison with a life sentence?
Passing would mean extra privileges - single person cell, better food, extra recreation time, more contact with relatives, etc.

This isn't actually a bad idea.

I was just curious as to what the reaction would be here on this...a bit different than I expected, a surprise to me there was nothing with power tools...I guess I just have the most evil mind, not that I could actually do the things I think about unless you somehow elect me to office...I wouldn't do them to a sub, because such a person that deserved such punishments wouldn't be someone I'd want as a sub, or in my life at all really.

Why waste energy on power tools when ISIS has brought back crucifixion?

I know someone who advocates making them unwilling organ donors. Start with corneas and skin grafts, kidneys, a lung then maybe the liver. Keep them alive of course but that would require machinery that could be used on people who deserve to live, so someone would have to make that decision. Organs n shit like that are very hard to store, you usually have to use them right away. So I guess that would be those "death panels". But that would be for murderers and rapists. Not for just theft or whatever.
