Oh, please!

A study of 250,000 first-born Norwegians between 18 and 19 years old shows shows an IQ higher by 2.3 points?
How statistically significant is a difference of 2.3 points on a scale of 200 (genius) down to zero (dead)?

If you're skinny, you can remember a few more words in a vocabulary test?

Left-handed people are divergent thinkers?
Maybe so - since most physical facilities favor the right-handed.
Lefties are always looking for "work-arounds."

A six-foot tall person earns $166,000 more over 30 years?
Wow! That's like $5.000/year - a veritable windfall.

Night owls have a higher IQ?
Sure. From the University of Madrid, no less.
So - if I start staying up late, my IQ will increase?

60% of gifted children are introverted.
Wow! Who would have guessed that?
More so, why does introversion automatically translate into higher intelligence?

A study of 6,000 people in Brazil says those who were breastfed have higher scores.
So - out of how many billion people on earth, we extrapolate from 6,000 to billions that breastfeeding makes you smarter.
Good science.

Liberal, curious, and funny = higher intelligence.
Since I am all three, I agree.

Case closed.

I have come to wonder if our minds are more limited than we think. I like you have known my fair share of high IQ individuals. And…as you say they all are lacking some other essential portion of their brain that is necessary to function properly in society.

Or perhaps they're just conforming to a stereotype that they feel is expected of them?

Personally my opinion is that IS them.

ShaharThorne -> RE: What may decide your intelligence. (9/12/2016 3:57:05 PM)

I am really not typical...I used to be a leftie until I broke my arm when I was 6, I am first born, I am morbidly obese, naturally curious, not overly religious but very spiritual, have a math block but love figuring out physics and chaotic theories, love history, especially tracing royal bloodlines, read anything I can get my hands on, play MMORPGs and crochet. The test avoids some questions that can go into detail about intelligence. I can qualify for Mensa but there is not a chapter around me. Also I graduated in the lower 10% of my high school class because the school did not provide any challenges for me (the AP Science teacher let me do my own experiments because he recognized my potential).

Add having a few mental illnesses (Bipolar, BPD, PTSD) and being an introvert to the mix and I am bloody Van Gogh!

1) Yes
2) Fail
3) Fail
4) Fail
5) Yes
6) Yes
7) Fail and was probably never fed breast milk ever (Wow, another thing to blame my mom)
8) Only Atheist, half points?
9) Fail, not curious about anything
10) Fail

3.5/10

Sad sad!

Interesting.

First one must define what is meant by intelligence. Are we referring to modern definition or actual intelligence?

I thought THIS was interesting...although number 8 is rather contentious.

I'm not a southpaw, so I'm stupid, but i can use a fancy fountain pen if I want to.
I can live with that...

meh.. my ex was a leftie and he wasnt particularly bright, had he been smart he would have listened to me.. [:D]

..(cough, cough, cough).. technically yes we/I dont have a piece of paper saying he is my ex but we have been separated for about 6 or 7 years now.. and we live in two different countries.. so really, emotionally, physically etc to me he is my ex, just havent made it "official" with the state.. Its just easier to say he is my ex than to explain all that to people, kwim? [:D]

Got you, and I'm sorry to go probing open wounds in the tender meat of your heart like that. Mea culpa.

Here's a question not addressed in that list -
How many people who are able to effectively use lateral thinking are also particularly pious or heavily political??

From those I've met, very very few.

My husband. Extremely intelligent and very devoted to his faith.
