That means stifling free speech. You know that, right ?

So you take your fucking gun with you to take out the trash, it is the price you pay. Nobody ever said freedom is free.

T^T

Its not stifling free speech, its just common sense not to piss into the wind or do things that can have bad consequences, its thinking about the possible outcomes/problems of an action and deciding if its worth it to you or not.. for me, personally, its most definately not.. and quite frankly, I am not sure what the point of the sign was.. even that is unclear, other than sounding like a smart-arse remark for the sake of letting everyone know you are a smart-arse.. The M-16 / AR-15 type rifles are referred to as "The Black Rifle".

Based on all of the calls for banning AR-15's and the like, the sign was actually quite clever. It may be a smart-arse remark but that should clarify the point for you.

Greta75 -> RE: Black Rifles Matter (9/14/2016 8:37:23 AM)

I seriously do not understand at all why people get mad about Black Rifles Matter.

It sounds so funny to me!

It makes me think of, IF there was White Lives Matter. Then someone will put out signs saying Polar Bears Lives Matters!

Maybe if there was Yellow Lives Matter. People will start saying Banana Lives Matter! Simpsons Lives Matter!

I mean if there was a Yellow Lives Matter and someone start a stop killing and eating Bananas campaign. That be quite funny to me.

I think free speech should be regulated like proper forum debates. No Ad Hominem allowed. IF someone wants to criticize anything, do it professionally and stick to the issues.

The reason for this, to protect against Cyber Bullying. I mean if kids are commiting suicide over cyber bullying. They need to start prosecuting Ad Hominem. Basically personal attacks on people. That's not free speech. That's just bullying.

I agree. There must be clear damage done to a person, and then it should be carried through a civil court regarding judgement of those damages, not in the nature of the protected speech. Proponents on limiting speech often bring up the case of yelling "Fire" in a crowded theater. In that certain instance, the individual who raised the false alarm should be sued for damages in civil court at the very least, perhaps even criminal court for reckless endangerment, etc.

When ever I see criminal code covering "hate speech" it makes my skin crawl. Such a thing sets a dangerous precedent that could eventually lead to the complete abandonment of a respect for free speech.

Termyn8or -> RE: Black Rifles Matter (9/14/2016 9:11:38 AM)

People need to grow a skin. I am going to tell you something very personal about this shit.

"The reason for this, to protect against Cyber Bullying. I mean if kids are commiting suicide over cyber bullying. They need to start prosecuting Ad Hominem. Basically personal attacks on people. That's not free speech. That's just bullying. "

Well my penis shrinks when not hard, I mean gets quite small. When hard it is normal six inches and hard as a rock, though it is less common now. But when shrunk, forced to take a shower at the thing that resembles a car wash at school, like a prison they saw it and one kid said "Where's your dick" and the whole class laughed at me. Did I commit suicide ?

I think if someone wants to commit suicide over some shit said about them on Facebook, let them do it. I'll buy them a gun because they are just going to grow bigger into someone old enough to vote (not grow up) and be a sickening bleeding heart liberal which is what many of us do not want in this country. Get used to it. It is our choice. Let them check out if they can't take it. That is why they get PTSD all the time from being in a battle zone, that is why a third of the military are on anti-depressants and MORE THAN one suicide per day. In the old days every once in a while someone got shellshock and that was because they were too close to a bomb of some sort and deaf in one ear. Men, we don't seem to make them anymore.

T^T

Greta75 -> RE: Black Rifles Matter (9/14/2016 9:24:36 AM)

Well, the problem is if it's your own kid who commit suicide over facebook, that be pretty shitty.

And end of the day, we are dealing with a over here we use the term "strawberry generation". They don't grow up with hardships like the older folks did, they are more fragile.

I mean, during my generation, my teachers, slap me, pulled my hair, smash my head onto the wall, and it was normal cuz everyone got the same shit. I used to have knuckles hit with the big wooden black board ruler until it broke. I was 8 yrs old. And it was all legal for teachers to beat the crap out of you back then. I went to a Christian school, so they would quote that spare the rod spoil the child bible verse.

But this generation, IF a teacher even raise their voice at a student, the student can complain against the teacher for abuse. It's a different world now.

That's the way it is. Different times, different measures.

Besides, online bullying I think in many ways is more brutal than before when there is internet. It is relentless. They can also photoshop your picture with stupid things and make it go viral, you get world of strangers joining in to torment you. It's a different type of bullying.

Traditional bullies can only bully you when they see you. At the worst, they can turn a whole school against you, well that be tough, maybe a whole class.

But internet, they can gather thousands to gang up against you and work together, to torment you constantly. It's a different ball game I believe.

Even when I was a teenager, I already gang up with hackers from different countries to basically mess up other people's computers we don't like. I was 14. But these are usually adults who we felt were bullies. So we become childish online vigilantes. And when they prove they can hack into my computer, I see them taking over my mouse. They were good, but we became friends. They made me softwares that I can click on it to keep making someone I don't like go off line. I tell ya, internet bullying is another ball game. And like my little "internet gang" were from Belgium, Germany, US, Canada and UK. We were all from different places.

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: Black Rifles Matter (9/14/2016 9:28:01 AM)

I didn't read any links, or even recall if links were provided - that said, I'm unclear as to whether or not the individuals in Maine are being required to remove the sign by authorities. If they are, then I would feel compelled to defend their constitutional right to place signs and bumper stickers etc on their personal property. Unless, of course, they live in a community where they agreed to certain bylaws and expectations; Gated Communities, for example.

Personally, I try to maintain a civil and respectful relationship with my neighbors. I mow my grass, weed my yard and keep the property maintained - because I like living in a nice area, and prefer peace to conflict. In that sense, I choose to conform. Not everyone shares my views on conforming to societal expectations to keep the peace. I don't flaunt my personal business or political beliefs (up to and including refusing to place political signs in my yard).

I have participated, in the past, in peaceful demonstrations as well as working phone lines for the political party of my choice (at the time). I guess I just choose to pick my fights, which means fighting my battles in places and at times of my choosing; My home is my sanctuary, I don't invite conflict into it.

All that to say, the sign is clever. I found it kind of amusing. At first, I was supportive of the Black Lives Matter movement. Now, not so much. It has evolved into a lawless terrorist movement that I can't condone. So, my amusement is colored by my own personal beliefs. Then again, I'm a white woman of privilege. Some would say I don't have a right to my opinion on the matter.

Termyn8or -> RE: Black Rifles Matter (9/14/2016 9:34:38 AM)

If I had a kid, he/she would never commit suicide over something as fucking stupid as Facebook. They would have already been taught that when someone fucks with you, you fuck back. A boy would be in Karate school by six, a girl would be in Karate school by four, WITH ME THERE.

When they got out of hand their own Parents would say "GET THE FUCK AWAY". And though we wouldn't call them names they would be taught how to deliver an effective insult without calling names. They would also not be so removes from their Parents so as not come to us if they are having problems.

People with kids who commit suicide over Facebook don't deserve to have kids. (I guess that kinda works out) If you are having troubles and cannot go to your Parents you got no Parents. these are the people who are supposed to teach you life. In the beginning of course how to read and basic math and whatever but once they send you to school they should be inquiring how it went. Used to be "What did you learn in school today ?". Every day.

But things changed.

That is progress.

If some kid wants to die because someone doesn't like them on Facebook, let them, because when they get to the real world they will be alot more miserable.

Visualise this. You only had a bully make fun of your dick in school. What if this bully paste a picture of your face on top of a false dick that is not even yours, and make it go viral. You have strangers from all over the world laughing and commenting on it. It is public, it is online.

Suddenly, your karate can't save you. Most of the time, you may not even know who is the person who did it.

Because internet bullies works on anonymity. How will you defend yourself? And if you were a young kid, your coping ability is different from an adult. To deal with such emotional stress. And to feel helpless because you don't know who is responsible to even retaliate! This isn't a situation you could hunt the perpetrator and take revenge. Most of the time, the problem is when shit happens, you don't know who started it.

Termyn8or -> RE: Black Rifles Matter (9/14/2016 9:45:27 AM)

"I'm unclear as to whether or not the individuals in Maine are being required to remove the sign by authorities."

If the authorities even tried they would be hit with a billion dollar lawsuit. It is totally against the Constitution.

Wanna talk about the KKK and the burning crosses in the frontyards ? Well they weren't THEIR frontyards. I can burn a cross in my frontyard any day of the week. I can put up a sign saying "Ship those n----s back to Africa" (and see how they like it there actually, they would beg to come back)

The only thing they can make you take down is obscenity. The seven words they don't (usually) say on TV, and actually nudity is in question. If you had a replica of Davin, or Cupid and Psyche on your front lawn I am not so sure they could make you take it down. At a liberal university years ago they had two guys rolling around in human feces and call it art, and they didn't have to take it down. It was supposedly art.

But obscenity must be defined by local government, community standards they call it. It would be goddamn hard to define those three words as obscenity.

Now libel and slander they won't make you take it down, they will take pictures and sue for everything you have.

It was upheld by the supreme court. They, since it was the only was they could let the racistsget away with it ruled that the states were not bound by the 2nd even though the constitution had already said that the states were bound to protect the same rights the feds were bound to protect.
