While I have no problem myself with inner-racial, inter-racial, extra-racial, or even hyper-racial relationships, (hell if you could prove that aliens were nice folks and are kinksters, go at it, and I just might too! Woohoo kinky UFO rides!) this profile strikes me as hypocritical because it excludes all but one race for selection and claims no tolerance for racism.

Is being straight (and rigidly so) sexism? Not my personal view, mind you, but just something that came to mind reading your post...

What does being born with the balance of hormones/tools to propagate the species have to do with your choice of whom you chose to propagate (r reasonably pretend to...) the species with?
Unless you're bisexual, and rigidly adhere to heterosexual behavior, than I think it's called homophobia/sexism. I could be wrong though, wink... M

I thought I'd throw in my .02345235 cents and reply to this interesting thread.

I'm all about being liberal and anti-racist, but attraction really isn't a choice. Some people might find dark skin, light skin, etc to simply not be aesthetically pleasing. Just like some guys like girls with big boobs, some girls like guys with huge pecs.

Sure, it might sound offensive to say something like "I don't find asian girls attractive" (which I don't see how that could be possible [;)] ) but it may just be a personal preference totally devoid of any racism/bigotry. I could probably probe deeper and ask a general question like how much of our personal preferences when choosing a mate are generated or influenced by popular media...

However, when people say "whites should only date whites" or something equally nonsensical is when I have a problem. There may be no ostensible difference between choosing a SO solely based on aesthetic preference and choosing a SO solely based on fallicious concepts of racial purity/superiority... but I think that a person has a right to not date blonde guys because they find blonde hair unattractive.

MasterC70 -> RE: Racism? (2/5/2007 11:11:38 PM)

I think one thing that hasn't yet been mentioned (at least not directly) is that racism is a two way street.  I'm reminded of the story of the man who (in his youth) looked for the perfect woman.  The 1st woman was too short, 2nd too unkind, finally after many women (he told a friend) he found her.  The perfect woman.  "Well why didn't you marry her then?" his friend asked.  "Well it's very sad", the man  replied. "She was looking for the perfect man."  Say man x (who is white in this example) prefers black women and writes one at site Z, that doesn't mean that woman y will find man x equally attractive.  She may prefer black or asian men to white men.  Mind I don't know if you can consider a preference of one race over another actual racism or not, but it is often harder to be the other person's romantic ideal than not.  In any event it goes both ways.

I think it boils moreso down to personal preferences. I'm a black domina. There are probably men out there that are simply not attracted to darker skin for some reason. I have no problem with that. I'd be a hypocrite if I *did* have a problem with it. . .because I myself have a LONG list of preferences. Yes, I do get flack for my preferences. . .but I'm attracted to what I'm attracted to. . .and I do not think that any amount of rationalization will change that.

Just my two cents

Jules

i, too, have gotten (and still get) flack for my preferences. it's a part of life.

(btw, i miss seeing Your profile on the other side, Ms Jules)

TreSwank -> RE: Racism? (2/5/2007 11:34:53 PM)

As an individual with a few admittedly borderline racist tendencies, I still find myself pretty freakin' enthralled by voluptuous black and hispanic women. Sexual magnetism is a far more powerful force than one's personal notions of racial superiority.

MissDiscipline -> RE: Racism? (2/5/2007 11:38:51 PM)

My preference is to dominate males of  the human race- I dont  dominate my dogs. In fact My sub can sleep  on my dog's bed if she let's him- Am I a human racist?-

HydroMaster -> RE: Racism? (2/6/2007 12:50:46 AM)

I'd have to say your're reading into it too much.  I prefer brunettes with dark eyes over blondes with say for example pale blue eye.  Does that make me predjudice against blondes with blue eyes, no.  Same goes for race.  If you're not attracted to people of a particular race then you're not.  That doesn't mean you don't like or even love the people of that race. And by God if aliens came down wearing bondage gear and I thought they were hot I'd be all over it.  Don't worry so much about those little details...I think that's how anuerisms get started.  Next thing you know your brain explodes..and all because you thought someone's profile might be racist.  Is it worth it?

I can't believe someone dug this up after the mods had a spankfest earlier.

Ah, chaos and malcontent...my work here is done.

NeedToUseYou -> RE: Racism? (2/6/2007 1:51:58 AM)

I'd say it wouldn't necessarily have to be racist, but a indicator that they might be. There is a huge difference between saying I prefer x race, generally. And saying no one of a particular race is suitable for them. I find it extremely hard to conceptualize a person that would reject a whole race or races as unsuitable partners based only on skin color not having some racist tendencies. How extreme or consequential the beliefs behind those preferences are, is another question.

Personally, it is of little consequence as long as they keep it confined to the bedroom. It's a non-issue really unless it extends further.

NeedToUseYou -> RE: Racism? (2/6/2007 1:53:18 AM)

hrrmmmm, didn't realize this was a year old, thread. I hate that.

There's two options:

1) As you say above, dig beneath the post and there's a person who believes an ethnic group does not match the standards of his/her own ethnic group

or

2) The poster is not attracted to another group in the same way he/she is not attracted to older women based on physical appearance.

Who knows what's going through the mind of such individuals. Closing doors - definitely, racist - probably but not necessarily. Regardless, closing doors based on ethnicity is not exactly covering himself in glory IMO - it smacks of a closed mind.

Yep me too.

OK...in my profile, I have it listed that I only wish to date interracially, and that I prefer Caucasian men (I'm Black). I've dropped the Caucasian reference because I've already had two people ask me why I had that preference. Well, it's because I've had some pretty bad incidences with Black men, and don't wish to date MOST of them at this juncture. Notice that I said prefer, not only.

Now, according to your stated conclusions above, this means that I have racist tendencies?!? Wow. Okay. I just thought that I had a thing for blonds, and that I just have a certain preference right now in my life. I also say that I like a muscular body type. This doesn't mean I'm hating on guys that aren't svelte; I just have a bigger chance of not being attracted to you as a sexual/romantic partner.

Racism and bigotry are incredibly loaded terms, and they're labels that I feel are too commonly used to classify people's actions. In most cases, especially on a dating site, it just means that there may be a preference for aesthetic qualities that are exclusive to a certain culture. Unless someone has the number 88 (or something similar) in their handle along with other questionable things, it's probably not a bigot.

The best way to know is to simply ask. Honestly. Don't sit there and guess. If you're that drawn to the person, reach out and say something. Then again, someone who would judge me without asking probably assumes I'm self-loathing or something.

NorthernGent -> RE: Racism? (2/6/2007 2:59:13 AM)

I said probably but not necessarily. Also, the second sentence in your third paragraph is consistent with my point 2.
