Stop prattling about proof. Proofs exists only in mathematics and publishing, and scientific evidence isn't the only kind. If you don't believe there's a God, that's fine. Have a nice day. The fact remains that you don't actually know, and if you can't live with that uncertainty then you're a candidate for Sunday morning television.

I am certain I do not need to believe in the existence of anything not proven and scientific evidence is the only kind I'll take.

Nobody said that you "need" to believe in anything. Are you being paranoid here, or just defensive?

it is all too often those that profess that somehow others who don't believe are those lacking in something personally or spiritually necessary to 'live with that' if they don't believe in a god as your last statement clearly implies.

Clearly implies?? Okay, fine. Paranoid then.

I come here for laughs and to burst bubbles. I get them and I do.

Well, I'm glad you're having fun. But if you're referring to me, your victory is a hallucination. You can't burst the bubble of someone who admits he doesn't know.

Why the rise of religious extremism? A seemingly simple question

Religion. Does anyone know the death totals, roughly, from the last
One century
Nineteen centuries before that
Begging of time minus the last twenty Centuries

And how does that compare to political/ideological extremism, and death totals war wise, and is religious extremism any worse now, than it has been since the beginning of recorded time

And, could the argument not be made that political - ideological extremism is the bigger devil by a good billion or so.

Now, if I said my answer is to ban all religion am I not equally guilty of bestowing my ideology, and thusly part of the problem not the solution.

Wee Bonny Lad do you know Ken that the Muslims are a religion of fanatical cow downers. They seek to kill anyone for any reason believing the mythological bullshit about shagging the pussies of scores of fantasy virgins in a fantasy heaven. We have had problems with the Muslims under there various name changes for 1500 years and its nothing new. Allah Al Akhbar is the chant when they kill or do harm before they go and jerk off behind some object.

I noticed that you and several others have pulled their dogs out of the debate. You have a misconception about the way god's work as it does not matter what you necessarily 'agree' to believe in, since others can judge for themselves and apply an appropriate G/god to ones course of 'actions', its simply not as simple as you all want to present it.

Koalemos is the god of stupidity, more of a spirit and minor deity.

Of course the majority if not all religions would agree that Koalemos is a 'false god'.

When you say that atheism is a religion because atheists believe there is no god, then you're doing exactly what I said you're doing.

Belief is not the same thing as religion. Since that's such a fundamental conceptual mistake, I have to assume that it's not really a mistake at all; you're just disingenuously pretending that anyone who believes anything must belong to some sort of religion, whether he or she recognizes it or not.

And THAT, my friend, is a word game.

never said, implied, insinuated, dreamed, stated, imagined, or thought it was/is.

no actually its your mistake for drawing false ASSumptions without first comprehending the scope in which I am talking about.

That is known as a strawman argument, which people do when they want to create a dispute they can win.

This has been discussed before and you obviously were not here, or you would not say shit that misrepresents my position much less accuse me of being disingenuous.

I never said or referrred any such thing.

Children and the simple minded cling to an "imaginary friend",which are you?

Clearly one of the imaginary friends you cling to.

tamaka -> RE: Why the rise of religious extremism? (9/30/2016 8:17:21 AM)

The Bible says something about having to have the faith of a small child. Faith is a word that you never hear much anymore.

Stupidity is being certain of something about which we cannot be certain.

It's a shoe that fits a lot of feet... among believers and atheists alike.

I doubt there is a rise in religious zealots.

What we have is a rise in global information and misinformation provided via the internet.

Atrocities committed in the name of faith..... have been around. It is just harder to keep people from finding out about it witb todays technology

The ever-wise WD raises a question I've wondered about since seeing the thread title: Do we know that there's actually been a rise in religious extremism?

Since the state, contrary to the constitution, has established themelves as a religion, absolutely.

Well let's see how smart you really are. The laws of logic which govern the rational universe are immaterial, universal, and absolute.

En archē ēn ho Lógos

Since you are too smart to believe in something immaterial, universal, and absolute, obviously your conclusion doesn't rely on logic.

what an incredibly naïve if not entirely self-serving point of view.

while im here, to clarify, the "faith of a small child" does not have to do with intelligence. it has to do with humility and being teachable.

WhoreMods -> RE: Why the rise of religious extremism? (10/1/2016 8:17:57 AM)

Humility? Small children?
Yeah, right...
