ORIGINAL: WickedsDesire I have been a staunch advocate of the 25 hour week for epochs so i have no idea why it hasn't happened. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Working_time#Average_annual_hours_actually_worked_per_worker The UK borders on barbaric, the USA is a lot worse. Strangely the economic power house Germany has the least followed by countries that have a higher stander of living than eg UK US There have been studies that show the result of greater medical insurance, longer vacation time/maternity leaves, i.e., in a healthier and more rested work force, employees are happier with their jobs and employers and are equally or more productive than their American counterparts who give back (fail to take) more vacation time than any other modern, industrialized country. Yes i always felt like what we do here is a little crazy... between getting ready for work, commuting to and from work, and working... we waste the best years of our lives living for the weekend... which by then we're often tired from working all week and then we get a chance to do all the necessary things to maintain our personal lives (food shopping, cleaning house, fixing things and hopefully getting to spend a little time with people who matter to us). Growing up in a very traditional New England small town... this is what is considered "right". Anything less and you're a slacker. Believe me I have plenty of work ethic but part of me always thought (in my head because i wouldn't dare say it out loud)... isn't this kind of crazy? It is some old- fashioned values that were passed down but honestly, it's kind of stupid. Like they say, no one on their death bed says... i just wish i could have worked more. One of the things that my father told me about why he never wanted to be one of the young hotshots who became engineers like he was but then became managers of engineers which for anybody who cares, is at least a 50-60 hour week. My ole man was perfectly happy as a project engineer (cause he had a 'project') at 8-4:30 and come the fuck home and make good use of his 4 weeks vacation...kinda guy. So I too loved that good but sorta upper-middling level admin. job and wasn't in the office past 4:30 either. I knew two men in their 70's both multi-millionaires who I advised, quit and spend time with family...kids. Their Drs. too. NOPE, yep...croaked virtually...on the job before 75.
