"take them down with a round in the leg##first. "

A gas station owner did that up the street and the thug turned around and killed him.

You are obviously full of shit. You pull that weapon you shoot to kill immediately.

I want to see a picture of you, with the Glock, and a current copy of a local newspaper. Otherwise you are dismissed.

And, you come here and laugh about shit ad claim everyone should give up their guns, yet YOU have one ? Typical anti-gunner, that is IF you have one. you want everyone else to give up theirs but to keep yours.

Shoot them in the leg my ass, no gun training ever teaches that.

Ummmm.... That's exactly what they teach here and for all of our armed officers.
Maybe not a leg but it could be an arm or whatever to disable/disarm.
Shoot to kill is a last resort.
And that's one of the reasons we have less killings here.

Obviously not where you are.

That is one of the differences between some countries with short term training periods of a handful of weeks and other countries with minimum training of 2-3 years for police forces.

Effective use of weapons without killing as well as de-escalation of potentially dangerous situations requires brains and long training.

In Australia we have armed police but the numbers of people killed by the police are a tiny fraction of the US figures. On average, police shoot about 5 people per year with about half of those people subsequently found to suffering mental illness.

"In 2013, the Australian Institute of Criminology released a report detailing fatal police shootings between 1989 and 2011. In that period, police fatally shot 105 people. The victims were almost entirely male and 60% were between 20 and 39 years of age.
Of those persons shot by police, 42% were suffering a mental illness at the time of the shooting. Schizophrenia was the most common illness (59% of those with a mental illness) suffered.

http://theconversation.com/shoot-to-kill-the-use-of-lethal-force-by-police-in-australia-34578

The number of police killed in the course of duty is also far lower than the US figures:
"[].... a study into police deaths in Australia, which showed that 15 officers were killed by attacks in Australia between 1991 and 2007. Stabbings or shootings were the main causes of death." ibid.

Police here receive a year's training before graduate as probationary officers. I am not sure how much firearm training they receive. In armed confrontations (where possible), specialist armed police groups (SWAT teams) are deployed. The over riding priority in such situations is a peaceful resolution of the situation. It is not clear to me that this priority is shared by US police in confrontations with members of the public, armed or otherwise.

how long were you in the marines?

according to her profile, she is from the uk, so I am going to guess never. And if she is smart she won't come here and chance getting shot. Way to dangerous and much better to stay away. Not sure why she thinks someone getting shot is so funny but I have heard they have a strange sense of humor across the pond so maybe that's it.

Do you have anything showing how many people were arrested in both countries?

Why don't we go all Tom Mix here and say you need to shoot the gun out of his hand instead of doing bodily damage? - daily facetious comment.

Shoot them in the arm or leg? Shoot the gun out of there hand? Well hell why not just bitch slap their mommas?
Wile shooting the gun out of their hand is obviously sarcasm these are the stupidest ideas I have ever heard. Along with outlawing guns. Because we all know when the guns are outlawed 100% of criminals are going to happily turn theirs in as well.

If a situation has reached the point to where I have to point my gun at someone I am not going to attempt to wound them because by that time I have been threatened with my life.
If I die during this confrontation my body will be found in a pile of smoking and spent shells.
I will however be shooting for the center of the body and if I take them down they will not survive.

END OF THE NEWS.
hope your dog bites you. x

You don't know what you are talking about, we have over 50,000 gun laws.
Huge portions of our population cannot legally own a firearm, and most crimes are committed by those people.

dear termyn.
you really are bitter and twisted, however...
it is about 3000 miles not 10.
I do have a Glock 17,
with a 96% average result.
and when we use guns here, we usually do not kill everyone.
black or white.
take them down with a round in the leg##first.

Is not likely you legally own a Glock. Outside of the Isle of Man, Channel Islands or Northern Ireland there has been a ban and confiscation of virtually ALL handguns since 1997. So I call BS on that one.

2-3 YEARS to train a cop? Where does the money come from?
Pay a man for three year to not help on the streets?
I find that hard to believe.
How long do they have to sign up for?
Friends of mine tell stories of seeing people being beaten to a pulp for saying agreesive threatening things like what when dealing with German cops.

Well, there is the femoral artery. But for the record, I still think it would be stupid to make that your aim point. Shoot to kill or don't shoot at all.
