Status: offline 		Even Saturday Night Live, it seems, has joined the vast left-wing conspiracy.


Saturday night, SNL opened with a mocking reenactment of the second presidential debate. The parody included the moderators taking shots, a kung fu style greeting between Trump and Hillary Clinton and an ode to town hall questioner -- and 15-minute celebrity -- Ken Bone.

But the biggest laughs came from Alec Baldwin's portrayal of a stalking, lewd, deceptive Trump. The live SNL audience was cracking up, but apparently the real Trump wasn't.

In a tweet, the Republican nominee said that Baldwin's portrayal "stinks." He also called on NBC to end its "boring and unfunny" show. And he said that SNL was trying to rig the election against him.

Trump has been increasingly targeting the media as the culprit of his poor polling numbers. He has repeated the refrain of a "rigged" election since the virtually tied race started to slip away from him following the first debate on September 26. Since then, Clinton has led most polls by a comfortable margin.

Status: offline 		Trump is correct inasmuch as the predominantly left-leaning media engages in a false narrative - as they did with Bernie Sanders.

It's not so much conspiracy as group-think. The pseudo-journalists today are not concerned with journalistic integrity, ethics or independent confirmation. They're concerned with click-bait. Frankly, I think the privileges that have been traditionally extended to the fourth estate should be curtailed somewhat. The Freedom of the Press should remain a constitutional principle, but the responsibility to report accurately should be further enshrined in legislation.

As for placing constraints on the press to report the truth . . . the truth is often relevant, innit? And we basically have a free market in ideas. We should leave it be. Who is to judge the truth? In what venue? A ticklish problem you pose, to say the least.

You're missing the point. This election has seen the press engage in an astonishing level of inaccurate reporting with the aim of influencing the election outcome. That is not the purpose of the fourth estate. The fourth estate is meant to bring truth to the citizens to provide another component of the checks and balances which prevent our democracy from turning into an oligarchy or a plutocracy.

It has failed. The cap-in-hand whoring out of the media to corporate interests is a stain upon American journalism - there are precious few journalists left (and bloggers like those amateurs at Gawker are NOT journalists).

The tame, partisan press is a fucking disgrace - and it wouldn't be so bad except that Fox's lack of professionalism is counter-balanced in equal measure by MSNBC and the Washington Post. There are almost no journalists who are prepared to do the one thing which is their actual job - tell the truth.

Believing in the invisible hand of the free market to solve all your problems is nutty religious extremism. Aynd Rand was a fucking cunt and so are the people who support her whacky fucking ideology.

Truth can be judged by fact checking and holding news organisations accountable for the claims they make. It requires vigilance and a commitment to accuracy rather than a slavish hunger for clicks.

They clearly have brought an individual with a notorous financial background to the brink of presidency.



That is not the purpose of the fourth estate. The fourth estate is meant to bring truth to the citizens to provide another component of the checks and balances which prevent our democracy from turning into an oligarchy or a plutocracy.

After the first few seasons SNL went down the tubes, and should have been cancelled back then. When John Belushi died that was really the last nail in their coffin.

His brother IIRC, Jim Belushi did a movie called The Palermo Connection, a serious piece, no comedy. I recommend it.

I've tried to get the first few seasons of SNL and the internet has let me down, even P2P. I want Eddie Murphy's debut (almost) doing "Kill My Landlord". Of course it is politically incorrect so the chances of getting it are slim and none and slim left town.
