If a bullet exists a rifle barrel traveling at 1200 metres per second, at 500 feet above sea level with an ambient temperature of 68 degrees Fahrenheit and a relative humidity of 59%, how far will it travel before the individual calculating this nonsense loses the fucking will to live?

It's not going to happen Bama. Two things WILL happen though. Firstly, the crims will still get guns. There is always somebody willing to supply them and there are ways of getting modern weapons into almost any country on earth, without them costing an arm or a leg. There may not be as many as there currently are, but they will be there. Secondly, it turns everybody who owns a gun of any sort into a criminal. Even the most law-abiding of citizens who only keeps that old pistol of grandpa's for sentimental reasons is made into a criminal the minute that law is passed.

You left out the most important factors, how far above the ground is the rifle when the bullet is fired, what angle it is fired at and is the ground level. All bullets drop at the same rate, however the range is determined by velocity and angle.

The Remington 30-06 accelerator was listed at 4080 fps according to Remington's website. 25-06 87 gr Horniday 4,300 204 and 17 Rem over 4,000 Roy Weatherby shot 30-378 to 4,800 fps Lazzaroni Scramjet (6.5 mm) over 4,000 fps. There are lots of bullets that will break 1200 m/s. The reason you don't see it in big bores like a .338 is barrel life and the fact that you don't pick up a .338 intending to shoot light bullets. The BC drops fast and it doesn't make it marketable, stable, cheap or comfortable. But, they'll do it if you want to be silly. Barnes is making a .338 160 gr TTSX. Someone is burning barrels shooting it fast, I saw curve somewhere. You look it up.

I noticed that countries that had confiscations had had registration in place for a long time before. I'll note that in the US a gun without papers is worth twice as much as the same model with papers. Also, there were so many gun manufacturers in the past that they could never find all the papers on them and people will keep them. T^T
