The increasingly erratic President of the Phillippines Duterte had an encounter with the Almighty while flying back home from Japan in the past few days. As Duterte tells it, God and Duterte exchanged words while everyone else on the plane was sleeping ...... "Arriving in his home city of Davao after a trip to Japan, Mr Duterte said God gave him an ultimatum on the plane. "I heard a voice telling me to stop swearing or the plane will crash in mid-air, and so I promised to stop," he told reporters at the airport. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-37795957 According to Duterte, God told him to stop cursing but curiously God remained silent about his "war on drug dealers" that has claimed the lives of several thousand Phillippines and attracted mounting international criticism from Govts concerned about the extra judicial killings incited by Duterte. Duterte who recently called Pres Obama "son of a whore" and famously cursed him, is known for his earthy language. One wonders about a God whose sensibilities are offended by naughty words but remains unmoved by the slaughter of thousands of ordinary Phillippinos. One wonders about the fate of the Phillippines who seems to have an Awareness level fruitcake in the person of Duterte already installed in the Presidency. I have an ominous feeling this is going to turn out badly for all involved. Are my feelings misplaced?

Philippines is literally a country where divorce and abortion is against the law. Very very religious, very very catholic. So not surprised! IF he uses God. His approval ratings will go up!

FR This takes me right back to my childhood, in which the family used to sit around the telly of a Sunday, knowing that we could have an all-day diet of war films ... but no nasty nudey stuff or anything with swear words in it. God loves people being killed, but hates tits, bums and bad language. You know it makes sense.

New Zealand Sundays weren't fabulous either - mainly because we knew that we had to go to school the next morning....... and I really preferred it when Disney was the cartoon world rather than the animal world - even though I liked the animal shows. [:D]
