respectmen -> White male privilege theory is a sham (10/29/2016 12:09:27 PM)

Me as a white male, I've never felt any fucking privilege over others different to me in my whole bloody life. Sure, I may have in times before I was born. If we are so uber super privileged like the loony left keeps claiming, all white males would strongly feel this invisible privilege. I can't be angry or frightened of having privileges taken away from my demographic when I have never felt any to begin with.

Privilege is a class issue, not a gender or race issue. The only white males who are privileged are the ones at top. The powerlessness of the other white men, the other 99.999 percent of the white male population are just as powerless as the next woman or person of colour.

Privilege isn't specific to white males. It's racist and sexist to believe it's a white male specific phenomenon. It's also racist and sexist to imply that just because a small subset of white males are privileged, you paint all white males as privileged. It's also racist and sexist to imply that just because a small subset of white males have done evil to women and people of colour, that means the whole demographic of white males should have guilt, shame, blame placed on them.

If white males are so privileged, how come both asian men and jewish men on a general basis both out earn white men?

White male privilege my fucking arse.

So I would just like to say a big fuck you to you leftist/feminazi cuntbags.

Whoa . . . I know a fucking bunch of Jewish men. They sure as shit are all white, except the ends of their dicks, which I am told are missing.

Aw, you poor thing. Feeling a little deprived today are we? tsk, tsk.

LadyPact -> RE: White male privilege theory is a sham (10/29/2016 12:40:04 PM)

You don't "feel" it because it's always been there.

When was the last time you got pulled over for 'driving while white'?

When was the last time you were told you couldn't use a bathroom at a department store?

When was the last time you went to a job interview, and based on your appearance, the interviewer had a preconceived notion that you would take more days off than the other applicants?

When was the last time that you were walking down the street, and had to question holding hands with your lover?

When was the last time you took your car in for service and the mechanic treated you differently based on your gender?

Some folks don't see "privilege" because it's like the air they breathe. It's been there and it's always been there. That chip on your shoulder clouds your vision.

Not for him. I doubt the whiny babyman has ever experienced a moment of bliss in his entire life. He wouldn't spend his time here creating hundreds of threads bemoaning the endless miseries the women/feminists of the world have inflicted upon him if it were otherwise.

Christ, RM ... I cannot see how you have not *got* this by now. As LP put it: "You don't "feel" it because it's always been there. "

Can you really not grasp how all this works? So many of the things that you take for granted and don't even think about, many people *cannot* take for granted. It happens every day, in a zillion ways.

Thus, I'll walk home late at night and won't have a fear in the world. I'm as big as anybody else around me. It never, ever, enters my mind that somebody will attack me. I do not have to think of half of the people around me - men, that is - being so much bigger and stronger than me. I mean, think about it: imagine if half the people there were, were a third bigger and stronger than you. Imagine that. While you're at it - imagine if those people who were bigger and stronger by a third, were also wired to be more aggressive. And could stick bits of their bodies *inside your body* ... and make you pregnant.

All right, forget all that. Just answer yourself this: would you really like to be a woman - the average woman, that is? Because, male sub that I am, I'm pretty damned sure *I* wouldn't.

kiwisub22 -> RE: White male privilege theory is a sham (10/29/2016 3:08:42 PM)

I'm not sure that anyone can imagine - truly grasp what it's like to be other than what they are. I have a couple of friends who happen to be black and we have a great relationship, but I don't know what it was like for them to grow up, or be other than me.

To use Peons example - I would never walk home after dark. I'm aware that the probability of me getting attack is fairly slim, but it's always there - especially in parking decks for some reason.

I don't think I know many men that have the same issue.

Likewise I know that if I apply for a job, and a man applies for the same job, regardless of experience, the man will probably get it. And in my field - nursing - men compromise a large segment of administration.

For that matter, I don't know what it's like to grow up in an abusive household. I have always had loving parents, so I can grasp the concept of growing up unloved, but I can't feel it viscerally.

With this in mind I'm open to the idea that white male privilege is something that is not able to be understood, just taken as read.

How can you exactly prove if a cop pulls a person over for being black or for being any race or gender? You can't, it's impossible. So therefore, this is based on assumption, not fact. To assume that a person is being evil based on their race (being a white cop) is racist within its self as you would not assume that with a black cop pulling over a white person.

I've felt like that I've been unfairly singled out by police before. I think everyone from every background has in their life. The only PROVEN racism I see here are the ones assuming a cop is evil based on their whiteness.

quote:

When was the last time you were told you couldn't use a bathroom at a department store?

In my generation and in the country I live, I've never seen in my whole life a person of colour being rejected to take a piss or dump based on their skin colour. Is this another lefty fantasy like the one above? If it happened elsewhere and not in my life time, how can that make me privileged again?

quote:

When was the last time you went to a job interview, and based on your appearance, the interviewer had a preconceived notion that you would take more days off than the other applicants?

Based on appearance? Can you explain this more?

quote:

When was the last time that you were walking down the street, and had to question holding hands with your lover?

Is this about sexual orientation rather than gender and race?

quote:

When was the last time you took your car in for service and the mechanic treated you differently based on your gender?

Last time I checked, people from every gender and race have been fucked over by mechanics. I did last year by a lot. My previous next door neighbour who was also white male fell victim to the same mechanic. Mechanics who are dishonest usually talk to you and try to figure how much you know about cars by talking to you. They will act all nice and have general conservation while in the meantime thinking how they can fuck you over.

People from any gender or race get taken for a ride all the time. Don't be pathetic and only claim its considerable when it happens to women.

quote:

Some folks don't see "privilege" because it's like the air they breathe. It's been there and it's always been there. That chip on your shoulder clouds your vision.

And some folks just imagine privilege due to their own racism/sexism.

Last time I checked, males are more likely to be victims of violent crime and homicide.

The chances of carrying out a full on rape in a public place is low. People need privacy for that shit. The fact of the matter is that statistically speaking, being a male makes you more likely a victim of non sexual violent crimes.

Awareness -> RE: White male privilege theory is a sham (10/29/2016 3:39:50 PM)

Of course it's a fucking sham.

If the Islamic nutters end up ruling the world - or perhaps the Chinese - do you think they're going to feel guilty for coming out on top?

European societies have been successful. Many of them are white. The fact that white people in white societies have access to the benefits of that society is somehow surprising? What the fuck do you think happens in Islamic societies? Do you think they're falling over themselves to increase access for under-represented Jews?

Fuck, people are stupid.

vincentML -> RE: White male privilege theory is a sham (10/29/2016 8:03:36 PM)

~FR~

In his own whiny way RM brings up an interesting question which I can only approach from my American point of view. I can't speak to what is bothering the poor guy in his homeland.

Whither white male privilege? In my country white male privilege was historically white Anglo-Saxon Protestant. The Kennedy's were the last of the Northeastern Elites who made their establishment connections at boarding schools like Choate and Groton, went on to Harvard and then ascended to the heights of power in Washington. Kennedy was notoriously Irish and Catholic, nevertheless, he gathered the cream of the Elite around him. Since then the Presidency has been occupied by "outsiders." none of them really connected to the storied elite establishment. Much of that old establishment was blown away as a result of the disaster in Vietnam with other contributing movements in the 1960s. . . a pivotal decade in our history.

The clash in the current election between Hillary (disaffected women/racial coalition) and Trump (angry, white, high school reactionary men) has its roots in the violent 1960s. We are in the midst of a huge social conflict that arises from our history. That's my main point. The tide has turned against white male privilege.

Of lesser importance but worth mentioning is RM's appalling ignorance when he says:

quote:

In my generation and in the country I live, I've never seen in my whole life a person of colour being rejected to take a piss or dump based on their skin colour. Is this another lefty fantasy like the one above? If it happened elsewhere and not in my life time, how can that make me privileged again?

I do apologize he has been unaffected by Jim Crow Laws and lynchings of black men.

OTOH, you do raise a legitimate point, matey. Fact is you ain't privileged. As RO has written (borrowing from George Carlin) It's a big club; you and I ain't in it.

So, tough shit. Stop whining and play the hand you were dealt.

respectmen -> RE: White male privilege theory is a sham (10/29/2016 8:19:23 PM)

The fact of the matter is that privilege is a class issue. Whoever is at the top, blacks, women, they will oppress the rest of us too.

I don't think I know many men that have the same issue.

Many years ago, a female friend and I shared an apartment. Whenever a female guest left, my roommate always had her call to say she'd arrived safely.

One evening, the guest in question lived just two buildings down the street, and I rolled my eyes. My roommate pointed out, "When you're out after dark, you might worry about being mugged. We worry about being raped."

Oh.

That seemingly obvious point had never before pierced my bubble of privilege.

That was the last time I rolled my eyes about "got home safely" calls.

Look, you ignorant, arrogant shit, you should at least have some sense of our history before you comment in reply to a post on here. RM's suggestion that racism is a lefty fantasy because he has never witnessed it is stupid. American history and society did not wait for his birth to begin. Neither has Australia's history been without racial violence, has it? No, it hasn't.

One huge area of privilege I took for granted most of my life was being able-bodied.

Navigating the world with an oxygen tank in tow has been quite an education.

I am well acquainted with your history. I am aware the US government is an oathbreaker, having signed no less than six treaties with the Sioux and having broken every one of them. I also know the number of treaties with Native Americans which the US has broken numbers in the hundreds. I know that Africans sold each other into slavery and that the Islamic slave trade was amongst the biggest and most profitable in human history. I know the concept of people as property did not originate with Caucasians and is, in fact, an aspect of many civilisations throughout history. I also know the American Revolution started because rich men wanted to make even more money than they were already making. Believe me, Americans are not known for their cogent understanding of their own history, so you'll forgive me if I find your question just a tad fucking ironic.

quote:

RM's suggestion that racism is a lefty fantasy because he has never witnessed it is stupid.
RM suggested that a person of color being denied access to a bathroom in this day and age was a leftist fantasy. And it is.

quote:

American history and society did not wait for his birth to begin. Neither has Australia's history been without racial violence, has it? No, it hasn't.
No. It hasn't. However history is written by the winners and the lands of our ancestors were invaded multiple times by multiple peoples. Aboriginals are often caught between two cultures, but the issue of Aboriginal land rights in Australia has been handled significantly better than in the USA with enormous swathes of land being returned to the traditional owners. 50% of the Norther Territory (some 1.4 million square kilometres) is in the hands of the traditional owners. The establishment of native title occurred decades ago and procedures to investigate and resolve native title claim are well established.

Successful civilisations are built on blood, because human beings compete for resources. That's the ugly truth. However, I'd love to see someone supply an example of any other civilisations which have given a goddamn about the natives of the lands they've invaded, because that particular fucking characteristic seems to be confined to Western civilisations alone. The Muslims and Asians do not give a flying fuck, so you'll have to forgive me if I piss on anyone's lecturing about the evils of the conquering white man. Those unthinking morons who are part of the victim-hood industry can shove their white guilt squarely up their historically-uneducated, philosophically-ignorant fucking asses.

Indeed. I was on crutches for a while. The world was a different place while I was on them. I doubt if either of our experiences were unique or the exception.

I'm with you on that one, Myself. I buggered up my lower back in the gym some while ago and had to walk with a stick for a week. God did I later appreciate the privilege of being able to walk properly again.
