quote:
ORIGINAL: Awareness and called her political opponent's constituency a "basket of deplorables." What kind of politician is so inept they insult the people they're trying to win over? My biggest issue with that was later in the quote, where she called them "irredeemable." There's no question that Trump and some of his supporters have poisoned the political dialogue in this country. For example, it's a true statement that HRC is a servant of international financial interests. But now, if I say that, people can reasonably complain, "International financial interests is anti-Semitic code for Jews." And I don't mean it that way, but some of Trump's loudest supporters do. So there's plenty of deplorable beliefs out there. But you know what? Racism rises when people feel desperate and poor, and it recedes when people feel hopeful and employed at living wage jobs. Get people employed and proud of their communities again, and a lot of that will fall away. About identity politics: you may already know this, but a slang term for the US recession of 2008 was "mancession," because so many more men lost jobs than women. I think a lot of what motivated the election turnout was, "Hey what about me?" Not hatred of gay marriage or trans rights or anti anything else, but a desire to assert, "I'm important too."
