just read a little bit ago that Barbara boxer's going to be introducing a bill when the senate returns to session, to abolish the electoral college.

I was watching one of those You Tube live video feeds a couple of hours ago, and it was, I think, the senate already discussing the possibility.

Can you imagine if trump won the Popular Vote but Hillary won the Electoral College? The trump supporters would have been marching through Washington D.C., with their guns and all, screaming how the process is rigged. Yet, they are fine, just as long as their guy gets in. What a joke.

Since the right has never done this that is only paranoid conjecture and an obvious case of projection to justify leftist misconduct. We want to believe they would do it so it is ok for us to.

Really? The popular vote in which election? See, that's the problem with this line, there wasn't one election, there were 50 of them, and Trump won the popular vote in the majority of those 50 elections.

Very good point. But there is also DC.

They will never abolish the EC as long as we are the USA.

Ya, nobody in the Midwest will vote for it.

And rightly so.

I always thought that whoever wins the Popular Vote, should be the President. That's how true Democracy works. We do it with Governors, Mayor, Senates races and so on. This is twice now, in the last 16 years, when the person who won the popular vote lost, because of the rigged Electoral College. Al Gore had more votes than Bush and Hillary has more votes than Trump. In both cases, we are stuck with 2 Presidents who are hell bent on bringing this nation down. The only reason there wasn't an uproar when Obama became President, is because he actually did win the Popular Vote and the majority of Americans clearly wanted Obama as President. Unlike this rigged system we have now.

Actually it isn't rigged at all this way and it actually would be, in fact, a rigged system if we used the popular vote.

You know Boxer's bill has to get out of committee, then past the house, and ratified by 38 states, right?

It's a Constitutional Amendment and needs, I believe, 2/3 of Senate and 3/4 of States to pass it. Does anyone imagine North Carolina, Florida, Iowa, Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, or any one of another dozen small states agreeing to it?

North Dakota splits in 2 and I think one other state allocates by region.

They'd never see a presidential candidate again unless it was because of Autumn leaf season.

Considering that from it's very inception this country has used the electoral college, I doubt even some of the states that voted blue would go for it.

A few days before the election I found a page on nate silvers site that tracked presidential election voting trends by county, in every state. Easy to view map. Every county outlined, filled in red or blue. Meant to go back and look at it and compare the counties versus the state as a whole, but since my laptop is in the shop and I am relying on my phone, I ain't bothered. But I will. Eventually.

It would require a constitutional amendment. That would require approval of 37 states , not going to happen.

Rapey Bill 'won' both of his terms with less than 50% of the 'popular' vote. The first just 43%. The second 49.2%.

A "true Democracy" is three wolves and a sheep voting on lunch. The United States is a constitutional republic comprising a union of States. The Electoral system currently in place is designed to give each of those States a representative portion of the Electoral vote based on the winner of the popular vote in the State. It isn't "rigged" except in your feverish imagination.

K.

A comedian doing an election night show said that since Nate Silver had given Clinton a 70% probablility of winning, given the actual result, he should now probably change his name to Nate Bronze.
I was thinking of something more appropriate, like Nate Participation Trophy.
