For my ears the most cringe worthy abominations are badly done English (of whichever region) or US southern accents by non-natives, either case.

What's even worse, in a way, is when the producers foist an American accent on a British native when not necessary. One that rankles me utterly is having Helen Mirren assume American accent in the film The Clearing, with Robert Redford. The latter's character was some big business fellow, so I don't see how it was impossible to have worked in his meeting a lady from England while on one of his earlier business trips. In the event, the writers/producers denuded half the charm of Ms. Mirren in forcing to her sound and act like some Hollywood-standard American housewife rather than doing anything to accommodate her more innate talents by way of voice and inflection of her natural tongue. She did a great job, as always, but what an ungodly waste.
