I have two things regarding him.

First, I saw many times people are complaining about a controlling husband, and similar cases. Why those controlling people switch to BDSM and become healthy, rather that being vanilla and accused with abusing their partners? Do they even know about our lifestyle?

Secondly, when he speaks I hear him say this:
"I’ll not help you, I’ll bring a professional help for you. I’ll give you very tiny advice, and then I’ll redirect you to a professional. You know I’m just an electrician!" lol

Well, he gives very good advices most of the time.

What do you think?

Master96,

Because there is a difference between wiitwd and a controlling abusive man. Someone that is an abusive controller isn't doing with with consent, they are doing it by manipulation.. big diff

I lost respect for Phil when he interviewed Bush during the re-election campaign.  I thought he was going to slip him the tongue!

What do I think? Like nails on a chalkboard is what I think. I estimate that I've watched a sum total of about 20 or 30 minutes of him and that's more than enough. I don't respect people who use other people's problems as a means of self promotion and grandstanding even if I do happen to agree with them in theory.

Agreed. It is sad hen a professional turns to the levels of Jerry Springer to highlight other peoples woes is distatefull and sad to me. Not sure about the US mind set, but people I know here would walk a 100 miles to find another therapist than use the likes of him, especial;ly when any therapist openly uses the "Your wrong, I'm right and I'm the expert so you do what I tell you" attitude.... His advise if usually good but badly delivered from my view.

The purpose is only to start a discussion and bring light onto the "problem"  getting them to see that they may need help  From there they direct them to someone who has time to sit with them and help.

Dr Phil was well known for his relationship seminars and counseling before Oprah made him a household name.

Lol. No need to run. My slave likes him too. I think that Dr. Phil is more of a female thing than a male one.

Master96,

I think that he is right, for most of his guests need more help than a friendly word of advice. I prefer advice, but I do not have that much drama in my life.. if I did I would need a shrink too.

I think Doc Phil is perfect for the camera---but he doesn't (or can't) spend enough time using the TV to really know a person he gives advice to. He's nice to listen to, he has some good ideas.

Seen a few of his shows, used to ome on before the evening news out here.

He's a half step above Jerry Springer... Springer runs a freak-show, Phil has some delusion that he's trying to help.

In all fairness, Dr Phil is the latest in a long line of completely inadequate mass-media psycologists. He is at least saying "You're so fucked up we can't solve your problems in this 15, 20, 30 minute spot." On the other hand that's true for us all.

He's got a midwestern straightforward sensibility about personal behavior, not that it's a bad thing, but like all things it can be a double edged sword. He's good at getting through self-delusional bullshit, but often blinds himself to truely convoluted issues.

I don't hate 'em, I don't like 'em either. He's not worth the effort to have a strong emotion about.

Just my $0.02

I think Dr. Phil is a 'tard. He's Jerry Springer with a nicer suit.

Were you on his show long enough to really form that strong of an opinion about him?

I used to like Dr. Phil.  Now, it seems as though he is more concerned about helping his wallet, than helping anyone else.  How many books and TV shows can one person do in a short time?  Now he is advising on Match dot com.  Get real!

I used to like him a lot for telling people straight up when they were full of chit; now I'm bored with him because he seems too much about putting on an attention grabbing show; indeed sometimes he is starting to take the direction of Jerry Springer, but overall, I think that is a very  harsh/untrue accusation.  I do think he is involved with doing too many things to promote himself lately.   M
