I can't say that I always like how he delivers his statements or his holier-than-thou approach.. but the one good thing he does is getting issues out in the open. If the issues brought up on his show can get people to feel not so alone in their issues at home, or understand an issue more than I think there is a service being done. On Jerry Springer.. I can't say that many of his topics are really even trying to educate anyone.. of course I haven't seen him in a long time so maybe he changed but I doubt it.

Well, I didn’t know that. But Dr Phil has a message board, here is the link: http://www.drphil.com/messageboard/

Should I ask people there what they think of BDSM?

Were you on his show long enough to really form that strong of an opinion about him?

No I've never been on his show but I'm sure there are some here that were.

The Springer show is like watching an accident happen in slow motion, I just can't take my eyes off of  it.

The one thing it does have going for it is- even if  you think your life is in the toilet.. you can KNOW there is somebody out there doing worse.-  bless their hearts :)

LOL!

I expect that you may be right.

I haven't had a TV for the better part of a year (by choice), but Dr. Phil did come on when I was waiting for the youngsters to do their homework after schol, so I saw more of his show than I cared to.

Seemed like more bread and circuses to me.

I can't stand him!  He gets on someone's back and isn't happy until he has them reduced to tears.

I think he's full of shit and laughs all the way to the bank.
Why do people watch people like him, Opra and Springer anyway?

I have two things regarding him.

First, I saw many times people are complaining about a controlling husband, and similar cases. Why those controlling people switch to BDSM and become healthy, rather that being vanilla and accused with abusing their partners? Do they even know about our lifestyle?

Secondly, when he speaks I hear him say this:
"I’ll not help you, I’ll bring a professional help for you. I’ll give you very tiny advice, and then I’ll redirect you to a professional. You know I’m just an electrician!" lol

Well, he gives very good advices most of the time.

What do you think?

Master96,

To advise a BDSM life is too far out of bounds. The definition of normal or healthy behaviour is still growing and sometimes shrinking. It depends on who you go to for advice. Happiness is too often compared to some fanciful norm. If you are happy, but living too far out of the norm, then you must be defective and not able to realise you are not actually happy. It's a wonderful catch 22, that you can also be delusionally happy. There are of course many ready to cure you of this sad bliss.

Have you ever noticed the striking resemblance between Dr. Phil and Dabney Coleman? (Dabney played the mean boss in the movie "9-5"

...We don't have so many *home-grown* shows of this sort but they are increasing. They DO have the knack of making you just a TEENY bit grateful for anything remotely good in your own life....not to mention the fact that no matter how *fucking out-there* your life may seem, your family members haven't decided to even attempt to resolve it on a tasteless, naff TV show...LOL.
