Female scientists get $10,000 extra cash if they have kids to stay. This doesn't get extended to single dads.

Parental child leave extends to fathers in Denmark, Sweden, etc.

But then you call them 'communists' for the effort.

Make up your mind, boy.

Well, of course, if you wish to keep talented people you should compensate them. I wonder how many single male scientists have children? Not so much, I betcha.

In all likelihood, the men are already earning $10,000 more than the women, yet you're not bleating about that inequality.

You were probably larfing or whinging to hard to notice.

freedomdwarf1 -> RE: Female scientists with young children offered extra $10,000 annually (12/17/2016 11:05:14 AM)

I just had a quick look at Professionals Australia [PDF].

According to them, The 2016 Professional Engineers Employment and Remuneration Survey found a pay differential between male and female respondents with female respondents reporting a median total package of $101,100, 24% lower than their male counterparts at $133,154.

So... not AU$10,000 but more like AU$32,000!!

Of course, RM doesn't see this bit because it's not male sexism.
He's far too busy picking out the odd bits of male sexism that get reported and ignores the myriad of female sexism all over the globe.

So even if the females are tempted with an extra AU$10k to stay in their jobs, they are still waay short on equality when it comes to salary.

And, as usual, RM just sees the headlines that fit his personal tedious agenda... and bleats. [:-]

ETA: his bleat is: "This doesn't get extended to single dads".
Maybe because they are already earning $32k and more than their female counterparts??
Yeah, right. He didn't bring that inequality up at all - conveniently side-stepped it.

Of course you and shit for brains stef still can't comprehend that the pay gap theory has been debunked over and over. The damn myth has more lives than a cat.

From that same study:

quote:

Equal pay rates for entry level and early-career roles signal that most organisations provide competitive remuneration at this stage. However, as experience increases the pay gap emerges and widens, suggesting factors relating to career progression for women are impacting their earnings. Barriers preventing the advancement and progression of female engineers can include balancing work/life responsibilities, career breaks, workplace culture, differential access to mentoring and networking opportunities and the lack of access to senior roles for women.

So men and women enter the profession at the same rate of pay. There starts to be some differentiation after a little bit of time, as women make life choices or take career breaks. These are choices, and I would fully expect that if a woman takes a break from work, her compensation wouldn't necessarily be equivalent to someone else who didn't take that break.

Workplace culture and lack of access to senior roles for women - perhaps there's something there. I'm not familiar enough to say yes or no. Unfortunately, it's so incredibly socially unacceptable to speak against this conception that the possibility that it is a misconception will not get any serious attention.

I would be insulted as fuck if I was offered compensation because I gave birth. I can't believe that any self-respecting woman would accept that.

And I get insulted as fuck when people-who don't have children and have no idea what single parents who work have to deal with-make judgmental statements about parents of either gender and what they would do to maintain good jobs and maintain a home for their family.

Our Federal Income Tax system compensates families for having dependent children. How is that insulting?

The fact that you clearly know nothing about Kaliko is exemplified by your whiny, self-righteous little waah-fest.

Strange as it may seem, some parents don't think society should compensate them for breeding. That's called "being an adult".

No, it hasn't.

The most you can say is that the claim 'has been questioned'.

No, it hasn't been debunked, though you like to think so.
Most sites that debunk the theory take everything into account including life choices that many women make.
It's a simple logical mistake to make and not a fair comparison.

While there are differences due to life choices, those females that choose to stay in work often get paid less than their male counterparts.

Every single graph on that site shows the pay differential between male and female workers doing the same job.
The median difference is about $32k - that's no small change.

Absolutely agree with you, no woman who has a child wants or needs to have reliable income to feed, care, clothe, bring up her offspring.

I'm not insulted by assistance provided to those in need, or tax codes applicable to everyone. I would definitely be insulted if my workplace compensated me for something other than my merit. No...I cannot understand being okay with that.

LOL. It's actually find of funny. The fact that you say that shows that you know nothing about Awareness.

God, Awareness, we are so misunderstood!
