I am not starting this thread to add to the partisan squabbles easily found on 99% of the other threads on here.

But, we all know its going to happen.

It is evident everywhere that the next 4 years in the United States are going to be politically turbulent and excruciating.

This country and the world is at a precipice.
We are going to have to find some ways to work out differences, and find many middle of the road solutions, or continue to become even more fractured.

Adversity often makes people/and situations stronger, the citizenry will either become stronger, build some bridges, and learn to work together for the good of ALL the citizens, or we will all suffer the consequences.

At some point, many of us, WILL have to realize, it is not always MY WAY, THEIR WAY or THE HIGHWAY--it often has to be OUR WAY.
Or again, we all will suffer the consequences.

United we will learn to stand, or divided we may fall.

In the end, I have to believe that MOST people despite having extreme differences of opinions, outlooks, and political beliefs want what is best for our country, our families, our children's futures, future generations, and this planet that we call Earth.
Right now, this is the only livable planet that we have to live on.

Hang on to your hat's the next 4 years are going to be the bumpiest, most turbulent political ride many of us have ever experienced, in our lifetime.
I hope for the sake of this country and this world/this planet that we can actually create bridges, instead of relentless discord.

Please save the partisan bitching and bickering for every other thread on here.
I would love to see some messages of hope if possible.

Too late. The US is already in the beginning stages of destruction through faction. Exactly what our founding fathers knew destroyed Greece and Rome yet failed to codify any prevention or what was...has been ignored even constitutionally.

Will not happen. In fact I watch what's called the 'Washington Journal' on C-Span most every morning and it has become a comedy because of the unadulterated ignorance demonstrated by the callers.

Plus, none of the above was ever shown during the 8 of Obama years. The partisan bickering started day 1 and continued unabated.

Yes, it will be a tortured admin. for the country under Trump and the repubs and if 2008-16 were even a slight example and if Trump is and repubs are ere-elected. that will prove me correct.

The country will survive with the poor even poorer, the rich richer and the country on all levels...further in debt. Billion$ more will be thrown at the MIC, corp. welfare while most everything else will be cut. We will continue to have blandishments for the rich and austerity for the poor.

You know, I can understand the aversion to homosexuality many republicans have. Up until a few years ago, well actually like a decade, I considered it a defect, like a drug addiction or the like. But then I was engaged to do some wiring and HVAC work on a Gay guy's house. He was a city councilman at one point, and also Colin Powell's personal chef. We built him a $30,000 kitchen, I wanted to put cameras in it so he could do TV shows or whatever but he didn't want that.

But there were days when we got our beers and were done working, and he got off of work and we bullshitted. We also talked some business and in fact I came up with a kickass idea he wanted to do and that went great. But later we really were almost done and out on the back enclosed porch we started to bullshit, and the subject came to homosexuality.

Boiling it all down, he said that nobody would choose this. You have problems in school, get forced out of the military, certain companies won't hire you. Nobody would choose this, but when I look at a Woman I do not get turned on. I look at a hot guy I do. What do you want me to do ?

At that point I had nothing to say. What could I say ? Now Trump said at some rally that he would end Gay marriage. Obama said he was going to close Gitmo. I am all for Gay marriage, you can help make the divorce lawyers rich with the rest of us. Put in your fair share fuckers.

Insurance companies caused all this anyway. (and they let them write the ACA, what a trip) When you got healthcare in the past, whether from your employer or not, you are allowed a spouse and children. Well what the fuck is the difference if you instead put your Mother or brother on it
? Seriously, and you are alot less likely to get them pregnant.

Pence isn't a great person but he's not the incompetent fuckwad that Trump is. Avoiding the global catastrophe that Trump is likely to initiate (which seems to include the prospect of nuclear war) is more important than gay rights... I'm sure that most gay people would agree. They probably won't feel much like having sex or being in a loving same-sex partnership if they're dying of radiation sickness.

Well Trump makes Trump sound crazy and the US (and more than a few 1000 US troops that didn't go...are still alive) are obviously much better off not having so reflexively right-wing...jumped into that chaos with 'some other guy's boots on the ground.

Not to mention the fact that the ME is still the military profit center it is meant to be.

Our relations with Russia was as a determined nuclear power bent on taking over all of Europe and Asia...we were told ever 15 min. for 40 years. Just what is that supposed to be now ? GWB certainly didn't change anything. Looked into Putin eyes and saw $$$.

Just what was Obama supposed to do...start a war over the Ukraine ? You ready to go ?

My year is complete.

Now the US is going to build more "nukes".

It's all been worth it after all - the hatred, the division, the final triumph of propaganda over news, the complete removal of checks and balances in the once revered American political system on the basis of the narrowest popular victory.

I was worried for a moment there but I truly believe that the power of Christmas and the spirit of cooperation that the US has shown the world over the last four years in its domestic politics might just win the day. From chaos, the serenity and grace of the American people, helped by the goodwill of the festive period, will shine through and something wonderful will happen.

I can't help but feel more optimistic now that I know that it's not just Tweets and empty rhetoric - it's nuclear warheads too!

No chance of an itchy Twitter finger becoming an itchy trigger finger, is there?

All the best for Christmas and the New Year. Who knows what fucking lunacy it will bring?

Did Putin insult Trump's hair? Sleep with one of his ex-wives? Even if this trillion dollar nuclear escalation thing starts off friendly, there is no telling where it could go if those two have a falling out-- look at what happened between the Bush family and al Qaeda.

I get that you're partisan as hell and wow, congrats, your side won and that means you're a superstar... but you need to actually think about what you're saying. I really don't think you are.

There is a difference between being in conflict with Russia and China and re-igniting the threat of full-scale nuclear war. They aren't practical weapons.

In what way have nukes kept us safe, safe from what? Nutsuckers? W? Iraq? Gitmo? Uh, we can blow up the world with our nukes how many times? Do we need more than one?

I keep imagining scenarios where Trump takes too much meth, starts raving about a cabal of Islamic Mexican Feminists on Twitter... and after 5 minutes of incoherent babbling decides the best course of action would be to nuke Iran before it's too late.

At that point, Pence will have a special pink telephone where he can call one of the taxpayer-funded hookers, and as soon as she shows up Trump can grab away and within moments he'll forget what he was so upset about.

Unfortunately virtually every post so far has been proclamations of trying to stop anything Trump wants to do and reviving the slander of Reagan that he wanted to blow up the world and was so stupid that he would start WWIII the first time someone looked cross eyed at him. Fortunately the worst comes from Canadians so they can't do as much damage as Americans could.
Personally I don't think Trump will be that great (I voted more against Hillary than for him) but at least with him we have a chance of a decent president.
We can at least try. I detest Obama (purely based on his policies) but hoped it would work out for the country, never wanted him to die after getting rid of Biden. How about we give him a chance?

I wish to respect the wishes of the OP and keep this non-political. However, even the thread title suggests an opening for the typical right/left debate. Still, I am going to try to add without falling into that chasm:

The truth is: I was never a supporter of the direction I believe we're going to be traveling for the next four years, but for personal reasons, I feel a lot more hope today than I would be feeling had things gone the other way.
