quote:
ORIGINAL: Nnanji I've personally never met a liberal that paid any attention to conservative philosophy. I'm not denying there may be some. On the other hand, with the way news media operates now a days, conservative are always aware of liberal pap. Is conservative 'philosophy' really so complicated to grasp? quote:
ORIGINAL: Nnanji Who was it that said, "if you're not a liberal at 25 you have no heart, but if you're not a conservative at 35 you have no brain." Another self-congratulating conservative. I keep hearing people say it was Winston Churchill. quote:
ORIGINAL: Nnanji It's liberal philosophy to want a big government nanny state. Now that liberals are beginning to fear a big government, what would you say their next logical step would be. The logic you're operating under here is like saying that because the Allies fought the Nazis in WWII, all Allied countries were anti-big-government just because the Axis powers had big governments. You can have 2 similar-sized governments with different ideological beliefs, with different policies... sort of like you can have North Korea or you can have Denmark. If you can't grasp this and don't understand why you're using a false dichotomy, then there is no point in continuing to discuss this with you. So MY next logical step would be to tell you AGAIN that you're making a huge leap by saying that fearing a Trump government is the same thing as fearing a big government. It's not about the size or scope of the government, it's about the POLICIES... but in Trump's case, so far it's about his fucked up personality, impulsiveness, vindictiveness and general shittiness as a person, and how that's going to translate into his leadership style. He's putting people on edge by acting like a 12 year old with ADHD on Twitter, at his rallies and in interviews... it's like watching a meth addict in a china store. quote:
ORIGINAL: Nnanji I'm sure all your liberal friends cheered that idiot Harry Reid using the nuclear option. I wonder how your liberal friends are going to feel now when it's used against them? Perhaps, they'll go back to wanting what the founders originally established? The Senate difficult to get hasty measures through. I'm sure your liberal friends all loved when Obama had both houses of congress and didn't need, or want, to talk to Republicans. I wonder how they'll feel now? I'm sure all of your liberal friends applauded Obama's overreach using his pen and his phone to bypass the congress. I wonder how they'll feel when Trump wipes that all away with his own? Do you think all of your liberal friends now think I was wrong when the liberal congress and President ignored half the population? Obviously people prefer it when the government acts according to their own beliefs... but ending up with a President Trump is one of the risks associated with democracy. The only way to get rid of that risk is to get rid of democracy at the right moment (which isn't going to happen). I can't speak for everyone, but anyone with firm beliefs isn't going to suddenly abandon their belief in national public services, unified global action on climate change or social welfare just because Trump won the election. You can't have unified global action on climate change without a large central government. You can't have universal public health care, strategic wealth redistribution, universal human rights, social equality, etc. You can't have any of these things under President Pieceofshit either, but you're not going to get them by turning your back on the entire notion of government. BTW, the Green Party believes you can have decentralized power AND leftist values. They're not conservatives, no matter how much you want to believe that your 'side' is the only group that actually wants that. I doubt you've ever really looked into it, though... you seem pretty wrapped up in your false dichotomy.
