ORIGINAL: KenDckey A personal peeve of mine is civil forefiture. I personally never been bitten by it, nor know anyone that has. But here is a solution to this eminse issue. Take everything from everyone that makes over $50K (or some other number) a year. Take their bank accounts, their homes, their furniture, their jewelry, their investments, take it all. Sell it on e-bay because their income is tied to some illegal transaction someplace. You test enough of their dollars and I am sure you can find drug residue on it, or the company that they work for violated some law someplace, even if it a technical violation of OSHA or something. Take the proceeds and pay off the debt and pad the tresurey with the funds left over. Sounds extreme, and in fact it is, but consider this. You aren't charging the ndividual. The govt pays off its debt and has a black mark under its bottom line for a change. It will end the pay disparity of tthe country. And will make it fair for all. How would massive civil forfeiture solve the issue of civil forfeiture?!? I learned a long time ago in the Army when the base commander passed a stupid regulation thatt it didn't last long. quote:

Do you think $50,000 THESE days is a lot of money? Let's take EVERYONE'S assets that makes over $5,000 a year! Let's take YOUR assets first. weeeeeeeeeeeeee Yes More than I make by about $15,000. Please note I did specify that you could pick your own number. For Clarification: The govt can take your money and property because it is suspected of a crime. To get it back you must prove that your money or property is innocent. That is what civil forefiture is. It was created to fight drug dealers mostly but has gone way beyond that since. Since I believe tat most folding money has drug residue on it in minute traces, the money is tained and involved in the drug trade. Since you spend your money on stuff (not otherwise specified) your money is tied to your other assets. The more you spend the greater the crime because the money passed thru your hands on the way to whomever you gave it to for wahtever purpose. Since to get your moeny back your responsibility is to prove your money is innocent you have to hire a lawyer go to court and sue the govt. This entire time you were not connected to a crime, arrested, convicted, etc. Just your money/property. Since the arbityrary number establishes a level of crime, you know sorta like the difference between a felonyy and misdemeanor, then the govt can take your property, wait the apprpopriate amount of time to use/sell it and pay off the debt and/or purchase M109's and M1A1's for the police.
